WHERE IS THE WATER GOING? Pool leaking only when filter is off

This may be a silly question ... But does that mean I hire a pool guy to come take a look at it? Is there anything a homeowner can do to try and figure out where the leak is if it's underground?

WHERE IS THE WATER GOING? Pool leaking only when filter is off

There are no air bubbles coming out of the returns. Also, no telltale water spots on the lawn or around the deck that would indicate where this water is going. Or coming from.

WHERE IS THE WATER GOING? Pool leaking only when filter is off

Hello, I have seen this issue addressed in other posts but not exactly like my situation. I have a vinyl lined inground pool, with a Hayward sand filter. I will lose about 3 inches overnight if we turn the filter off. If we leave the filter on all day and all night we don't lose anything. 3...

Should I purchase water or try to use water from my lake?

Hey everyone! Last year you all were so helpful to this newbie...we had bought a pool that hadn't been opened in years (and was filled with a thriving ecosystem of frogs, toads & salamanders!) and taught us how to clean, SLAM, and enjoy our watery hole in the ground. Thanks so much---I have...

OK...your response got me thinking (a dangerous place for me...) and we have some mystery pipes on my filter that I need to identify and label. You may be correct...I don't know because there are parts that I need help labeling. SOOO, if you all could help me figure this out, I would be most...

Has anyone ever tried this stuff? Any thoughts? http://www.amazon.com/Fix-Leak-Pool-Sealer-32/dp/B003K1E99Y/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 - - - Updated - - - Kim---they actually stirred up quite a bit more stuff than just running the filter! We had 2x as much stuff to vac this morning! I...

Last night: FC=7.5, CC=0 This morning: FC=6.5, CC=0 Water is clear, but the kids must have loosened up a bit of the stains/gunk because we had to vac up some junk. Here is the overnight water loss: We did the dye test, didn't see any leaks around the skimmer boxes. Which makes sense...when...

SLAM Day 16 FC 7.5 (it was at 10 last night, and we tested at 2 pm today) CC 1 pH 7.2 TA 60 CYA less than 20? I did the CYA test again using the suggested light behind me (hard to do at 2 pm). The solution was cloudy this time (not clear like before) but I could still see the dot all the way...

SLAM DAY 15 Sorry, i skipped posting yesterday. I have 2 issues to tackle: the water loss and the staining. For the water loss, we are losing about 2 inches every 24 hours. When we were doing the backwashing a few times everyday, we just assumed it was from that. But, it now appears we have a...

I would've taken you up on that offer! - - - Updated - - - Interesting thing happened today. Lost about 3 inches of water over a six hour period. Also had very low chlorine levels, which I was kind of surprised at. Wonder what happened? I did not backwash it all today, didn't have to. No...

SLAM DAY 13 Still had some algae clumped at the bottom this morning, so will keep slamming. But less than yesterday. Since the water is so clear, I am guessing that some of this gunk is coming off the sides? We have been brushing them every day to keep loosening the stains, but not sure that is...

Yes....lots of backwashing and refilling! At the beginning of the SLAM it was backwashing and rinsing 4 or 5 times a day. Now, it's only 1 or 2 times a day, but still have to refill about an inch or so a day. No rain and direct sun so we are also losing to evaporation. I'll retest tomorrow...

CYA test question: Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I added 5.5 lbs of CYA last week using the sock method (took about 5 days to dissipate, so it's only been completely dissolved for about 2 days). I did the CYA test, but the mixture is still crystal clear. So, the black dot never...
