Turn off SWG when shock pool?

Well, we mostly shocked bc of the rain. This might be a dumb question but shouldn't you shock 1x week anyway?

Turn off SWG when shock pool?

Hi all I am trying to figure out if I should turn off SWG when shocking my pool. Pool was fine and balanced but we had a big rainstorm last night and it's been VERY hot so I shocked this morning. My question is, if I run the filter for 24 hours, should I turn my SWG off for 24 hours as well? In...

    CYA and SLAM

Opened pool 2-3 weeks ago- first time it opened green. Got it clean within a 2-3 days, everything seemed fine but started to notice small amounts of green algae here and there; and off and on slipperiness. And then this past week, we lost 3-4 PPM of chlorine overnight and I knew we had a...

How long until FC comes down after shock/slam?

Wow you have a lot of jets. We have 1 in shallow and 1 in deep- angled right. My husband had them tilted up such that it was creating bubbles on top of water (because he likes the bubbles) but I made him angle them lower... you can still see the flow of water though. I could see how having...

How long until FC comes down after shock/slam?

Yes it does help! That to me makes the most sense- turn off the SWG. My husband is too afraid to let me totally turn off SWG so I have it down to 50% so ours will probably take a little longer to come back down. But now I know it will take a few days to maybe even a week.

How long until FC comes down after shock/slam?

I just went in, the liner is def less slippery- no slipping, "drier" feeling. I am convinced that when the liner is slippery, regardless of numbers and water clarity, there is probably some sort of something going on. Some things in life are a mystery I guess..... :x Thanks for the help!

How long until FC comes down after shock/slam?

Right, right, right... the SWG is doing all the dosing. I forget that people still have to manually add chlorine to their pool. It's the bottom of my pool that is slippery. My neighbor who has the exact same pool, installed at the same time, their liner is not slippery on the bottom so that...

How long until FC comes down after shock/slam?

Ok my CYA is at 50 which is where it was prior to shocking/slamming. I haven't really tested for anything else other than FC/CC which is 15. I know I should have gotten to 20... My pool was actually good number-wise prior to slamming (FC 6, CC 0, CYA 50, TA 90, PH 7.4, CH 80- Running filter...

How long until FC comes down after shock/slam?

I was curious to know how long FC levels stay at slam/shock level- meaning how long does it take to have the FC come back to normal levels? Also, once I passed the OCLT, do I return my SWG back to the levels I had it previously (85%)? In my small little head, I feel like if I turn my SWG back...

Tested water with new Taylor K-2006- help with results

Wonderful. Thank you for the replies! This is def going to take time for me to truly comprehend how all the moving pieces fit together. And yes, my neighbor has a vinyl liner just like ours, installed the same week, and his pool is not slippery at all so that is why I started to become...

Tested water with new Taylor K-2006- help with results

Nevermind- I actually think I figured out the answer to the question myself. I will do an OCLT test this evening after the SWG turns off. That should tell me if I need to SLAM. I think I am FINALLY getting this... or least I feel like I am getting it.

Tested water with new Taylor K-2006- help with results

Ok so I went back and re-did some of the tests just to take out user error since it had been the first time using. Here is what I got consistently: FC 6 CC 0 (no change in color) TC 6 PH 7.6 (just added 2 lbs of dry acid in 1 hour intervals- 1 pd per hour) Alkalinity- 90 CYA 40 Should I still...

Tested water with new Taylor K-2006- help with results

Oh my gosh, I thought of one last thing. What if I have my SWG chlorine output up too high thusly making my FC high? I had it on 85-90%. Should I back off of the percentage before I SLAM to see if that is why my FC and CC is on the high side? Won't SLAMing just make the FC and CC higher...

Thanks for all the responses. I do have one last question- what is the reasoning for turning off SWG when SLAMing?

Tested water with new Taylor K-2006- help with results

Thanks for responses. I did read SLAM but I still don't understand the steps needed. I am not sure how to get my readings to where they need to be. So far, I understand that I need to lower PH. If I add the MA, how long do I have to wait to SLAM after adding MA? Then after lowering PH to...

Tested water with new Taylor K-2006- help with results

I recently purchased the Taylor K-2006 test as I do not entirely trust the kids at the PS reading my water. I am new to owning a pool as of 2015 so I still feel unsure of numbers and where I truly need to be. I have read pool school but sometimes all the info is overwhelming and is easier to...

    Skunk in pool

Thank you! That makes sense completely. How did Sparkle know my CC was high based on the numbers I gave? Total Chlorine between 3-5, Free chlorine 1-2. I am going to purchase the TF-50 for next years use bc won't come in time to straighten out my current situation, in the meantime, I need to...

    Skunk in pool

What is combined chlorine mean? Or having bad combined chlorine? Do you mean my total chlorine is too high? Heading back to pool school.... <sigh> I ran the super chlorinate overnight because frankly, I am still freaked out. It is almost like I could care less at this point what my numbers...

    Skunk in pool

Thanks... My husband was so upset not for us but the skunk! Finding a dead animal in my pool is my biggest fear... We have had the pool for 1 season so I know this is something that happens periodically. It's just awful. Thanks for the home remedy... You know, since my PH is a little low- I...

    Skunk in pool

My husband found a skunk in our pool a few days ago. He didn't tell me until I started saying, "Gosh, there must be a skunk in our yard because it's been smelly lately." So he ended up confessing that he uncovered the pool on Wednesday and was horrified to find a dead skunk under the solar...

    Winter Cover Vs. Safety Cover

I am sure this topic is thrown around a lot esp around this time of year when those in the NE are getting ready to close in a month. We just had an IG installed this year- 18x36 rectangular. I feel a little hung over by the amount of $$ we ended up spending (of course everything is more than...

    Numbers seem low?

The pool pretty much gets full sun daily. We cover the pool in the evening and take off anytime between 9am-11am. What is the theory in splitting up the run time of filter? I am intrigued. I have noticed that our pool will periodically get more slippery at times. We haven't scrubbed a...

    Numbers seem low?

Thanks for the quick responses. Yes- I do think he did a drop test not a digital one. I got a digital printout but I saw him dropping stuff into the water and then looking visually at the beaker (excuse my ignorance). We are running the pump from 9-6 everyday. To raise the FC, should I just...

    Numbers seem low?

Don't know if I am over analyzing things. Pool seems and has been fine all summer. Just installed June 2015- 24,000 gallon SWG vinyl liner. I Have had to add this summer so far: stabilzer 1x at the beginning, salt 1x, PH 2x, and shock 2x. Was away for 2 days and when got home checked pool...

Bad Storm- losts of dirt/debris in pool- HELP!

How do you raise FC? We have SWG and I can raise the chlorine to any number (0-99) and then go into super-chlorinate mode. I haven't tested the pool yet but I am not sure how to raise FC... is that just a matter of raising the chlorine on the SWG panel? I have been reading the pool school...

Bad Storm- losts of dirt/debris in pool- HELP!

Just had an 18x36 IG liner pool installed last week. It is salt water chlorinated and uses DE filtration (Hayward). We had a very bad storm here this evening.. tornado watches in Pennsylvania! Of course we are in the middle of a massive landscape project- dirt all around outside of concrete...
