Also remember with an auto cover if you test for FC right after you open it many times your CC can be high because the CC is trapped under the cover. If you leave the cover off for an hour or so and test again your CC will return to normal.

Chlorine loss with auto covers can be a bit tricky. What I found with mine is that if I close the cover soon after the swimmers get out I will go through more chlorine because the chlorine is still working on the organics left behind by the swimmers. So the chlorine loss may be 2ppm overnight...

I agree. If the PH stays steady I wouldn’t worry about it. If the PH rises with the high TA (as it should) adding acid to bring the PH down will eventually lower your TA.

Thanks for all of the help. I did complete the calibration. The 7.0 solution read 6.86 and the smiley face did appear and stay there and I believe the PH calibration read 6.98 at the end. When I hit the button to end the calibration I did not get an error message. I will do the calibration again...

Thanks for the hints. I thought I calibrated it correctly but will do it again. One thing that did confuse me a bit is that when I put it in the 7.0 solution to calibrate, the solution reads 6.86. Is that correct or is the solution bad? When I put it in the 4.0 solution it reads 4.0.

I would SLAM too. I have a SWG and my pool water looks much better when I keep the FC in the 7-8 range. Sometimes when you flirt with the minimums the pool can pick something up especially after a heavy rain that can drop a lot of organics in the pool.

I use the sample sizer. Easy to use and I feel it just adds a little more consistency to the tests.

I added 20 pounds of Calcium Chloride by spreading it in the deep end of the pool in front of the return. Salt cell still working and didn't have any trouble with it dissolving. I did have to brush it around a bit. Guess I was just lucky.

Pool math says to add 32 pounds of calcium chloride. I will start with 22 pounds, test, and add more as needed. Do I just purchase this at a pool store and dump it in the pool all at one time?
