    FC loss in hot pool

my auto cover doesn’t completely block all light, my pool is also covered all the time we’re not using it, yet I still managed to get algae last year when the temperature and pool usage went up, and I didn’t adjust the SWG quickly enough to compensate for increased chlorine usage. this year I...

Annual Complete Refill set for TF-100 on sale through March 1-21, 2021

I was looking at ordering this yesterday, along with a few other items that brought the total above $100, which I thought would trigger free shipping within the US. However, it still quoted me $12 for shipping. I replied to the email about the offer I got, but so far no response, so I thought...

    Natural marble & calcium noodles

Got the TF100 kit out and redid the test, still see purple before eventually it turns blue. Redid it again and recorded a video It eventually turns blue after 26 drops, but it was purple from around 19-20 drops. This was a 10ml sample so the 6-7 drops corespondents to a 150-175 range, or...

    Natural marble & calcium noodles

It is possible, but I find it surprising if that is the case. The concrete shell is cast in one piece with a water proofing mixed in the concrete (https://www.penetron.com.cy/index.php/el/pds/542-penetron-admix-pds-eng/file), it was then treated with a water proofing layer before the marble...

    Natural marble & calcium noodles

We completed construction of our pool last summer, this weekend we swam for the first time this year. I noticed some calcium noodles around the marble steps, one large one I crushed with my fingers - it was very white rock like, some larger pieces, but also lots of fine dust that I could not...

White Flakes out of return jets

To avoid adding too much CYA, I suggest adding half of the suggested amount, wait for it to fully dissolve and the retest the next day. You will like still need to add more, so repeat adding half of what PoolMath suggests, after a few times you should be close to the target

Need Help, Friends to Swim Today

I don’t have experience with other robots, but I’m very happy with our Dolphin s300i. I believe all the s series are essentially the same, I got the s300i as we got a good deal on that particular model.

    Calcium deposits?

Not a bad idea with a camera to check on things. I have a spare Ethernet cable there too, so it is relatively easy to do. However the pump basket is practically always clean - the pool has a cover that is closed except when we're in the pool, so very little end up in the skimmer baskets and...

    Calcium deposits?

If need be, I can screw the deck cover shut. It becomes a trade off of security vs. convenience. I'm planning on adding a remote switch to manually turn on the pump, so I can turn it on when adding chemicals without needing to enter this room. At that point I'd only need to enter to backwash...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks Chris. Message received loud and clear, I really appreciate the help and guidance received here. I spoke with the pool company, they will take back any unused sulphuric acid, so I don’t have to find alternative disposal methods. Probably tomorrow I’ll remove the sulphuric acid tank...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks for the confirmation, I'll get the sulphuric acid out of there ASAP. I'll need to find a safe storage / disposal for it, I don't want it inside the house or in our basement, nor do I feel safe storing it out in the open. This thread started with me finding out that the sulphuric acid...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks for the advice, and you're right I better get the acid out of there ASAP. Once the acid is removed, there is no hazardous materials left in the there, and I can probably get away with slightly less rigorous precautions. But until the acid is out and I've drained all the existing pipes...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks a lot Chris, it confirms that I'm better off not using the pH pump for HCL. Having the rest of the equipment, pool pump, filter and SWG in the equipment room should be fine. Do you know having the sulphuric acid in there would be considered a hazard ?

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks for the input guys, some replies inline. There is a fan, a small 100mm one through the vent pipe with return though another 100mm vent pipe. The fan was added to prevent extreme humidity, and it is currently on humidity control - but I can easily change it to run 24/7, I can also look...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks for checking, yes I think diluting is the safest option - and the more I've looked into it, the less I'm worried about it. I went and bought long chemical resistant gloves, protective eye goggles and a face mask. I'm more worried about the potential issues of fumes from the HCL in the...

    Calcium deposits?

Also for polypropylene this link says the below, so again even a 20% solution isn't rated as A, so again I'm thinking a 10% solution would be safer. Hydrochloric Acid 100% C-Fair Hydrochloric Acid 20% B2-Good Hydrochloric Acid 37% C-Fair Ratings: Chemical Effect A = Excellent. B =...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks for the interest, the manual for the Etatron B3-V peristaltic pump says (direct link, with the english manual starting at page 9) 2.3 Materials in contact with the additive Hose: Norprene Nipples: Polypropylene Filter: Polypropylene Suction tube: PVC Discharge tube...

    Calcium deposits?

I got it as part of a kit, and in this particular application there is no way to say "run acid dose at X percent, or for N minutes a day". But yes, I agree that you still have to test the water and make any corrections. So far the pH probe has been reliable, my Taylors K2006 testkit...

    Calcium deposits?

I’ve been thinking how to contain acid vapours, what if I use two containers like Where the acid vapours are trapped in the cavity above the liquid acid in one container and water mixed with a base in the other. I don’t have issues with vacuum when acid is removed by the acid pump as it can...

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks, yes I did know that must always add the chemical to water, not the other way around. I'm still a bit nervous about diluting it myself, looking at a safety data sheet it looks kind of scary. Amongst other things, it says only use in well ventilated areas. My pool equipment is located in...

    Calcium deposits?

So you would not be worried about having to dilute a 32% HCI to 10-15% assuming proper protection is used ?

    Calcium deposits?

I'm having issues finding hydrochloric acid in a suitable low concentration, I can get it in 32% concentration that likely will be too strong for my peristaltic pump. The pool companies I've checked here, all use liquid sulfuric acid or dry sodium bisulfate, that essentially is sulfuric acid as...

    Calcium deposits?

It will be a couple of days before I can get some muriatic acid, do you think I’m better off turning off the automatic acid dispenser and let the pH value creep up? Maybe set the target at 7.8 instead of 7.3 so it will not dispense any acid unless the pH goes up a lot?

    Calcium deposits?

Thanks a lot! I’m not surprised this pool installer messed up in yet another way ... have had a series of issues with them. I’ll go looking for some muriatic acid to use instead. How about the TA value and the impact on CSI? Is it a good idea to lower TA and raise pH keeping CSI slightly negative?

    Calcium deposits?

I’m having issues with what I think is calcium deposits, they are found on the bottom of the pool below the returns and on one of the steps. See photo After running the dolphin robot it’s filter was full of what I think is calcium deposits The pool is a 2 month old beadcrete in-ground pool...
