Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

all sounds good. I'll follow this. I'll work on increasing CYA, running higher FC, testing more frequently... Thx :)

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

ha Gene. we were thinking the same at the same time. Originally Dave was going to post but then he thought it'd be helpful for me to do it to grind it into my stubborn little head. well, he didn't say it that way. he was much nicer like y'alls :)

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

I'm done my SLAM and getting a new Hayward panel. Here were some of my awsome take aways from Dave. Dave, pls correct me if I'm wrong.: 1. I was overtesting my CCs. CC's need to be .5 or less just ONCE during a SLAM. That test result will vary. I would've kept going longer with my SLAM if...

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

thx. Do you mean I need to shake the bottle prior to adding it to the mixing bottle? If so, I've never done that and missed that so that's good to know. today's test was up to 60 CYA so I'll wait to add anymore stabilizer until I speak with Dave. I think most of the confusion was from me not...

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

that's helpful, thx. not even a year out of your TF kit? That's not good. I wonder why a whole kit went bad before a year or are you just talking about the reagant to measure cya? Has that happened before

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

Gene, I'll retest the CH. I drained the pool last year and then had CH of 275. 5 days ago I got CH 650. That's something else I can't remember. was it by the time it hits CH 800 the pool is really hard to take care of? I looked at yours and you must've just refilled? I also looked at...

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

Gene, thx for all of that. most of it I know by now but some of it is new or a good reminder. It was especially helpful to know I didn't have to increase my CYA past 30 if I'm doing a SLAM. I wondered if I should just try to start SLAM with how the CYA was but I remembered always having to get...

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

I think the part that has gone bad on my prologic, then warranty, then bad again on the new warrantied motherboard is call the relay. pool tech said the new boards don't have the relay which always caused people probs in the heat

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

Gene, thx for the warm welcome. I thought you were gonna "yell" at me o_O . I was sure I'd get through this "start up" without problems this time. I'm sure I've been told before that the SWG pool needs chlorine in the winter but I didn't remember that. I guess I thought I could time the...

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

thx so much for your awsome reply. that helps a lot and so then it makes sense. I didn't think I'd have to add more stabilizer until I empty the pool. I was also wondering if it's measured in ppms. So, I'm back to not trusting the pool store's measurements, so that's good. even the pool...

Did I add too much stabilizer? How could CYA drop more than half in a year?

Hi. Does it seem possible to lose 45 CYA in a year? I only recorded backwashing my pool twice in a year, so that was likely (and hopefully) wrong. Let's say I backwashed 5 times, though. I still wouldn't loose more than half of the CYA if I'm just emptying an inch or 2 of h20 out of the pool...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

Thanks everyone for everything and yes, I'm using a speedstir. I think I've mostly got it going good enough for now. My engine in my Subaru fried and that's taking precedent. :( I'm just keeping my FC around 9-10 and watching it daily or skipping no more than a day at a time. I think...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

thx everyone! I'll look at all of that. Does it matter re times of day to leave filter run and how long?

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

Good point and good to know it's pretty instantaneious for you. I'll have to double check. I know I have "10 ml" circled on my instructions as I must've made that mistake before. I can't recall what I did this time. thx!

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

I had it in my head above zero and ideally 1-3. I also realize I skim a lot and didn't read all the directions well of the CYA/Chlorine chart and never realized until you told me your levels that I had to click on SWG to get the SWG chart. Very helpful! so, if some kids come over and use the...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

Proavia, thx for all the good info! I'm on it! Now, back to the intent of my post, in my original post/FC#s, can anyone let me know where they think I got algae? As far as I followed the SLAM process to the T last time and passed an OCLT. With that, could it be I didn't get rid of the algae...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

I was curious about why SWG is recommended to have higher CYA. That explains that, which makes me feel even worse about having to SLAM twice in a month with SWG! I was trying to save on my salt cell. oh well. thx

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

it didn't permanently switch from yellow/white which his why I was worried about the higher number. it turned for a sec, but for the whole liquid to turn an obvious different color it was 4600. After 4600 I don't think the color would go any darker, though and I've had it tested by guy who...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

Hi Gene, I'm surprised u have the patience to reply to me after all of these years. :) I didn't know I was sharing my poolmath. I use the old one. I can't remember what it was about the new one but I didn't like it. I think it was that you had to check TA everyx or more things than I want...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

interesting. so is this showing it's best to be between 70 and 90 for a SLAM with SWG?

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

Bperry, brand new salt cell (March). I'll say I wasn't doing the greatest of testing at the time until first algae outbreak that I mentioned. Salt cell was on 30. We had a generic jacuzzi brand salt cell for a while and a panel that had burnt out. worst idea to get a cheap jacuzzi salt...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

Sunnydaze,, thx. the chart you sent me said anything 70 and above or 20 and below is out of range. This link SLAM - Shock Level and Maintain says SLAMing is best with CYA around 30 or 40, impractical around 80 and empty water at 90. This link, though ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry, says SWG...

how quickly will FC decrease after a SLAM and shouldn't you keep the CYA on lower end to not have to use as much chlorine?

On 6-30 spotted a few "black" spots at the bottom of our salt pool. After $200 worth of chlorine and an overnight with only .5 loss of FC and I threw in another gallon after that for good measure, I thought I completed a successful SLAM on 7-5. I felt the FC levels were going down so quickly but...

Why choose TF-100 or Taylor K2006? And, preview of the new TF-Pro and TF-Pro SALT

Hi Gene! Long time no talk. Well said, refill kit and support a small biz and if as it seems TF-100 is connected to TFP (still not clear on that), that would be nice to support them... Admin, you've got em' all beat on the nice looking test kit! You're getting unsolicited advice after all...
