I don't have quite the animosity some of you have towards pool store tests. Since my store is 3 minutes from me I can compare my results to theirs rather quickly and when my FC is above what I can measure then I can go there till I use up what I have. The only thing I couldn't test with was the...

    Need help breaking chlorine lock

I have tested my CH myself with the drops and the store has always matched my numbers within acceptable margins. My comments on raising my CH were in the event that my FC was stable and holding. FC seems to be holding between my night and morning tests for the last 3 days. I need to order a...

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but It still needed about 4 gallons of chlorine at 6pm. This morning my numbers: FC 3.44 TC 3.48 PH 7.3 TA 106 CH 202 CYA 38 Looks like it might finally be OK. I think I need to raise the hardness to 350 which is the start of the ideal range in Pool...

I see, I am not adding any more conditioner. Hopefully I am done adding massive amounts of chlorine as well. I'll post my results after lunch.

I am hoping to be done adding CYA though. At 30 the tabs might only take it up to 40 at this point by end of my season and that should still be reasonable CYA. Thoughts?

Todays results after putting 19 gallons of 11% chlorine. These are the stores results as I don't have the other kits I ordered yet. FC .4 TC 1.06 pH 7.1 TA 101 CH 216 CYA 30 Just added 2 gallons more of chlorine, and will check at lunch where I stand. Also set my chlorinator to 4 with 5 tabs...

    Need help breaking chlorine lock

After looking at my testers drops and such the only thing I needed to buy was r-0003 to test TC and buy a CYA kit. However my tester doesn't go about 5 for chlorine, so I will need to change to a different drop setup later.

I feel like that must be what is going on. Its the only thing that makes sense. Its unfortunate that when selecting SLAM it doesn't change that warning. It really made me think that some value was wrong and I wasn't in a place to start the process.

I thought the same thing after researching how that was possible.

    Need help breaking chlorine lock

I do have a test kit, just not as robust as what is recommended. So I have been going to the store for 2 reasons in between my testings: 1 test CYA and FC vs Tc 2 Provide proof of a well maintained pool in case I have issues with my plaster. It was just done last year, so I wanted to be able to...

Very interesting, so do you change from liquid chlorine to something like cal-hypo?

    Need help breaking chlorine lock

yes, it was around 40 on May 20th. I think having my inline chlorinator set too low for several weeks and then allowing my FC to drop to 0 for two weeks was the culprit in my CYA dropping to 5.

James, I use natural chemistry metal free at the start and end of the season and I'm trying out that culator bag in my skimmer. I saw that in the Water Chemistry part today after I did it.

I just added 3 lbs of borax to reach 7.2 and 9 lbs of calcium early this morning to raise hardness. I am going to the pool store now to get more conditioner and will add 68 oz in hopes of not driving it too high over 30. Unless that message always turn on when the FC goal is above 6?

    Need help breaking chlorine lock

I understand the need for a test kit however unless my pool stores test is wrong I have a place to start. But I don't understand why the pool math calculator tells me I am out of range to do the SLAM. What do I need to correct in order to do the SLAM?

How do I get my pool to within range to start the SLAM process?

I have read that, and looked at doing the SLAM using the pool math calculator but when I select slam it keeps telling me my target is out of range! with no recommendations on what specifically is out of range.

Hi, thanks, I found that term searching online for my problem. Leslies didn't actually use it. These results are from the store but I usually test my water myself using Taylor drops. I just don't have the CYA or drops to differentiate between total chlorine and free chlorine.

Hey guys I've been reading this forum for about 6 years off and on, and now I have a problem I can't seem to get ahead of. This Monday I realized I hadn't checked my pool since Father's day (two weeks) and my water was a milky white under my solar cover. Water analysis on 29Jun21 FC .66 TC 8.07...
