Update (April 2019): Hayward H300FDN Universal H-Series 300,000 BTU Pool and Spa Heater, Natural Gas, Low Nox has been outstanding. Existing Gas line had plenty of capacity - confirmed by local Gas Company tech on site. Overall, very pleased!

Hayward Pool Heater FAIL (with pic)--new Heat Exchanger Available?

Thanks folks - just confirmed my decision....I'll replace it with a bigger 300,000 BTU unit ($150 more compared to a 250,000 BTU unit).

Hayward Pool Heater FAIL (with pic)--new Heat Exchanger Available?

Well I had a major Hayward Heat Master 250 ED2 pool heater fail at the rear manifold (cast iron part) yesterday (cracked big time). This is a circa 1990s Hayward pool heater (I bought the property in 2011). Once i got all the screws out during disassembly here is what I saw (I laid everything...

Hayward HM250 ED2 Heater "BOOMing" on start up

Major cleaning effort did the job. Ignition and pilot light works like a charm. I even pulled off the exhaust vent and top then cleaned the copper tubes above the burner which had some major green corrosion and rusty metal pieces. I cleaned all the connections. The pilot light and ignition...

Changing Pro-Logic Panel after VSP to Dual Speed Pump

YOU ROCK Mark! That did it...I reconfigured AUX 2 (where I wired it) to FIlter Low Speed and then edited the "Group" as well. Still have not got the "filter" light to stop blinking but I'll tackle that tomorrow in the light. LOW speed is quiet! Checked my meter and in LOW it draws a little...

Changing Pro-Logic Panel after VSP to Dual Speed Pump

Ok..I'll check that. I think my AUX 1 is set to my pool light. Gotta go teach a class so will research that and execute in a few hours. I'll let you know if I have success....Thanks again for the QUICK responses!!

Changing Pro-Logic Panel after VSP to Dual Speed Pump

Mark, that does not sound familiar to me so probably no. When it's in "FILTER" its flashing telling me its going to low speed in x minutes once it times down I can hear a relay click but nada. Pump stops. If I push Filter again it comes on High no problem. Where do I configure the Low Speed...

Changing Pro-Logic Panel after VSP to Dual Speed Pump

Changed out a Haward VSP to a Hayward dual speed pump. The Pump runs great and really moves the water. It was wired per the Pro-Logic book....http://edc.poolsupplyworld.com/wpdf/plps-manual.pdf page 14 Top of the page. I went into the "Config" pages to change to the new pump "2-Speed" but I...

Hayward HM250 ED2 Heater "BOOMing" on start up

Got on issue with my pool heater. When the command is sent to start I can hear the ignitor clicking away but it does not "fire" up like normal. After awhile it will go BOOM igniting all the gas from start. Any ideas?

    Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP versus SP3400VSPVR

Yea, I plan to go with the Hayward SP32202EE TriStar 2 HP, 2-Speed Pump. Good catch it will swap out easily without touching the wet plumbing end (baskets are the same). Its $980 on Amazon. I'll have to rewire the panel with the new motor wires but should be no big thang. I plan to take...

    Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP versus SP3400VSPVR

Just some info as I replace my Hayward SP3400VSP. Most Pool places around here suggest (for a VSP anyway) the Pentair Intelliflo 2 VST (PI 2 VST) another Variable Speed Pump. My research has confirmed Intelliflo has similar pump failures like the SP3400 but not as many as far as my research...

    Hayward EcoStar SP3400VSP versus SP3400VSPVR

Look up the reviews on the Hayward Ecostar VSP and VSPVR. I've had mine right at four years and it is now useless....just failed last weekend. These pumps have a control panel that internally fail quite frequently. I guess I am blessed it went 4 years. My last single speed pump lasted 15...

    Replacing SPA Light

I've got a 120V SPA light that keeps tripping my GFCI on the ProLogic Panel. Drained the SPA and for kicks replaced the light bulb - yep, still no light. I pulled out the stainless housing and checked/inspected the light housing and saw a little rust near the cable outlet at the back of the...

Hayward HM250 ED2 Heater - "REMOTE" wiring to Pro Logic ?

Ok, I'll interrupt the TR to Pressure switch line (W wire) and run two wires to the Pro Logic panel. Looks like a pretty easy "in-series" wiring diagram. Done. I disconnected the wires between the two, ran two to the Pro Logic Panel and walah. Works perfect! Now I control my Heater by the...

New Pool Build with Grotto/Slide/Waterfall- Temecula, Ca

I've owned three houses with pools now. One thing I'm amazed with is where the skimmers are located. In my current house the skimmer is on the opposite end of where all the surface debris collects during windy days and storms. So, regardless of pool pump operation during windy stormy days I...

Hayward HM250 ED2 Heater - "REMOTE" wiring to Pro Logic ?

New to this great site full of info. Question. I'm trying to "remotely" wire my old Hayward HM250 Pool Heater into my Pro Logic panel. I've found plenty of manuals but nothing specific on where the terminal block is located inside the heater or a pic on what terminal posts to use on the...
