Is a main pool drain necessary ?

When I had a leak in my liner I was running the skimmer/MD 50/50. It gave me some peace of mind that should the water level get too low, at least some water from the MD was geting to the pump. I've since switched to skimmers only and made a bone headed move yesterday. We had a massive amount of...

Well, I feel stupid for not checking, but I learned something. There was debris keeping the weir door from opening. All is well. Thanks!

water level in skimmer basket drops when pump is running

thanks for the replies guys. I'll check the weir door today. the water level seems normal as I do always aim for mid-skimmer mouth.

water level in skimmer basket drops when pump is running

I went to run the polaris today and i noticed a lot of air coming out of my return jets. i figured out that the water level in the skimmer closest to the pump was dropping very low and letting a ton of air in. there was also a strange white cloud of something coming out of the wall connection...

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

I'll have to check, I seem to remember seeing a fine mist of bubbles when looking at the jets underwater, but that was last year.

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

I've never thought to look for that. will report back in the AM. In other news, my small dribble leak at the pump discharge port is back :(

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

You can see small swirls against the lid. Does that indicate air? I thought it was normal to have a little.

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

Thanks. I don't see any leaks on the suction side but I used to have a tiny leak on the pressure side right at the pump housing. It's since disappeared when I cleaned the filter. Is it normal for these pumps to have to prime every time they start?

Air bubbles during startup after pump is off after awhile?

So if my pump is off for a period of time and I turn it back on, I can see and hear air being cleared by the jets. I'm assuming there is a slow air leak somewhere, but I don't see any obvious leaks from the plumbing anywhere. I do hear a sucking/sipping noise from the multiport valve and...

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

Oh I didn't know that. So I would need to know how many gallons my pool is to make sure it is sized appropriately, correct? Is there an easy way to calculate for a peanut shaped pool?

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

sorry one more question. It's probably obvious, but I just want to make sure I understand what you're suggesting with your pump/impeller recommendations. When you mentioned the 3/4 hp motor with a different impeller, is that in an effort to lower energy consumption with a smaller motor, but...

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

Whoops i guess I didn't understand that part. Thanks for clarifying. I think for simplicities sake, I'm just going to buy the replacement single speed o get me back up and running. I don't have a heater or a cleaner. Only a polaris.

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

Thanks for that. Sorry, the pump is a Hayward Superpump. It don't know exactly what my pump is drawing in electricity, but last fall when we didn't run the A/C, my power bill was $115 running the pool 8 hours a day. I'm guessing we have inexpensive electricity in the area (about 2.1cents per...

    Replacement for AO Smith B228SE

The bearings in my motor went recently and the after removing the motor, and seeing how rusted out the case is, I'm just going to replace the motor instead of the bearings. Is AO Smith now owned by Century? If so, is this the correct motor: Century A.O. Smith UST1102 56J C-Face 1 HP Single...

Hayward superpump shaft seal replacement gone wrong

I figured it out for anyone that this might help. Turns out that when I initially replaced the seal, there was a small part of the seal that was left behind on the impeller shaft. It was black just like the impeller and having not done this before, I didn't know what to look for. I'm glad it...

Hayward superpump shaft seal replacement gone wrong

Thanks. Do the two halves of the seal rotate together? Or does the spring loaded half spin against the fixed ceramic side? Or do they not move at all and the shaft spins inside the two halves?

Hayward superpump shaft seal replacement gone wrong

Yes, the shaft does spin easily, so by extention the pump should spin freely?

    Backwash hose

I thought about doing this as I want to bury a 4" PVC pipe with a pop up drain for my downspouts, which are close to the pump. I could easily plumb in a connection for the backwash line, but my only thought was that the DE might clog the pipe over time?

Hayward superpump shaft seal replacement gone wrong

I have a leaking Super pump so I bought one of these seals to replace the shaft seal: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HEAUAAY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Before I replaced it, I got the diffuser seal and housing seal from Leslies and brought in my shaft seal for...

    DE on bottom of pool?

It's definitely not a dust bunny. The bottom of the pool literally looks clean from the pool deck, but if you brush it there will be a small poof of a cloud.

    DE on bottom of pool?

I've been noticing more and more that there is what looks like sand depositing in areas of my pool. Also, if I brush an area that looks clean, a puff of debris kicks up, almost like a small cloud of sand. I've recently replaced 2 shredded grids and repaired a crack in my manifold with marine...

Help me ID my pump please?

I'm trying to diagnose a leak on my pump and I think it may be the shaft seal. I know I have a tiny leak from the discharge pipe where it exits the pump, but the slab is always wet under the pump itself. I know I need to determine the pump model so I can get the correct seal kit, correct...

Do I have to vacuum to waste?

Forgot to comment on the second half of your post. It was maintained by a pool service up until October of last year. The previous owner must have bought whatever they told him as there are tons of chemicals in the shed, along with lots of things that aren't recommended here. I've got the...
