    Outlet Positioning

I have moveable eyeball fittings so I can aim the outlet up for aeration.

    Outlet Positioning

Yeah, another return. I get confused with inlets and outlets and returns and so on. It's a new fitting where the water comes into the pool.

    Outlet Positioning

I'm planning to put in a second outlet in my 14x48 AGP. Could I install the new one lower than the existing outlet so that I have one outlet (the original) close to the surface and one (the new one) closer to the bottom? Seems to me that would help mix the layers of water better.

    Sand Filter Help

Your dirt may be dead algae. Does it sort of poof when you brush it, or does it lift and settle like dirt would? You may want to do an then, based on the results, run a on your pool.

I have one of those Harris branded Doheny sand filters and I love it! It was simple to install, and got here quick for a very reasonable privce.

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

Aaaand it's done! We had to use a bit of rigid pvc because we ran out of flex, but that's okay. Here it is, in all its glory: Comments? Suggestions? Raucous laughter and pointing? We have her filling up and will open the thing later today or tomorrow. So far the water is crystal clear and...

Got the run from the filter to the pump done, and filter to outlet. Tomorrow will be pump to inlet and skimmer, then fill it up and finally open! Pics of the project coming tomorrow as well!

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

Finally all the sand is in and the filter is ready for connection to the pump -- that's gonna happen today. We have 25 feet of flex pvc, which should be enough including my usual FUBARs. About 4 ft between filter and pump, 7 ft pump to outlet, 3 ft inlet to tee, 3 ft skimmer to tee, 7 ft tee to...

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

Went out today and got 75 lbs of sand loaded into the new sand filter before the heat drove us inside. The rest will be done tomorrow. Plumbing has to wait til DH Mike gets the gutter above the pool cleaned out.

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

We went to get sand for the new filter and 3 jugs of 10% chlorine today. At the pool store. Dude tried to sell us some sort of stuff in a clear jug called Vertec or something like that. It was 10% sodium hypo, but I didn't trust it. Nowhere did it say "chlorinating liquid". Pool Store Dude said...

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

Not really. I put in a skimmer about 2 years ago, and got over my nerves then. I even messed up the screw holes and had to patch the pool! So I'm a steely eyed pro at cutting pools!

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

You're right! My apologies. These are marking, cutting, and finally installing the inlet. There are no leaks, that's water in the pool that drained out when I was cutting the hole. You use one of the gaskets as a template, mark It along the inside hole of the gasket, then CAREFULLY cut...

Started the Great Plumbing Project today!

I told hubby Mike that he can help as long as (a) he stops when I stop and (b) he goes back in the house when I do. No working on his own! It may take longer, but it'll get done on a comfortable, doable schedule. There's no rush. So today we hauled the pump and filter out to the pad, and...

Thanks! What exactly is that, what does it do, and how do I use it?

    Harris 19" sand fulter

My new filter is a Harris 19" sand filter, going onto a Blue Torrent 1 hp single speed pump for an AGP. We were dry fitting everything and the filter has poly tubing that goes from the bottom which would reach to the top, and has a fitting on it so that you could fasten it to the top if you...

Kim, did you ever get a new pool?

    New Plumbing

Oh yes, I have valves for each conxn to the pool. Valterra gate valves. Very nice. Also outlet/inlet caps that screw into the eyeball openings of the fittings. I've learned well from everyone, most of all you!, at TFP!!

    New Plumbing

Thanks for the welcome back, Newdude! I broke my left ankle in 2020, and was laid up 10 weeks, and the season was over by the time I was hobbling around again. Then in 2021 I broke my left leg and same scenario, 10 week layup. No pool season. Our son used it and cleaned it, and hubby Mike kept...

    New Plumbing

Weii, I'm back for my 4th year of pool ownership, and have decided to make the plunge (heh) and replumbing the pool. It's an above ground Best way pool, 15x4 feet. It had a 1/2 hp pump on it with a 12 inch sand filter. I'm moving up to a 1 hp pump and a 16 or 19 in sand filter, I forget which...

    Explain unions please

Thanks everybody! So for my setup, I'm guessing I should have a union at each outlet from the pump to the pool, and a union on the pump to filter run? I have gate valves for the pool outlet and inlets -- do I need a union after the gate valve too? I'm going to use flex pc.

    Explain unions please

Bump -- anyone done hard plumbing can help me understand unions?
  23. Wobblerlorri

    Explain unions please

I know I'll need them, but I don't understand why. I'm going to plumb my new pump and filter this fall using 1.5 inch flexible pvc. I know I need gate valves on each pipe (outlet, inlet, and skimmer), but I have these questions: 1. What is a union? 2. What does it do? 3. How many will I need...

How to go from intex pump/filter to doughboy

Yes, there are converters like this https://www.amazon.com/Swimline-1-25-Hose-Adaptor-Pumps/dp/B01B4C7UB4/ref=sr_1_30?crid=1W7N2LMPPV1EI&dchild=1&keywords=1.5+inch+to+1.25+inch+converter+for+pool+hoses&qid=1623673874&sprefix=1.25+to+1.5+pool+converter%2Caps%2C210&sr=8-30 That's what I have on my...

How to go from intex pump/filter to doughboy

I would hard plumb that or use flexible pc for your hoses and connectors. (As a matter of fact, I have a new 1.5 hp pump and sand filter waiting in the garage to replace the 3/4 hp pump I have now, which replaced the dinky Bestway cartridge filter pump that came with the pool! I replaced it...

    Pump Leaking!!!

Mike put a different hose between the pump and filter (where it was still leaking) and that seems to have solved the problem. So now we're running 24/7 again, and the SLAM proceeds unencumbered!

    Pump Leaking!!!

Here's a puzzlement -- Mike (hubby) just came in to update me on the pump leakage. In the course of conversation he said the hoses fit the outlets on the pump without the converter from 1 1/2 inch to 1 1/4 inch. I told him that's impossible because the fittings on the pool are 1 1/4. He said...

    Pump Leaking!!!

Here are the connections that are leaking. This is the hose from the pump to the sand filter. Both are on reducers to take a 1 1/2 port down to fit a 1 1/4 hose. Or whatever Intex/Bestway uses -- I've had a brain fart on the size. This is the hose from the pool to the filter. This is the...
