    New pool build

That's every pool so stop beating yourself up. The pics you see are a momentary snap shot of that moment in the season. As few as 5 mins later that pool may be an entirely different color. One cloud is all it takes. Lol. It will be a bazillion shades, some, entirely sideways from...

Variable speed vs single speed pump

They've officially priced me out. At this point, I'd laugh if I needed 3 of the cheap pump because I didn't cave and pay the absurd flagship brand prices. Statistically speaking, the first pump would go the distance. Those with automation, or the thoughts they might go there one day need...

Variable speed vs single speed pump

Please ask anytime. :) The single speed pump only has max speed and will be an energy hog. It's a non starter. A smaller VS pump will need to run at a higher speed to have the same flow as a larger VS pump, using more energy (but not tons). So skimming and SWG production will cost...

Variable speed vs single speed pump

Pictures say 1000 words, so here's 2000 worth. With a large pump, my SWG activates at 700 RPMs. Which speed would you rather need for 24 hour run time ? A 1.6 HP will need more RPMs for the same flow, using more energy. A 2 speed may not have the flow on low speed to activate the...

Dual Track Coping + New Liner

Ok they doubled it up where needed. GREAT. Far too many only do the one or two spots needing it today, then 2 more spots 3 years from now and another spot ot two the next year. LL is so cheap it's just not worth skimping on it.

Dual Track Coping + New Liner

For $27 order 120ft from Amazon and wrap the whole perimeter in 15 mins. No need to wait 4 years to find out which parts will stretch or come loose. If there's any tight spots that don't push in with your thumbs, use a block of scrap 2x4 and a rubber mallot to give them some love taps...

    New pool build

They change the names so often most only last a couple of seasons. It'll end up aqua blue surf instead of surf blue aurora. :ROFLMAO: Here is just a slice of some of the colors I see to give you an idea how much any finish choice will swing. Just get near the outskirts, of the suburbs...

    Encouragement for DIY people

I did much better taking the gut punches on pool #2, knowing that they'd quickly be distant memories. But they still hurt at the time. Starting our 3rd season on the new pool was truly turn key and I belly laugh about most of the struggles I encountered now. For everyone building...

Electrical Outlet Placement - Fence set into concrete pad, not outside

They make all in one PVC post/recepticals which could be placed inside the perimeter before the deck is laid/poured. I'd prefer one of these if going through the patio as a 4x4 will inevitably rot.

    PVC fitting pressure Question

While they probably would have worked, is it worth it to bury them under your patio and back to the pad ? Even if you had to eat the cost, it's worth eating IMO.

Diving board anchors - one is shorter

Go find whoever charged you good money to leave it like that. I'd beat them with the diving board but talking it out might work also. You do you.

New fiberglass pool build in OBX- Current stage Fence and Landscape.

Love the house, not the struggles. We sold below where we wanted right as the lockdowns were ending but got a better house for less than *they* were happy about. We made out better in the end, then everything exploded and it's worth double now. It means nothing as we're staying...

Thoughts on the edge of pool deck

With a similar hill to the pool, I used the old patio bricks as a border and added 3/8ths Gravel for a grass clippings buffer. Now the bricks have the unfinished edge instead of the patio. :ROFLMAO: But the buffer helps trap blowing crud. It's also more to weed, as you see.

    New Build - DFW

Keep in mind they likely have several, if not all of their customers impatient about the same delays. Your stage in your progress may not be the best way for them to get back on track, helping you and everyone else in the long run. It's frustrating but it is what it is sometimes. It's a...

18 year old liner replaced by 63 year old couple? Yes!

*newbs take note* THIS is how you make a belated introduction. :ROFLMAO: And WELL DONE Rob !!!!! But also low key sad we didn't get to help and cheer along the way.

    Pool repair and painting

Welp. I was quoted a similar price to replace my roof, on the high end of a replaster. (Still healthy, but getting 'about that age') If I could spend a similar amount of time and money to paint it every year to extend its life, I wouldn't. 4 years OTOH would be a much harder...

Down to final liner decision - Grey Bonair

We didn't like borders either. IMO they came about in the 80s trying to mimic the fancier waterline tiles of plaster pools and make it look tacky instead.

If everyone got 4 years it would be worth it for alot more folks. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. :salut:

    Post build to swim time?

You need CYA to help protect the FC from the sun, or else you'll be adding FC every 30 minutes. And lots of it. So get 30 CYA going if none has been added once the pump is running. Then get the PH to a low 7. Then SLAM away.

Lathams, Tara or Hydra Liner? Ranking?

I agree going with a national name brand. But Tara has been at it for 40 years and Hydra has 30 years on the scene. I'm OK with a smaller regional player that's been around.

Not sure what this is called.

Pool stair trim / coping / beauty strips. They come with the stairs and folks usually have a hard time finding the exact ones of the few available to replace them. Google up those 3 terms above as pool stair XXXX strips. And Welcome to TFP !!!

Textured Liner All Over vs Just on Steps and Sundeck?

I have textured liner on my bench and it feels beefier than the rest of the pool. I'm very happy with it from a durability standpoint. It's fading quicker than the rest of the pool, but I'm 98% sure that's because it's horizontal and 18 inches deep.

Is it possible to have too much decking?

There can never be enough patio/deck. You can have enough for a full court basketball game, and 2 extra teams show up and have to wait to play. I put in 1800 sq ft and it HURT. And 2 months later I was kicking myself for shaving a couple feet off the backside of the pool that would...

Hey Grace and THANKS !!!!!! Wait. I mean Welcome !!!! Sorry I was too excited about the project you brought to us. It's going to be sooooooo cool. :salut: I'm 100% with Allen on only one way to go : Large VS pump (less energy used) Large SWG. (Longer lifespan for little...

07 June 2024: High suction lift difficult to prime

They were laying my filter plumbing the same as they always do, in front. I asked them to use the back so the drain was in the front. It is SUPER nice being able to walk right up to the filter. Your drain looks good as is, but you can put an extension and a valve on it if it ends up...

Are these liner issues I should be worried about?

They used 3 or 4 colors in my corners. Some of my liner was pulling out because they only LL'd the corners so I made the PB LL the whole thing, in one color. But it's stupid easy, and cheap, so I would have DIYd that in a heartbeat if I had to. There was no need to die on that...

Are these liner issues I should be worried about?

The corners should have liner lock wedges shoved in there. For Less than $30 i highly suggest you do the whole pool. It'll take no more than 15 mins and stop areas from pullong out down the road. You literally just push it into the seam at the track with your fingers. If it's tight...

Are these liner issues I should be worried about?

Does it sit in the groove of the other corners ? All 4 of mine are rounded in 90 degree corners. My old pool was too.
