How to Choose Equipment for New Build

The Master Temp 400 has an internal bypass: This is much better than heaters without a bypass such as most heat pumps but not as good as an external bypass. To give you an idea of performance difference in a similar setup to yours, with the heater in-line and the pump at full speed, the...

    Spa Jet manufacturer???

If you search through the forum, you will find a wide variety of spa jets being used. I and many others use standard #7 Tees, single jets. Poly Storm are also very popular. It is really about personal preference so only you can answer what is right for your situation. As I mentioned in your...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

Then I would get the PBs input as what is possible given the current situation. They are responsible in the end.

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

I would plumb separate air lines. Otherwise if one pump was running and the other was not, water would come out of one of the air lines. That could also happen if the flow rates are substantially different between the two pumps which they are so it would be better to have them separated to...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

There is supposed to be a comment there but it is gone for some reason. Here are the definitions: Filters 0 - None 1 - Cartridge/DE/>5sqft->30" Sand 2 - 3 sqft-24" Sand 2.5 - 2.5 sqft-20" Sand 5 - 2 sqft-19" Sand These do not include the MPV if you are going with a DE or sand. That is in line...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

I would use 3" to/from the spa and 2.5" around the spa after the 3" splits into 2. To keep jets at full strength, you want to reduce head loss in the rest of the plumbing as much as possible. Plus upsizing pipe should not cost you much. For a gunite pool, the wall depth is at least 8" and...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

If you are ok with running both pumps all the time, then that should be fine but I would go with two separate loops for each pump as it will give you more flexibility. Loop #1: 4 single jets to main circulation loop with filter/heater, 3" suction/return Loop #2: 2x3 Manifolds to second...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

A 2.5" suction pipe should not exceed 6 ft/sec per regulations which is 90 GPM. What size spa jets are you using? 15 GPM jets will well exceed 90 GPM depending on other system head loss. With 8 jets @ 15 GPM each, I would not recommend anything less than 3" pipe...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

Are you planning to add more jets? Normally, a two pump solution like that is for more than 8 jets and usually an upper/lower configuration so the loops do not have to cross. What you need to decide on first, is how many stations (i.e. supported users) you want, how many jets per station and...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

I have a grate across the end of the pipe. That prevents critters from getting in and plugging the pipe. Not so worried about the smaller stuff. I never noticed anything coming out of the jets so I just assumed they have no interest or too small to notice.

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

Again, you don't actually need a blower if the air line is designed properly and the flow rate to the jets is sufficient. I have a 6 jet spa with 15 GPM jets and no blower. I get more than enough air for the bubbles without a blower. Adding a blower would just put a lot of water on the deck...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

When you reduce the orifice size, the required flow rate is reduced as well to maintain the venturi effect. However, the strength and/or force of the jet is proportional to the product of the flow rate and orifice velocity (i.e. fluid momentum). A 3/8" jet at 15 GPM would have an impact force of...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

I had assumed you were using individual jets like this: OR are you using jet manifolds like this: This clusters 3 jets for an individual. But how are you calculating the flow per jet? The above would require 45 GPM (3x15), not 15 GPM.

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

The only ones I have seen for spa side are the small diameter that sit right above each of the venturi jets. That way it gives you control on a jet by jet basis.

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

Venturi tees are used with or without a blower so turning off the blower does not necessarily turn off the air to the venturis. They will still try to suck in air and blowers will allow some air to get through even when they are off. You may also need a valve to shut off the air so that may not...

Traditional air venturi vs blower for spa

In reality, the blower does not really add much in the way of strength to the jets because it is just air. The main purpose of a blower is to clear the air line of water when the jets are first turned on. However, not every spa design can work without a blower. Most PBs do not understand...

Pump size and number of jets.

The plumbing around the spa looks fine, I just don't understand why the PB used such small pipe from the spa to the pump. Any other views showing the pipe runs to the equipment? Do you know what size jets they used? I am counting 8 jets on the top are there 4 on the bottom?
  19. mas985

Pump size and number of jets.

Not without separate suction lines and return lines going to pad. The current plumbing (1 1/2"?) is way too small for spa jets. That small of a pipe really should not exceed 50 GPM which is only 4 GPM per jet. There is no jet on the market that needs that little of a flow rate and even if they...

Pump size and number of jets.

The blower attaches to the air line, not the jet water lines. That just means you have two air lines. With a suction, return and air line for each loop, there should be 6 pipes coming up near the equipment pad from just the spa.
  21. mas985

Pump size and number of jets.

One more pont, you said there were two loops but does each loop have it's own suction line and return line back to the equipment pad? If the PB used only one suction and one return line so only one pump can be used, then the jets will likely be very weak.

Pump size and number of jets.

If you are talking about a Hartford loop, that goes near the spa jets, not the blower.
  23. mas985

Pump size and number of jets.

Does each loop have equal number of jets and are the jets the same size? Also, make sure the PB installs a Hartford loop on each of the jet loops to prevent the air pipes from filling with water. That way, you won't need a blower if you don't want one.

Pump size and number of jets.

You need to go by GPM not HP. If you are set on 12 jets, I would go with two plumbing loops with a VS pump and 6 jets on each loop. This way you can use larger jets which are stronger and cover more body area. Using 7/16" jets and 3" plumbing should get you about 22 GPM per jet which are very...

Follow my owner build pool in AZ

With 2x5' sheers you will need at least two pumps if you want to run the sheers and anything else at the same time. Recommendations for sheers waterfalls are at least 12 GPM/ft. So a 5' sheer needs at least 60 GPM and two would be 120 GPM but some like the look at higher flow rates so having...

Dedicated Spa pump VS or single speed

I think those are 5/16" 10 GPM jets: https://www.waterwayplastics.com/manuals/810-0339.0512.pdf Assuming a dedicated Intelliflo3, 65' of 3" pipe to/from the spa jets and 10 x 5/16" jets, the pump should be able to deliver close to 119 GPM or a little less than 12 GPM/jet which is good for a...

    Dig Day November 28!

If air temperatures are that low, another option would be to just drain the pad equipment assuming the pad is above water level. When water temps get below 50F, there really isn't much chance of algae anyway so the pool can safely sit idle for many days until water temps start to rise again...
