Well, Here We Go Again with the Algae

You are in Florida and there are many having the same problem.. you get lots of rain and your FC and CYA can get diluted fast and the next thing you know your CYA is 50 and FC is at 5.. The Algae gets a foothold in that same spot and then its on... This is what I have been telling other from...

    Early stages Algae bloom

I have a SWG and keep my FC at 7 to 8 at all times and my CYA is at 80... With your CYA at 60 it can be harder on your SWG/FC and the FC can dip lower.. I would bring your CYA to 80 and keep FC at 7 to 8 and you should be great... I had the same exact thing happen 2 times with my pool, both...

    Early stages Algae bloom

FC just dipped down and a slight bloom started.. Who knows exactly what or how but you saw it and went straight to SLAM and that is all that matters :)

Bought house with a swamp pool

Only take CYA to 3o for now... Keep skimming as much as you can with a net.. Other than that keep doing what you are doing and it will get there.. Testing and adding every 2 hours will go faster.. Also backwash when the filter hits 20% higher pressure from the backwash, this will make it...

Why are recommended chlorine levels so low when you use pucks/tablets?

SWG is the way to go.. If my SWG died today another one would be on order tonight.. Actually mine did die 2 years ago and it was replaced that day... If you or your friend wants a pool that is easy to take care of then I would really push a SWG... :)

Still struggling with Black algae, Chlorine Dioxide?

It does work great and just by chance I thought of it one day... some 10% or 12.5% in a sprayer should get after it great.. :)

    Any ideas??

Did you add abalone shells into your plaster mix? If so that is probably what it is.. Did you just have the plaster done? Here is a thread that will make you not love your plaster company at all if it is abalone shells...

Problem with algae growing behind pool lights

It is due to lack of circulation.. You could spray them once a week or every 2 weeks with liquid chlorine in 10% or 12.5%.. Just use a pressure spray bottle.. :) Something like this will work perfect.. https://smile.amazon.com/Chapin-International-20075-Disinfectant-Translucent/dp/B00295QD96

Pool Pump Settings(schedule) to Prevent Algae

You should be able to set the exact RPM and how much time you want it to run... I am not familiar with setting the VF pump though.. :) On page 9 and 10 it shows how to set the rpm you want :)...

Pool Pump Settings(schedule) to Prevent Algae

Welcome to TFP :) Water turnover and pump times have nothing to do with Algae... The reason you have algae is your pool guy is not taking care of your pool and really when it comes down to it they have no way to do it right.. You probably have a high CYA and that is why you have algae.. I...

Small amount of algae constantly growing on walls

every time your FC drops to 2 algae can start growing... For your area I would do a couple things.. 1. kick CYA to 40 at least.. 2. never ever ever let FC get to the minimum.. min is a cliff, you do not want to drive off a cliff, you really do not want to be near a cliff... keep the lowest...

Little Spots of Green - Algae, Seaweed(!), or What?

Welcome to TFP :) The green is probably some kind of algae as there are many kinds and some are tougher than others.. You can take your pool to SLAM level but you need a DPD test kit to do a It sounds like you have been very lucky as SWG are easy and it keeps your pool out of trouble.. You...

Constant Algae Problems Despite High Chlorine Levels

Perfect :) So now you are close to a Take your FC to 12 and then test every 2 hours... adding chlorine back to 12 FC.. the green will go away.. In your fist post you said you are testing about every 2 days, that is probably why this is happening.. Once you FC drops below the minimum...

Constant Algae Problems Despite High Chlorine Levels

Great job on having the K-2006 test kit... You should be testing daily, same time and adding at the same time daily.. we have you and you can do this.. I have been following TFP for 8 years and have never had a green pool so I know it can be done... Please post your numbers from your K-2006...

New Pool - lots of problems

Your main problem with the skimmers is the main drain.. They did not install a Jandy Valve on it so you can not close the main drain off or slow it down.. Have them install a Jandy valve on the main drain and that will give WAY more suction to the skimmers.. :)

Cloudy water and brown/green sediment. Please advise.

Loss of 3 FC something is still growing in the water, keep the SLAM going... :)

Cloudy water and brown/green sediment. Please advise.

You can swim as long as the FC is at or below SLAM level for your CYA and you can see the bottom of the pool. We swam in 31 FC water and no one even knew :)

You do not know what your CYA is at.. Without knowing CYA you do not know what to have your FC at.. How much liquid chlorine are you adding daily? Are you taking FC to 6 daily?

    Addendum to non recommended products?

I have an Intex pool with all in ground equipment including the SWG.. I have all my equipment and pool bonded just like an in ground pool.. @jseyfert3 my SJ45 cell lasted 8 years and really still has some life in it.. :)

High CYA somehow!? Is it ok?

Go to lowes and get muriatic acid, you do not want to use PH down/dry acid with a SWG, it is bad for them... :)

Cloudy water and brown/green sediment. Please advise.

Welcome to TFP :) Great to have you, Marty has you going.. Great job on getting a TF100, drop that PH and get to SLAMing.. I tend to check at 2 hours and add liquid chlorine as much as I can.. the more you raise the faster the SLAM goes..

    Pool Store SLAM Process

They throw weekly shock treatment with granular dichlor that also raises CYA and then when you CYA is above 100 and the pool turns green they tell you to drain the pool half way and start over... they are so nice, aren't they :)

Will mustard algae die if I put Intex pool away for winter?

Welcome to TFP :) With such a small pool you probably should run it like a seasonal pool.. When you dump the water clean it with liquid chlorine and scrub the parts to kill everything.. then refill :) https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/guide-for-seasonal-temporary-pools/
