    Chlorine loss

i will when i get home but realize my chlorine use was consistently 6pmm and then one day was 18ppm and after that i see that the water WAS cloudy. if i didnt know the correct cya, i should have constant very high usage, not that the usage tripled from one day to the next. regarding effect on...

    Chlorine loss

oh no! so i think i did it wrong. but it shouldnt make a difference, right? if anything my chlorine was too high, it should still kill the algae. but does anyone know the answer to the normal loss of chlorine rate and 35ppm?

    Chlorine loss

hi, i have a 21k gallon pool, 60 cya and prone to mustard algae. so based on chart i try to keep my chlorine at about 10ppm. my pool was beautiful and crystal clear until one day i noticed tremendous chlorine loss - over the day i had to put in 18pmm of chlorine so it didnt drop below my...

algae even though chlorine did not go below minimum

i better change my signature to include my test kit. its the taylor k-2006 fas dpd. i was testing twice a day every day but then last few days weather on and off was so bad and there were thunderstorms when i was leaving to work or in the evening... so i think i missed some tests. but i tested...

algae even though chlorine did not go below minimum

that might be it. i only brush once a week maximum. i thought one time per week was the recommended. thank you.

algae even though chlorine did not go below minimum

If chlorine never dips below the recommended minimum (and is even much more than that) is it possible to get algae? because i got significant yellow streaking at the bottom of my pool and i brushed up clouds of yellow this morning and tested 1 CC, but i'm surprised because my chlorine levels...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

Thanks for all the input. i hope to try liquid chlorine next season. please let me know how the pool looks when you open it. when it says to have balanced water, i was not thinking of FC that was too high - i thought it meant proper TA, PH and FC at least target, no CC.

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

Thank you for this thorough review. Even after reading the SLAM article, all this discussion has really helped me understand all the points better. What was totally new to me was the need to test for CH and a better understanding of FC needed to SLAM, which i understood as a minimum and i...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

The good news is that I vacuumed Friday afternoon and brushed. i didn't notice any yellow clouding up when i brushed, only a bit of brown/grey. So i am cautiously optimistic that i am done...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

wow! thanks for all the info - which i will have to go through in more detail. but i want to very briefly respond to your ask about progress in water clarity etc. actually my water is crystal clear and i notice nothing on the bottom visually right now. Only when i brush do i see a little bit...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

i appreciate the suggestion, but its not sounding right to me. i don't see anything on any other surfaces and i think i do recognize this as algae.

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

ok, i understand the risk of chlorine that is too high. but please explain - if normal target chlorine rates DOES kill algae then why did i have algae growing and spreading with chlorine levels waaay above target but below SLAM levels? and in response to my asking why i was not getting rid of...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

also, are you indeed saying that i can adjust chlorine at 7am to SLAM level - not higher - and then leave during the day and let the chlorine drift below the recommended slam level? this will not allow the chlorine to thrive and regrow? what is recommended when you are leaving home for many...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

i am happy to stand corrected. i did not realize AT ALL that going above the target by putting in whole bags of shock when i needed a chlorine addition was different than SLAM instructions. Its a new idea to me to measure my chlorine by the oz etc before adding and leaving open unused bags...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

because i thought that target number is the number at which the algae can't survive. I initially started this thread saying that although my chlorine is kept very high, i still seem to have algae... and i thought everyone was telling me that until i CONSISTENTLY kept the chlorine high enough...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

ok, so what would be the issue if you could not test the FC every 3 hrs and therefore made sure it was a bit over the target so that you knew it would not fall BELOW target SLAM amount.

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

see this thread: What is the downside to holding FC a few ppm over target based on CYA level? 18000 IG, SWG, 1/2 HP Tri Star + Solar PV direct DC Lorentz pump, Sand filtrt 20000 gallon, Vinyl liner IG, SWG, Sand Filter, Hayward 1/2HP + Lorentz direct solar PV pump Like Quote Reply Report...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

    1) i want my FC to be higher than recommended for 70cya in case my CYA is a bit higher (up to 80cya). Its hard to determine the exact CYA 2) i cannot have the FC slip BELOW the 28-31 recommended and because i am at work all day and the chlorine gets used up while i am out, i want to make sure...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

hey! why didn't i see that there were more responses to my posts? i am using taylor kit 2006 (?) not the K-100 (?) I have not tested the calcium b/c i thought that was not necessary for a vinly pool Other test results this week offhand were about FC 30+ CC .02 PH 7.2 CYA 70 and i'm not sure...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

also, can you clarify? i thought you said that in your 2 wk battle, every few days you had the algae again. but this post makes it sound like you finally beat the algae. so after the two weeks have you determined that you are INDEED algae free?

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

i see that your mustard algae description IS different than what i have. "as a layer of silt" and "nickel sized spots" sounds different that the layer of yellowish streaking on bottom or slope of pool that i see. i sure so after years of thinking i had mustard algae (because a tech told me so...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

is it really mustard algae? i thought mine was for years... but just this season i started doubting it. someone on this forum said that if its puffing up & clouding into the water when brushed its just regular algae. all i know is that i had a crystal clean pool for years and years with no...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

why are you saying its not a "one time dose". if i should be maintaining chlorine levels of 28 for example, and i raise it to 40, for example, just so i don't have to be busy adjusting my chlorine 3 times a day, and it stay above the 28 mark for consecutive days, why won't that do the same...
