    Pump Motor Issues

Not sure how old the motor is. I assume 2 - 3 years old. The original run cap was a 20mfd @ 370VAC and the closest I found locally was a 25mfd @370VAC. The motor exhibits the same behavior with or without the new run cap installed.

    Pump Motor Issues

Thanks for the suggestion. I opened the back end of the motor and don't see a switch. I did find out the shaft does spin at a slow to medium speed when started, but it looks like there is a thermal protection reset that is shutting it off and restarting.

    Pump Motor Issues

Hi all- I have a 2ez Speed replacement motor that will not start. That shaft spins freely both directions, nothing is clogged in the impeller that I can feel. I replaced the run capacitor and it still tries to start and then shuts down. Video attached... It will try to start, shut down and...

Pump replumb - need temporary solution

Two days of a slightly noisy pump turned into a seized motor this morning... The motor housing was so corroded, two of the bolts sheared off with very little force when I tried to separate it. I was able to cut it out right at the inlet and have enough room for a union. The Intelliflo was a...

Pump replumb - need temporary solution

Thanks guys. I only have an inch and a half clearance behind the motor, so I doubt I'll be able to separate it from the wet end still plumbed. There's about an inch of PVC between the inlet of the pump and the coupling attached to the Jandy valve. What if I cut it right at the pump, clean up...

Pump replumb - need temporary solution

Just when I had finished my second pool equipment upgrade we moved to another house and I get to start over.... Everything is OK for now, but the pump bearings are starting to fail. I'd really like to replace the single speed with a two or variable and temporarily keep the existing plumbing...

    Check Valve / Flow Meter

Love mine. I'm using it with a VS pump as well as solar. I run 100% of the return through the solar and it allows me to use a single flow meter after the filter. With the solar bypassed, 25 GPM is 1250 RPMs and 160 watts. With the solar, 25 GPM is 1850 and 415 watts.

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

We'll I guess maybe I don't have a suction side leak that took most of my day away... I don't think I ever fully primed the pump as I lowered the max RPMs due to the single 1.5" pool suction line shared with the main drain and skimmer. The basket was always 95% full, but there was always a...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Finally up and running over the weekend. Had a scare when the screen on the VS pump wasn't readable when I first powered it up, but it's been fine the last three days. Quick question... Any idea why I'm getting DE through the returns on start up after I remove the Pump strainer cover? It's...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Getting closer... I should have the last return valve to the pool and old spa done tomorrow. After that is the power, solar control and finish painting the PVC. I left room in front of the filter for a booster pump if I or the next owner needs it.

Yes, I'm going to use a FlowVis http://h2flow.net/h2flow/index.cfm/products/flowvis-flow-meter/ for the check valve after the filter.

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Thanks, I appreciate all the input. I just picked up an Auquabot Breeze 4WD and I'm not 100 % happy with it, but the Polaris 280 we had prior spent more time stuck on our steps than cleaning the pool. I have another week to decide whether or not to keep the Breeze. The pool upgrade is part...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Thanks guys. Tunneled under the walk with little effort. The last thing I need to figure out is the best way to mount the Solar Control. The plan is to run the existing conduit into a weather proof junction box and mount the Solar Control directly above it. I don't need too much room and...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Getting closer.... All of the equipment is on-site minus one valve & I hope to get the panels installed over the weekend. I've been scouring the net looking for install instructions from the various solar panel manufactures and need to determine how much slope I should allow for drainage...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Solar panels should be here today and the rest of the equipment by the end of the week. I'm down to sourcing a few installation parts and miscellaneous fittings.... What should I use to mount the PVC pipe along the roof and wall for the solar install? I've seen everything from hose clamp...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Another question as I get things ordered... I want to replace the old wood board the timers are mounted to and I've noticed a couple of newer pools in my area have nice free standing metal panels. Anyone know a source?

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Thanks for the reply. I've been researching solar plumbing layouts and notice many systems have a bypass valve to balance the flow to the panels when in solar mode. Given the fact I'm going to have a VS pump, should I still take that approach or should I send 100% of the return through the...

Full Equipment Replacement and Adding Solar Questions

Hi All- Not sure if I should keep this as one post or split things up into the different sub forums with so many questions.... We're entering our second season of having a pool and had it re-tiled and re-surfaced it when we purchased the home. The equipment is a mess and I've been limping it...

Help with Pump Sizing - Suction & Return Limitations

Thanks again! My wife and I went to pick out tile yesterday and decided to upgrade to Wet Edge Satin Matrix from Altima in the process. Since we increased our refinish budget, I think I'm going to stick with a two speed and a new digital dual timer to sync with the booster. I'd like to stick...

Help with Pump Sizing - Suction & Return Limitations

Thanks for the reply. Given what you know about the pool. Is one of the two speeds you listed above a better choice? What are the major differences between the Whisperflo & Superflo pumps?

Help with Pump Sizing - Suction & Return Limitations

Not sure exactly what the old pump is. The pump portion is labeled Hydropump Model 700H 6B. The motor is a Magnetek Century 1.5HP. The pressure is 10-11 psi with a clean filter and 100% pool suction & 50/50 pool & spa return. The skimmer is 16' to the equipment. I would guess the main...

Help with Pump Sizing - Suction & Return Limitations

Hi All- I'm in the early stages of a pool remodel and need a little help with pump sizing. I'm contracting out new plaster and tile, but want to replace/replumb the equipment pad myself. Most of the resurfacing companies quickly bid the equipment portion of the remodel and I don't feel...
