    Green pool despite chemicals

For future reference, I would not use anything unless there was a % on the bottle since the pool math calculator takes the % into consideration. If you think you are using 6% and the bleach is actually 2%, you'll never do the SLAM correctly. And considering I just went through a 69 gallon...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Never got around to deep cleaning the filter since it's been raining on/off the last week. It's something I plan on doing at some point. Once I do, I'll report back. I'm still confused as to what caused this mess and what exactly ate 69 jugs of bleach. Whatever caused that cloudiness appears...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

This is truly bizarre... So the FC drops from 21 to 11 overnight with the auto cover closed. I decided to not add bleach. It's been drizzling/raining all morning since my reading at 7:30am. Rain finally stopped so I opened the pool to just see where I'm at and here comes the bizarre...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Well...just when I thought it was getting better 8:30pm....21 7:30am...11 I'm really at a loss as to what is going on. Deep clean of the filter is next buy my wife is going to shot me when she sees me cutting the pipes (all pvc connections and no unions). It's raining so not sure when this...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

The saga continues, but I'm feeling a little better... 7:15am...20.5...added 1 jug 2:30pm...18...added 1.5 jugs How much FC do I lose to the sun? Considering the pool has been open since this morning with full sun I feel as if I'm not losing as much to whatever is in the pool. I did read...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Got in the pool last night..... The 2 wall drains look fine and didn't noticing anything. Unscrewed the wall skimmer plate and I did notice some gunk/build-up behind it and cleaned it up. Inspected underneath the cover and it looked fine. I did notice underneath the cover's metal tube there...

No clorox...just plain regular. Right now I’m using Valley View 8.25% from Farm and Fleet.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Considering it looks like there is no end in sight, would it make sense to just bump the FC up to a much higher number (40) so that I'm above SLAM level for a longer period of time and there is a higher concentration of FC?

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

This is really baffling. There has be an enormous amount of algae growth somewhere to eat that much bleach and still be hungry. I've lost around 230 FC in 5 days.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

I'll look at the lights again tonight, but I don't think they are the kind I can remove from the wall. I have PAL-2T4 lights and the manual says to drain below light to remove.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

This is getting stupid now. Latest reading is 19. I added nothing since the last reading and I loss 4.5 FC in 1 3/4 hours.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

    1. We’re using the numbers on the side and the dot currently disappears when at 60. For FC, we take the number of drops and divide by 2 since each drop is 0.5. 2. We have not done a deep clean of the sand and was something I’ve thought of, but that would need to wait until the weekend. It has...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Just tested and I'm at 23.5....pool has been open and it's sunny out. I added 3 jugs of bleach 5 hours ago which added roughly 12.75 of FC. My rough calculation shows that I'm losing just over 1 unit of FC every hour and it shows no signs of slowing down. At this point, I might as well dump a...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

64 jugs and still going. This is just plain nuts. The water is crystal clear and I didn't see any signs of algae anywhere. Here are the latest readings... 8/28...9:00pm...25...added nothing 8/29...7:30am...14.5...added 3 jugs of 8.25 and 1 jug of 6 8/29...12:30pm...26...added 1 jug of 8.25...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

I'll be checking everything tonight for sure. Unfortunately, I can't find the higher percentage liquid chlorine around me. Our stores have already pulled pool supplies. I'd have to drain the pool a couple feet to remove lights so let's hope that is not the problem. I was able to locate 8.25%...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

I was definitely hoping not to lose that much overnight. I'll have to check those spots tonight when I get home...my wife is running the tests and adding bleach during the day. Crazy to see a crystal clear pool and continue to lose so much FC.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Well...there is some FC monster in the pool. Crystal clear water and went from 25 to 14.5 overnight. This is borderline ridiculous...I'm now at 50 jugs with no end in sight.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

For those playing along...the water is practically crystal clear since the anti-skid bottom of the pool is visible. There still something eating the FC though.... Today's FC/CC readings (CYA 70): 8:35am...12.5/1...added 3.5 jugs 11:40am...22.5/0.5...added 1.5 jugs 1:30pm...22.5/0.5....added...

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Thanks for all the help... There is obviously something eating the FC as it dropped from 30 to 12.5 overnight. The water is pretty clear but still not crystal. I'm 41 jugs in. Thank goodness I found some 8.25% bleach yesterday with a date code of 18232 and cheaper than the 6% I was using too.

What a weekend...32 bottles of bleach and still cloudy...Am I doing it right?

Well...things look better. The water is is much clearer now vs this morning. Can actually see the bottom and the drains but still not crystal clear. Readings.... 6pm...PH 7.4, CYA 65, FC 6, CC 1. Turned off SWG and added 5 jugs of 8.25%. 6:20pm...FC 35 and CC 0.5. The readings at...

Thanks for the additional recommendation. Unfortunately, the 10 minute drill will have to wait since I have something I need to attend to this afternoon. I obviously screwed this thing up from the beginning so hopefully I can turn it around. I'll retest my FC/CC/CYA before adding more bleach...

I don't test CYA that regularly (which will obviously change after this) and didn't realize it was so low until I tested it this past weekend. I simply added what the pool calculator told me to and we're back to 70.

Thanks for the feedback... We have an auto cover and keep it closed at night and when not in use. The pool has been open all weekend, except at night. Unfortunately, the bleach around here is 6% which means I using more of it. Every time I test, I add whatever the pool math calculator tells...
