    Massive algae bloom

I wasnt trying to stir the pot and I am aligned with TFP practices. I feel a tactical assault last night would have yielded spectacular results given the data he has provided (new water, low CYA, lingering algae and a plaster surface). His test kit is on the way and the weekend is upon us.

    Massive algae bloom

If it were me I would slam the "you know what" out of the pool right now. Bring it to a very high chlorine level and let the chlorine do its job over night and be done with it. With your low CYA level and it being a non liner pool you can get away with a higher chlorine level without worrying...

    Massive algae bloom

This site really is one of the best out there. Return all the other chlorine products and just use store bought plain unscented bleach. I use Target brand bleach but you can get it from anywhere you like. Target has the best prices in our neck of the woods. As far as how much to get....get...

Algae is not dying....what am I doing wrong

Can you vacuum to waste? That will help get rid of the gunk on the bottom of the pool alot faster. Untill you get rid of the organics at the bottom of the pool you are just spinning your wheels as others have said. That needs to be your number one priority.

    Do not want algae, ever

Mine is 100% NOT black algae, I would bet yours is not black algae. I plan on trying another type of copper remover as my water did test positive for it. Plus since they got worse after the vitamin C application my money is on copper. If the copper remover doesnt help I'll probably call pebble...

    Do not want algae, ever

I have a pebble sheen finish that has a few dark spots as well. The spots got worse when I tried the vitamin C tablets so be carefull if you go that route. There is another poster that had the same results. After the vitamin C tabs made things worse I tried a nice SS brush and pouring MA down a...

    Pool guy and algae

If you have a pool store or anywhere that will test your pool water take it there and get it tested, dont buy anything they tell you to buy. Just post your results here and the good people on this site set you on the right path. Buy a good test kit, stock up on bleach and prepare to do a partial...

Cannot defeat algae and party coming this weekend

If it were me in this situation and things hadn't improved I would pull the trigger and drain to a safe level and get the CYA in check (as long as the testing was done correctly). The weekend is almost here. When I have that many folks headed my way I have a ton of other things to do on top of...

AZ Dust Storm And Now This Monstrocity. HELP!!

This is where you use your vacuum to remove waste from the bottom of your pool. Have you removed all the debris and dirt from the bottom of your pool?

AZ Dust Storm And Now This Monstrocity. HELP!!

If you have time to dedicate to the clearing/shocking process it will work out for you......but if I were in this situation and I had to be sure I was ready by Aug 6th, I would do a partial drain and start fresh using the knowledge you gain by reading pool school.

    I can't shock my pool

Hahaha, You'll never know if you are truely shocking unless you get a good quality test kit. May I suggest the TFTestKit/volt meter...... :-D

Looking for assistance on a green pool

The way I get my main drain to work 100% is to put the diverter in the skimmer with the flap wide open, then hold the skimmer door closed so all the water gets sucked out of the skimmer. When that happens the float in the diverter drops and plugs the skimmer. At that point the main drains are...

    Recovering from Algae

It seems like you've done the impossible so far, keeping the pool clear with out a proper test kit and any filtration at all. In that first pic there looks like a drain cover at the bottom of the pool. Is it plugged? If it is an old drain, not plugged and not getting any circulation it could be...

To drain or not to drain

To drain or not to drain

I'm glad your pool is looking better 8-) As far as SWG's go, I've been looking at the units on Haywards website and then going to Leslies for ballpark cost figures.

To drain or not to drain

I found a place on Grand & 67th ave that would sell me 12.5% in 5 gallon buckets for 10 bucks. It was a back alley kind of deal and kind of a pain. The price was right but the logistics sucked. I dont remember the name of the place. I would think for a pool your size that is never going to be...

To drain or not to drain

I dont think there is any reason you should replace water. My CYA is in the same ballpark as yours and I still go through about half a gallon of 10% a day. Thats keeping a target of 8ppm FC, but at the end of the day its down to about 3ppm. My pool is east to west as well with no shade until...

Green Cloudy Water Need Some Help

Thats a cool looking pool and welcome to the forum. From what I've read on here it can take several days to clear a green pool. Refilling can be costly and high CYA is managable if you have a good test kit and some knowledhe from this site. As far as your filter, do you have a pressure gauge? Is...

    Pool turned cloudy overnight

Is everything working ok as far as the pump and filter are concerned? Returns flowing, gauges reading what they normally do? How long have you owned the pool? Maybe you could switch to bleach for a few days to eliminate the pucks from the equation.

    Pool turned cloudy overnight

How long are you running your pump during the day/night? Maybe you should add a couple hours to the run time.

Opened pool after 3 years of being closed.

I'm just getting started with our first pool so I really know nothing about what you are dealing with but I have to say what a battle! Looks like you are making some good headway now. I hope it all comes together for your kids birthday....goodluck! :goodjob:
