Experience/thoughts about burying/demolishing an inground concrete pool?

I've started talking to some potential contractors... Breaking up the concrete (and the deck) and removing all of it, then backfilling the pool with dirt is called a "full removal" (vs. putting the broken concrete into the pool and then backfilling, which is called a "partial removal"). There...

Experience/thoughts about burying/demolishing an inground concrete pool?

Bperry, That (water intrusion) is the kind of "unknown" and "unintended consequence" that I am most worried about. Also, I forgot to mention that in the area we are in, all houses use septic systems, rather than public sewer, so each home has septic tank (in our case 2 of them) in the ground...

Experience/thoughts about burying/demolishing an inground concrete pool?

Hi, [I hope that posting this query here is ok....] We have had our pool (originally built by Anthony-Sylvan) for quite awhile. We originally had it built when our kids were middle school age, but they are all grown up now and are no longer living with us, so basically it is just myself and...

Polaris 360 keeps floating (and doesn't go to bottom)

Hi, We have been using a Polaris 360 for years and the one we have now is our 2nd one, only a couple of years old, and after we opened the pool this year, the 360 is not going to the sides and bottom but is basically staying floating on the top. We checked the placement of the 3 styrofoam feed...

Pressure-side connector problem - Something is stuck inside the wall fitting

Hi, We just got our pool open. We have a pressure-side Polaris 360, so the pool guys attached that as part of the opening. After the opening, the pool guy said that the filter grid was "falling apart", needed replacing so we told him to replace that it, so he is now waiting for the parts (he...

    Algae in pool

Thanks. I know this might not make sense, buy what I am fighting here is our pool guy says ignore the cya and if the FC is good then should not have algae and my wife believes him and doesn't want drain.

    Algae in pool

Hi Rancho, Our pool is not exactly rectangular (it's shaped like a peanut ) - but approx. dimensions are 22x42=924 sq ft. So 1' drop would be about 6911 gallons Pool is 28000 gallons, so that would be about 25%? I can do it in early evening, then maybe fill it that night? Then measure the...

    Algae in pool

Also, it is still hot here (~95 F), so if I drop the water 1-2 feet, some of the plaster will be exposed. Is that ok? Or will it potentially damage the plaster while we fill the pool back up? Sorry that I seem to be being obstinate, but we are really hesitant to drain it completely. Thanks, Jim

    Algae in pool

Hi, We are still having algae, maybe 2-3 days after brushing (each time). I am still unclear about draining incrementally. We have about a month until we close, so can I do that (e.g., drain 1-2 feet at a time, then re-fill and test CYA)? Jim

    Algae in pool

No our water is not free (we get it from the county water authority).

    Algae in pool

is it possible/feasible to drain the pool incrementally, i.e., a foot at a time, then fill a foot, then drain another foot. I really don't want to drain the entire pool at one time and risk it popping. Jim

    Algae in pool

Hi, I ran that diluted test (step 8) and it just barely still made it to only the 100 mark, so I'd say CYA is 100x2 = 200? Also, that was after I had drained about 1 1/2 tiles (height) of water from the pool yesterday (we had ran the day before that). So I still kind of have the question...

    Algae in pool

Hi, Got the new R-0013 reagent (from Amazon) yesterday. CYA: >100 (K2006 kit tube doesn't have lines for >100) FC: 10.5 (10ml sample/.5 per drop, 21 drops) One of my sons came over and brushed the pool 2 days yesterday. Algae seems mostly gone, but there was some staining in the spa seat)...

    Algae in pool

Thanks for that. I was using the 25ml because I was assuming that the 10ml sample wouldn't be accurate enough.

    Algae in pool

Only test I was able to do was the FC one - 25ml - 42drops so I think FC is 42x0.2=8.4. I'll try the test again tomorrow after the CYA reagent gets here.

Bummer - just found that I am out of the R-0013 reagent. Ordering some from prime for delivery tomorrow.

    Algae in pool

Hi, BTW, if the CYA is too high (>100) is the only way to drop it really to drain water from the pool?

    Algae in pool

Hi, Yes, I know. Things have been crazy here - all kinds of crazy, work and other stuff. Earlier (a couple of weeks? or maybe a month) I had algae first time, and found there was like 0 CYA, and had to add bunch of stuff (don't remember) to get the CYA up > 0, then it was good for awhile...

    Algae in pool

We've had our pool (28000 gallon, concrete/plaster) for quite awhile, and this year, for the first time, we are having problems with algae (mainly on walls on deep end, near skimmer). We've had a lot of rain this year, and it's also been really hot. I don't know if that is why. Anyway, I...

I'll discuss that (stop using the tabs and go to liquid chlorine).

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

I guess it is relative, but yes, I *think* our water rates are quite high here. For example, when we topped off the pool at opening this year our water bill was > $300 (for 3 months) vs. like $70 for normal 3 months, plus that $300 was WITH a 1-time-a-year discount that we get because we have a...

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

Hi, Tested this morning (Taylor K-2006): FC: ~6.5 CC: ~0 (** CORRECTED - it's the part where add R-0003 after the FC test - did not turn pink) So FC/CC hasn't changed much in last couple of days (maybe down 1). Water is crystal clear :)!! I did the diluted CYA test and got ~50 (it was...

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

Thanks I'll look for that at Lowes tomorrow if we can't find the one we THINK we had awhile ago. BTW, I know I am still due to try the diluted CYA test.... will get to that maybe/hopefully tomorrow.

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

kimkats, Thanks. Re. lube, we thought we had some but looks like we don't now :(.. The o-rings (I got o-rings for both the pot cover and for the drain plug, just in case) are supposed to get here tomorrow (Sunday, here), so what kind of lube do we need from Lowes? Is it something special for...

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

Hi, Sorry - we all got busy with family activities over the fourth holiday, but I wanted to update this thread. I was somewhat doubtful of the readings I was getting with the 3 different methods I was using (Taylor K2006, Poolmaster, Accu strips). Maybe they were too old or something, but...

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

Ok, I just realized that the Taylor K-2006 kit can also measure CYA and I ran the test and got 100 :(!! SO now, it looks like the SLAM FC is like 39? And then according to the poolmatch, I need like 9 pounds 7 ounces of shock? Ok, I know you recommend using liquid bleach, but I don't have...

    Pool suddenly cloudy overnight

Hi, I have some (possibly doubtful) info. The test strips I have are Aquachek7, and include CYA. If I believe that, it is saying that CYA is < 30. When we did the renovation, they brought water in in several tankers, i.e., the water in the pool has mostly only been there for maybe 2.5 - 3...
