    How fast is your pump running? I increased my from 1400 to 1800 rpm. Also, I positioned my returns to cause the surface to move so there are always "ripples". Looks colder where you are. We only got down to 5F last night. Expecting 21F today with sun!

    I live near Nashville and this is my first winter with a pool. We covered exposed pipes and filter with moving blankets and tarp. Put a small 200W heater underneath. Running pump 24/7. Keeping an eye on neighbor’s pool who winterized and doesn’t run pump. Their pool is not frozen yet...

    PVC Butt Connectors?

    I was thinking vandalism at first also, but then why would he cap the lines coming from the ground. That is really strange. Maybe he couldn't get the couplings off the heater and decided he would break the pipe, cap the lines, and then fix in the spring.

    I am unsure of the internal damage you may have caused by spraying the WD-40 in there. You may want to call it loss. However... If it was humming and not turning, it may have been the capacitor. Will the motor spin freely by hand? If so, it again points to the capacitor and not a seized...

    Yet another year of opening to a CLEAR pool!

    That is very nice! There is no way I would expect a pool to look that clear upon just opening. Congratulations! P.S. I am so happy I do not have to deal with closing/opening a pool! Sorry.
