    Pool Heater and Elevation

Pool heater went out after many years of service. Looking to replace it with another natural gas unit. The previous unit was a RayPak 266 so I am plumbed and wired for that. Hangup is that I am at 3200 elevation and it seems the bulk of what I can find is for 0-2000 elevation. How big a deal is...

    pH Rising Non-Stop

Have a 15,000-gallon liner pool. Installed a new liner about 3 weeks ago. Since then, I am having to add 1/3 gallon of acid every day to keep the pH below 8.0. Is this something caused by the new liner--will it settle in over time? Before replacing the liner, I was adding acid about once every...

    New Vinyl Fill Questions

Replaced my liner on Thursday and now have my pool back full from the city water supply (15k gallons). Want to try to get my water correct from the start. Adding some CYA now, and have pH at 7.5. Chlorine is at 1 ppm I was going to add some baking soda to help buffer pH, but I just ran a...

    Vinyl Patch over Patch?

Had a small tear in my in-ground liner pool near the ladder last year. Installed a patch and was good to go. I have reason to believe that patch is leaking now though--the edges are coming up and I am losing some water. Can I install a new patch over the old one or is it best to pull off the old...

First time sand filter cleaning. Please help

Watched the video from a few years ago and read a few threads. But my filter appears to a little different from those in threads with the multiport valve mounted on top. My valve is mounted off to the side similar to this: I have owned my house for 4 years and have no idea if the sand filter...

    Changing Gasket Around Skimmer

I will be changing out the gasket(s) around my skimmer on my in-ground vinyl pool today. Any pro-tips? A few concerns I have: 1. Do I need to put some silicone on the faces of the gasket? 2. Do I replace the gasket on both sides of the vinyl? I ordered two gaskets. Do I need to use them both...

    The dreaded LEAK!!!

15,000 gallon, in-ground liner pool. Started noticing about a month ago that I was losing water. Filled a bucket to check against evaporation, and found that I am losing about three inches per week (and seems to be increasing). On Sunday, plugged my skimmer, vacuum port, and two returns. Did...

    CYA Testing Chemicals Gone Bad?

I have a two-year old testing kit I bought off this site. Been going through way too much bleach lately, so I tested CYA today. FC was a 4.5 CC was at .5 CYA was at 0 I guess. I filled the tube to the top and could still see the dot. Am I really out of CYA or did my testing chemicals go bad?

    Haven't shocked all year....

So I switched to the TFPC method this year and use a Stenner pump, etc. I have gone all summer with chemicals being in range and the pool being clear. As such, I have not shocked the pool in 2015. Is that a problem or should I just be glad that I don't need to mess with it. I guess my question...

    Stenner Pump tubing cracks

Installed a Stenner pump in the spring, and it has worked great---when working. About a month ago, I came home from vacation to find that the clear plastic tubing running from my tank to the pump had developed some cracks and the pump had lost suction. I figured the sun was degrading the...

    High limit Code Error

I have a Weslo Daybreak spa. I am getting an error code that is either S1 or E1 (display is difficult to read). From what I can tell, it is a high limit fault. Here is the deal. Everytime it faults, the spa shuts down and I have to flip the breaker off and on to get it running again...

    TFT100 Test Kit and Spa

I have a 300 gallon spa that I maintain with bromine tablets. I check bromine levels and Ph using the standard cheapo kits. I haven't checked CC ( I have just been refilling every few weeks). But can I use the TFT100 kit and actually check the CC like I do for my pool?

Switched to Bleach and now adding acid daily

So I finally got my CYA down and switched to a Stenner injection pump for bleach instead of Tri-Chlor pucks. The pump is working like a charm and keeping my FC at about 5. But now I am having to add about 16 oz of muriatic acid daily. Was hoping to not have to add chemical everyday. Is there...

    Stenner 45MHP10 flow settings FYI

Not complicated math, but I thought I may save somebody a few minutes by posting this. Here are the ounces of chemical the pump will inject per hour at the different settings. Determine how much chemical you need to maintain your FC daily, and then you can run your pump at the listed settings...

Drilling and tapping PVC to add injection point

My Stenner pump came in yesterday and now I am ready to install. I plan to tap into my return line somewhere downstream of my heater. My question is: should I tap into the PVC pipe or should I tap into a PVC fitting (90 or elbow)? The PVC fittings are thicker than just the pipe and therefore...

Lowered my CYA from 200 to 45

Bought a house with a pool last year and started trying to figure out how to keep the chemicals balanced. Took water in for testing and everywhere in town told me that CYA levels were part of some witchcraft science and to never worry about it. Started following this site and decided to get...

    Spa pump tripping breaker

Went out to get in the hottub last night and it wasn't so hot. Today found out that the breaker wouldn't reset. Unplugged things one at a time and found out that it seems to be the pump tripping the breaker. The pump motor shaft spins freely and I have no leaks. In fact, I changed out the wet...

    Liquidator vs. Injection Pump

CYA problem out of hand and am trying to get it corrected by going to liquid chlorine (bleach). I have decided I would like some automated system, and I have read enough here to know that the two main options seem to the Liquidator or a build using a Stenner pump. I have found that the...
