    pool plaster question

I am asking for my husband who thinks this is a good idea (and I think it is a terrible idea)... Our pool is CLOSE to needing to be replastered. We are thinking about selling the whole property and hate to put money into real plaster and are afraid the "almost" state of the pool will severely...

    slam vs shock

Thank you! I had completely forgotten about the OCLT. Duh! That's what happens when you only use the pool 10 weeks a year (and when you're old! HaHa) Thank you! That makes sense and it's what I was thinking (and hoping). But I keep forgetting from one year to the next.

    slam vs shock

I understand the difference between slam and shock, but I have 2 related questions. If everything looks good, do I need to slam? Is it a good idea no matter what? Also, if I do not slam, do I need to raise the chlorine to the level I want to keep it at (usually 4-5) or should I raise chlorine...

    Old AquaLogic RS6 problem

Thank you so much. Unfortunately we had a medical emergency this week and have had to go out of state and leave the pool to my daughter and her husband. I told her to just keep it on the service setting and watch it closely. I’ll deal with it when I return. Thanks again.

    Old AquaLogic RS6 problem

Yesterday our old (2004) Aqua Logic RS67 control panel started acting crazy, came on "by itself", started flashing random lights including an air blower for the SPA while the POOL was on and a cleaner pump which we NEVER use because we don't have a cleaner. I followed the manual and reset the...

    DE powder in pool

Could you please explain what is a "screen inside the bleed tube"? Thanks for your help.

    DE powder in pool

By the way, this has been going on for 3 weeks (while waiting for replacement rings) and 35 pounds of DE powder which is why I really need to figure Out the right way to handle this. Thanks again.

    DE powder in pool

We have been getting DE powder in the pool ... probably because of a suction leak which we are now tracing. But my question is: when vacuuming out the DE powder, should we vacuum to waste? My husband said no, and so after vacuuming he backwashed “so the DE powder would not return”, and then we...

    SIMPLE question: pump basket

    Thank you SO MUCH!!

    SIMPLE question: pump basket

My real question involves possible air leaks and problems with self priming. I may ask those in a follow up. But for now... simply... is there supposed to be any visible (air) movement in the pump basket or should it be almost hard to even see that there is water in there in the first place...

    pool spa combo closing question

I was asking about the valve to the bottom right of the heater in the picture. It closes the return from the skimmer and the main drain. Sorry, but I do not understand what you mean by the PUMPS in the back.

    pool spa combo closing question

We have always had a pool service open and close our pool/spa. This year (today actually!) they did not show up for their appointment. They are not answering phones and won't be in the office for at least two days. Everyone else is so booked out. Now hubby is scrambling with trying to figure...

    Pool Opening Chemistry

Thank you so much for such quick responses. So quick that I did not have time to read them before the pool people came. They did add algaecide, but I will not let that happen again!! I am going to give the pool another hour or two and then test more. My water temperature is 51. Will that...

    Pool Opening Chemistry

Moved from here. Can I piggy-back on this question... On opening (part 1) of my pool yesterday I also had a 0 CYA reading (fine in fall). I also had a 30 reading on TA so I added baking soda and brushed. Today someone is coming to actually start up the pump etc. My plan is to add acid to bring...

Spa draining and filling on its own

Thanks so much for your suggestions. We checked what you said and everything was ok. And just now we watched as it transitioned from pool to spa without incident. Hopefully it was a fluke, but now I will know what to look for if there is a future problem.

Spa draining and filling on its own

Yesterday I put the spa on spa fill in order to run the waterfall. (I first had to turn it off automatic and onto service mode.) The valves (don’t know which ones) made a lot of hissing sounds and the pressure rose like 7-8 pounds. Then it would be ok for 30 seconds and then repeat. The spa was...

    random questions about SLAM

I been slamming my pool for the last couple of days because of chlorine loss. (Pool is clear and CC is .5) Today I have to be gone most of the day. Can I use my SWG to keep the level up somewhat so that the FC doesn't drop too much? I have been testing at night around 6 (weather is very...

    algae or just dirty

Sorry about that. In my head it was clear, but now I see that it was not clear on paper. I am failing the OCLT test. Both in the CC sometimes being 1- and in the FC drop which has been between 2-4 ppm.

    algae or just dirty

When the pool store guys opened the pool they immediately threw in 2.5 gallons of "shock". I tested and found CYA to be 0. I then added too much (mistake #1) and the CYA went to 45. I then started to add chlorine to get the level to 18. (Mistake #2 was not testing and balancing pH). Although I...

    algae or just dirty

So frustrated that I cannot show picture, but I continue to have bad numbers as I try to open my pool (water looks great, but I keep failing SLAM!) Could my problem be my skimmer? It is blackish around the waterline and slightly below and does not come "clean" with the scrubbing I have done so...

    always SLAM at opening?

This is my third year at this whole pool thing. Each season I begin to figure things out, then it's fall and I forget EVERYTHING the next year! The pool guys opened my pool and poured in 2 1/2 gallons of "shock". Now I wish that I had tested beforehand, but... So after this "shock", my FC was...
