    Older Pool Surface Question

Hi Andy, that quote sounds pretty good, but if you are wanting to compare a few places let me know. I'm in your area and know a couple good companies.

That is awesome! I'm right around the corner from you in Antelope. Our water temp is sitting at about 78 right now with the solar cover on. How concerned are you about roof damage with those panels? That is my biggest hesitation.

I'm going to be watching to see how well it does for you. We want to add solar heat too, but I'm nervous about hastening our need for a new roof. When we finally re-roof we will probably add solar. First I need salt! Anyhow, looks great! I've been watching this thread from the beginning.

Interesting. I have no markings at all. Who knows maybe it was just the standard around here for a while. I can tell you I don't like it though.

I live in the same general area as Luckycoffin and my returns and skimmer configuration are quite similar. Wonder if it was the same builder.

I was going to say the same as kimkats. When they chip out plaster it isn't a 100% chipout, it was more like 90%. You don't want some dirt there to prevent adhesion of the new plaster. So if you own a pressure washer have at it! As far as the plumbing lines go...I know nothing about that, the...

Yes! It's soooo hot out here right now too. Up to 109 for the next 5 days! I drag our big ice chest out for our trades in the summer and fill it with water, gatorade, sodas, etc. They always seem to really appreciate it. Also, I set out some umbrellas and folding chairs for the occasional...

Hi Neighbor! We had a baja shelf added to ours during our replaster and I love it. I will sit on it in a chair and read a lot and our 2 year old grandson loves to wade around on it and then jump off into the deeper water from it. So far it's been a worth while investment for us. Ours isn't very...

Replaster or not to replaster that is the ?

My NONexpert opinion is as long as it's holding water, you can get several more years out of it. Going by what I see in your pictures my pool was 1000 times worse than what you're dealing with and we still got 3 seasons out of it (after buying the house). Every time I emptied the vacuum canister...

New Build in SoCal - Pebble tomorrow, Start up Saturday

We had our small baja shelf added when we replastered last year. I just went out and measured and it is 14.5" deep at the water line (so probably close to 17.5 to the bottom of the coping). We also added an umbrella sleeve. We have some plastic adirondack chairs that fit perfectly on it, just...

    Buried Pool renovation

Our patio and pool decking is exposed aggregate and VERY uncomfortable to sit on and definitely snags the bathing suits. I bought a couple of outdoor rug runners and put them along the edges. They stay out there all season.

LOL purple! I think you should STAY! And as for where the dirt comes from, detritus from trees/shrubs/grass clippings etc. accumulate, decompose, and there you go. A nice rich compost to grow weeds ;) My plan for my yard is to remove all the plastic/pea gravel/bark a section at a time, find...

Paint? For the pool deck? And, the PB isn't chipping out the old plaster, just pressure washing it? On another note, what a pretty view! You're going to be so glad when this is done!

I am ALSO dealing with "pebble weeds". Several layers of it in fact. From what I'm finding in my digging, is that they (previous owners, plural) put down plastic, then pebbles, then dirt??? then plastic, then more pebbles, then more pebbles, then bark, then??? Then we moved in with our...

Can this pool marriage be saved? Renovate or demo.

We just had our pool replastered 4 weeks ago, we opted for just tile cleaning instead of replacement (replacement would have been about $2500), I'm not sure if you have extensive tile damage or not, but if it's just a few popped tiles that might be something to consider. In your crumpled...

Small pool reno with cabo shelf

LOL, Thanks Kim, no worries. I got it figured out. Overshot CYA and ended up with 50 (was going for 30 or 40). I put it in hairnets tied up and hung it in the skimmer, dissolved so fast that way! PH rise is starting to slow down a bit now, my TA is somewhere in the 70-80 range. I only needed to...

Small pool reno with cabo shelf

Just got the equipment back up and running. Took me a while to figure out how to get it to prime. Brushed all the walls and pushed what I could towards the main drain, which I'm not even sure if it's pulling water. Tested water, these are the numbers: CH - 100 PH - 8.2+ (added a couple quarts of...

Small pool reno with cabo shelf

Thanks kimkats...I have about a gallon and a half already, but I've read about so many people with wildly fluctuating PH and needing to add it so often. I tested our fill water last night and our numbers were: PH = 7.0-7.2 (wasn't too sure but it was somewhere in there) CH = 75 TA = 150 I have...

It is my plastering guy's custom color. He calls it "Manzanillo medium" which I believe he described as a Tahoe blue with some gray mixed in. I was originally wanting Midnight blue, but he warned me against it because he felt like it was harder to get the color consistent. This custom color is...

Yeah, I was aware of not stopping the water, and the plasterers reiterated it STRONGLY before they left. I just realized that I'm a little unprepared and need to go get some MA. Any advice on how much I should initially stock up on?

All done! I was wrong about the color, but I like this better than what I was imagining, and hubby wasn't thrilled with the idea of gray. Now gotta figure out all the chems and balancing everything.

Plaster tomorrow! Today all they did was come and clean up the pile of plaster debris from inside the pool. I broke down the filter and gave the cartridge a good cleaning and lubed up all the o-rings. I have a new cartridge waiting in the garage that I will install after the bulk of the plaster...

Small pool reno with cabo shelf

I didn't get a chance to take pictures of the actual forms they used, but they were very basic, from the far right corner to that angled turn on the left they used a large sheet of plywood. I sure wish we could have spared more room for a larger shelf, but it'll serve it's purpose.

Concrete poured... Also, skimmer line leak was found and fixed. We figure this pool is as old as the house, so about 30 years. Apparently the plumbing was put in and then covered with dirt, and then the concrete decking was poured. They found a wood stake from the concrete form was pounded down...
