    A truly trouble free season

9th season. Thankful to discover TFP early on! This season after the opening chems: 40lb salt, 3lb CYA and less than 1 gal muriatic acid. That's it! Crystal clear all season! Just renewed my Gold membership as an appreciation for the knowledge I gained here. Closing on Friday, see you next season!

Accidentally Lowered My Water Too Far

Been there, done that. Thankfully the pump only ran a few hours with no water before I caught it. Called my PB and he said welcome to the club and no worries the pump is forgiving.

    TF-100 Chlorine Cylinder Losing Markings?

The point I was trying to make about the syringe is you use the markings on the syringe to measure. It's more precise. And inexpensive. Then you are not (in my case) squinting to see some notch on the vial or worrying about over shooting the mark.

    TF-100 Chlorine Cylinder Losing Markings?

Not sure if mentioned before, but no need for markings on the vial. Get a $3 60ml veterinary syringe.

Why choose TF-100 or Taylor K2006? And, preview of the new TF-Pro and TF-Pro SALT

the 2006C has CYA tester. It's the smaller tube (in the picture above) on the pH tester. The plastic bottle front and center is where you mix the R 0013.

Am I using too much chlorine?

It's like a pet, you need to feed it daily. Like Marty said, very average and could go up to 56 oz (4ppm) on high UV days.

    Cya level

More like CYA goes down slowly as you replace water due to evaporation and as you drain off excess water from heavy rains. Or in our case when you replace water from Golden Retrievers carrying it out like giant sponges

Help! Our pool water is green.

Straight from the SLAM process link: Check and adjust the PH to between 7.2 and 7.5. The PH test isn’t reliable during SLAMing so make sure to take care of this before you start. The best solution to this is simply shut off the SWG, Liquidator, injection pump, etc. and use liquid chlorine...

    Muriatic Acid Question

I've used it and just pour from the measuring cup directly into the pool (vinyl) with no issues. Be aware it's not 31% so you will need to consider that. I think I took the poolmath recommended oz for 31% X 1.5 @JoyfulNoise does that make sense? How much Hydrochloric acid is in Klean Strip®...

    Green Dog

Reminds me of a story my (former, passed :() neighbor told me. And the one that convinced me we needed a pool after he invited us to swim our dogs one weekend. He was a big guy, long hair, big beard - biker looking dude. In retirement took a job as a bailiff in the county courthouse. On Monday...

    Testing inconsistencies

SpeedStir should be on the list of must haves when recommending buying a test kit. I nearly abandoned self testing without one.

    Almost there....I think

Correct your target is 5. I would keep it at 7. I view target as my minimum.

    What is your daily dosage?

5 years is generous. When I worked for a large foundry they pushed for 18 to 24 months roi for cost reduction projects. Factor in a "cost" for weekly trips to buy and transport liquid chlorine and daily effort to dose the pool. vs set it and (mostly) forget it SWG.

    How much muriatic is reasonable?

I looked at Pool Math effects of adding - for your size pool, I'm seeing a drop of only .2 pH adding 8 oz of 31% MA. Do you test about an hour after adding? Try getting it down to 7.6 then it might settle in at 7.8 as salt water pools tend to do.

TF100 Results are in! Survey says.......

Definitely in the right direction! I would get the pH down in the 7s. Salt pools seem to like 7.8. Bump it back to 7.6. Wouldn't worry about TA if the pH is stable.

    OCD Testing?

I used to nearly every day but now it seems about every 3 days or after a major swim event.

Kit vs Leslies and my reasonably new pool - yes I need help.

Believe your test kit. Are you using a SpeedStir? That helps tremendously with testing consistency. I was all over the map without it. Re CH, I have no experience dealing with that. I'm sure one of the TFP Ph.Ds will chime in! But I would put some liquid chlorine in there

Pool Chemicals and the Pool Store

228? That would raise it 74ppm!! I calculate 60oz of dry stabilizer to raise CYA 20 ppm in a 23K gal pool. @Richard320 that sound about right? Nevermind LOL
  25. L

    Salt water chemical levels

TA is a bit high but if pH is stable I would leave it. Maybe some one could chime in here on that. TFP guidelines for salt water pools recommend to keep FC between 4 and 6. I shoot for 6. Also pH will settle in between 7.8 and 8 don't waste muriatic acid to go lower than that.
  26. L

    Salt water chemical levels

How are you testing? If you are using one of the recommended test kits, CYA you round up, so 70 which is good for a salt water pool. I would put some liquid chlorine in there to get up to 5 or 6 then let the SWCG maintain.
