Sand/dirt getting into the pool through the jets - cartridge filter

That's been my fear. I think it's the only explanation for the amount of dirt that comes in regularly. However, I'll take a closer look at the insides of the filter to see if I spot any problems. However, it would mean that the dirt is coming in from somewhere else and *then* making it through...

Sand/dirt getting into the pool through the jets - cartridge filter

It's a Hayward SwimClear with 3 cartridges. I've cleaned them recently, I didn't notice anything unusual, but there certainly could be something going on. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

Sand/dirt getting into the pool through the jets - cartridge filter

Quite sure -- the bigger pieces are definitely little pieces of rock - see attached photos. The numbers - FC is at 5, CC at 0, pH is 7.8, although it does very frequently and quickly go to 8 or over, so I do have to put in acid frequently. Calcium is high, at 630.

Sand/dirt getting into the pool through the jets - cartridge filter

I've had this ongoing problem for a year or so, where I get a good bit of dirt and sand coming into the pool from the jets bringing in the water from the pump. I have 3 jets and two water features, with three pipes leading out from the pump -- one for each water feature, and one for all the...

Tiny bubbles in one return jet

Thanks for the tip, I'll go through that page! No problems whatsoever with the pump. It works great, and there's not a single bubble in the pump basket. Oh, man.. I had my kid's birthday party today, and lots of kids in there... I filled it up well over the usual line in the morning, knowing...

Tiny bubbles in one return jet

One of my 4 return jets has many tiny bubbles in its stream... You can see them only when you get really close to it, or at night, when you turn the light right next to it on. The other 3 don't appear to have any. I have a setup with one pump that's driving 3 return pipes -- one for a waterfall...

    Pool maintenance non liquid

With SWG, though, he'll have to regularly pour MA into the pool to keep the pH down, and if he doesn't like handling liquids... that one is even worse.

New pool/home owner, stuck in pre-testing limbo!

Welcome to TFP :). I'm fairly new here myself, but I think I can answer your bonus question. The "low tech" vacuum solution attaches to your skimmer -- you just get a vacuum head, and a vacuum hose (sold separately) of appropriate length, and google "attaching vacuum hose to skimmer" -- there...

How much acid will I have to keep buying?!

Thanks! This morning, TA registered at barely over 60, and for the first time, the pH was not at 8.0 in the morning -- it was around 7.6... So, I guess sticking with it did pay off.

    SWG just came in...now what

I've been asking this in another thread, and was told to keep doing it until TA comes down... and sure enough, once the TA got to about 70, the acid routine finally slowed down. I was dumping half a gallon in every day, and was starting to wonder if I'll have to find a place to bulk order the...

    SWG just came in...now what

The K-2006 does have salt measuring instructions on the inside of the top lid, however mine also came without the reagents for it. I had to order mine separately from tftestkits.

How much acid will I have to keep buying?!

It hasn't been that slow for me, which is my other concern -- at this rate, I'll have to be raising my TA regularly, as well. I brought it down from 140 to 85 in just two weeks. I don't know if 85->60 will go slower, but if it goes down at the same rate, I'll be at 50 at the end of the week, and...

How much acid will I have to keep buying?!

How much lower should I go? The recommended values are 60-80, I'm just barely over -- is it ok to go below 60, or aim for around 60?

How much acid will I have to keep buying?!

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'm stuck with running the water features and dumping in acid at about a gallon a week... I was really hoping there was a way to reduce that.

How much acid will I have to keep buying?!

I bought a house with a pool without knowing a first thing about pool maintenance. The previous owner said "take the water to Leslie's from time to time, do what they say, and you'll be fine".. So, I did, and, well, after much money, time, and energy spent, I found this forum and realized that...
