My wife asked me why I obsess over the pool...

OK thanks. I have been adding borax to do both. My TA got a little out of whack so I've added about 8 lbs of borax to lower pH as I bring TA down. Hopefully a couple of boxes aren't too detrimental. Where should I be sourcing borax acid from? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

New plaster in January 2017. Updated pics. When should I add borax? Heard 6 months as a general rule of thumb. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Cloudy water after sodium carbonate added

I haven't found a TA level where my pH is stable, so I was experimenting a little. I'm trashing my sodium carbonate and sticking with TA of 60 and pH at 7.8. I have new quartz plaster (2 months ago) and this isn't helping my pH values either. At least I hope new plater is the culprit. Sent...

Cloudy water after sodium carbonate added

My pool has been cloudy for a week. Agreed on TA at 60 is fine. I brought TA up so I could lower pH to 7.5 and still have balanced CSI. Is my logic flawed? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Cloudy water after sodium carbonate added

I have cloudy water after adding sodium carbonate to raise TA from 60-80. I just tested and here are my results using TF-100 test kit: FC - 2.5 CH - 350 pH - 8.2, needs about 32oz to get back to 7.8 TA - 80 CYA - 50 salt - 3100 Borates - 0 74* CSI - .39 I'm adding some bleach to get around 5...

    New Plaster Water Appearance Question

I suspected copper from some material correlating the color of stains with certain minerals. How I arrived at cloudy, green, water as copper, no clue. Clearly I misinterpreted the material. Our pool is outdoors. They used the acid startup method. No algaecides or sequestrants were added at...

    Spa draining into pool overnight

I run my spa at night for 30 mins and discovered I had a sticky actuator valve that was causing the spa to drain down into the pool, but this was after I had both, to be sure, check valves replaced. I also discovered the spa has 2 check valves in each primary within the spa. The new actuator...

    New Plaster Water Appearance Question

I added 1.5 gal of 8.25% bleach which raised FC from 1 to 5 last night. I just checked FC again this morning and FC is still 5. I've been leaning towards metal specifically copper. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    New Plaster Water Appearance Question

Hi all. We replastered our pool ~5 weeks ago. The water in the spa appears clear as well as the shallow end, but the deep end at 8' is cloudy and has a green tint. We did blue quartz. Here are my recent test values: TC=1; CH=325; pH=7.8; TA=70; CYA=30 (I think); Salt=3000; borates=15; 73*...

...this is why. Thankfully, I found this site last year and I doubt there's another pool in TW as great as mine! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    CSI Question

Agreed. I've been running my waterfall regularly trying to get the pH up too. I got a little carried away with the muratic acid. I chased my TA all summer last year so i was trying to avoid chasing my TA all summer again. I tested it last night with an old Leslie's kit and had TA of 130, so...

    CSI Question

A touch of panic, but yes, I always check the CSI row. I've noticed 2 areas of discoloration in the shallow end and near my drain. I wonder if the plaster corroded in those areas? This is my 2nd year on TFP, so I'm still a newb to this!

    CSI Question

Just tested my pool and thought my levels were good until I hovered over my CSI calc of -.36..."Potential to become corrosive to plaster" Say what? 24000 gallon pool, in ground, plaster, pebble tech pool deck, SWG, cartridge filter. What am I doing wrong here? Here are my levels: FC 5 CC...
