Well, at least it's a cheap fix! We just went thru that. Got one at Lowe's for less than $10.

Tell her I dumped countless bottles of bleach into my pool for over two weeks and now it looks amazing. I know I used over 50 jugs. Of course it's poured in slow and smaller amounts so it didn't effect liner. I always pour in front of a return.

Hang in there. My SLAM took over two weeks this year.

Problem solved. Clump of yuck was stuck between pump basket and pump. Thanks!

I'm no expert. But when we opened our pool this year our gauge stayed up when the pump went off. Our gauge was bad. We had to get a new one.

Well the gauge is repaired. But I'm thinking it might be a prime issue. More bubbles in basket this morning and small bubbles coming out returns. Also I see air in the salt generator.

And it's definitely coming from the skimmer. I can put my hand in there and feel the lack of normal pressure.

Ok. Thanks. I will remedy the gauge tomorrow and report back. I was so busy with my SLAM, I wasn't worried about the gauge as I was back washing a lot. A blockage makes sense since I was using the vacuum. However, the floating hose when I went to pull from strainer was odd to me.

The only thing we didn't do was lube the o ring. Not sure how to do that.

So how do we get prime back?

We cleaned pump strainer basket and now there is very very little air in there. One teeny pocket at the top. We have an issue knowing psi as our gauge froze this winter and although I have purchased a new one, my dear husband has not replaced it.

Today I ran the vacuum and had an odd thing happen. I think I got too close to a main drain because it sort of felt like I got sucked in. Then when I went to remove hose from skimmer hole it was lose and basically floating. Now the skimmer has little suction and the returns aren't putting out...

Welcome! I just wanted to encourage you to take control of your own pool by following advice here. We just opened our pool on our own for the first time using the suggested methods here. It took over two weeks, but we have a sparkling pool and I know how to keep it that way.

Don't be bummed! This was my first pool opening on my own. I didn't count, but I promise we used over 40 jugs of bleach. And it took nearly three weeks. I never thought it would end, but it finally did. I have a crystal clear pool. But it took soooo much bleach.

Just finished a SLAM and I'm thinking my scenario was similar to yours. Pool was opened with nearly no CYA. It consumed bleach like crazy for days and days. Took 16-17 days to pass the criteria for SLAM to be over. So hang in there. Ammonia can be a pain!

I have to leave this pool basically unattended at day 21, so I'm hoping to finish before then. I didn't think it would take three weeks and I have to travel. Fingers crossed I pass OCLT tonight. Pool is looking good and holding FC during the day pretty well.

Just wanted to say you aren't alone. I've been slamming for 17 days and still have something eating up the FC.

Can you expand on this? I'm struggling with OCLT too.
