Will Heat Make PVC Glue Release?

I need to replace a leaky piece of PVC flex pipe. It's glued to a PVC stub connector and I've got no room to trim either pipe & place a new connector. Can I use a heat gun to heat up the flex pipe and pull it off the connector stub it's glued to? Thanks!

    Hayward SP0714T Multiport Leaking

My multiport valve was leaking so I replaced the spider gasket. Still leaking. What now? Replace the diverter only, or the key, cover, and handle assembly? Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Polaris Feed Hose Too Stiff???

My 380 is about 20 years old. I've tuned it up more than once w/ the Tune-Up Kit. It's been working better than ever this year, mostly when the heater's on. But, with the pool temp over 80, I'm not running the heater lately. 380 had a couple of leaking swivels, so I replaced 2 this year. Now...

    Polaris 380/280 Back-up Valve Case

Just got a new back-up valve case. Has anybody figured out something to do to make the case nut easier to unscrew? Maybe painting the threads with pool lube when assembling the case? Why do I have a new case? The back-up valve failed at the end of last season. I ordered just the valve and spent...

    Polaris 380 Running Half-Speed

Help! I'm getting about 16 RPM. I've checked all the obvious things: Polaris booster pump rebuilt at the start of this season. Seems to be running OK. Cleaned in-line filter. Backup valve backs up & shuts off completely. Took the cover off & everything looks OK; all hoses connected. Seems to...

    Posting Pics & Imgs

Just to confirm that I understand what I've read here on the forum, we can't post pics that are only hosted on our own harddrives. Pics have to live somewhere on the internet (like photobucket) before we can include them in a post here on TFP. Right? Something similar, I guess, applies to...

    Patching Polaris Bags

Anybody know a way to patch Polaris bags? These are the bags for my Polaris 380 pressure side cleaner. Small holes, maybe aspirin tablet size, or short tears/rips, maybe half-an-inch. Thanks!

LED Floodlights - Not in Pool

I'm currently using 2 500W halogen floodlights to illuminate the backyard around the patio & pool. These are the typical lights you can buy at HD for $30 or so. One's mounted on the house, the other on the shed. I use them a lot, so I'd like to find a solution that uses a bit less...

    Polaric 380 Back-Up Valve - Repairable?

Polaris was working fine until the back-up valve case cracked. Strange place to crack - the nut holding the smaller half to the larger half cracked around the whole nut and the threaded part of the larger half cracked directly under that. The crack was through the whole case and almost all the...

    Non-Pool: Help! Google search hijacked??

Just noticed this while searching for "Florida +pool service" (without the italics) - Google only returned about 1,000 results. That didn't seem right. So I searched same w/ Bing - 73,000,000 results. Now that seems right. Any ideas? Running an anti-spyware app now, but it ran this morning...

Leaves in Polaris 380 In-Line Filter

I'm getting leaf debris in my in-line filter. It's not unusual to get bits of grit, like grains of sand, trapped in the filter. This year, though, I'm getting relatively large bits of leaves, debris that I think should be trapped by the pool filter. Lately, the in-line filter needs to be...

    Polaris 380 - All 3 Wheels Powered?

I know it sounds like a silly question, but I can't tell from the manual or by searching. My 380 isn't quite as efficient as in previous years. When I pick it up to count the wheel rotations, the single wheel turns at about 28 RPM. The rear wheel on the 2-wheel side turns about the same, but...

    Suction Leak? My version....

Read through a similar post and I determined that I clearly have a suction side leak, with air bubbling out of all of the returns. So, somewhere between the skimmer and the impeller, air is getting into the system. I've been pretty systematic and figured out where it isn't by process of...

    CaCl Costs

I need to bring my calcium hardness up from 150 into the suggested range. Any ideas about the cheapest way to buy calcium chloride or calcium chloride dihydrate? My favorite pool supply catalog has 25 lbs. for $45. Thanks!

    Caulk for the Coping/Patio Joint

Gotta redo that joint. My bullnose brick coping abuts a concrete patio. Total distance around my irregularly shaped pool is about 140 feet. I'd like to make this a DIY job, since the pool guys in my area charge $10 per linear foot for recaulking. What product should I use? The joint is...

    Low CH Causing Cloudiness???

I'm having a long-term problem with cloudy water, especially noticeable in the deep end (9 feet deep). It started last season and is continuing into this year. Could a low calcium hardness value be the cause? Here's why I ask - In 1978, my first job out of college was managing a community...

    Skimmer Sock in Filter Basket?

Can I use a skimmer sock in my filter basket to catch some very fine debris? Not permanently, but only while vacuuming? It's been about 3 weeks since I opened the pool. Water is almost completely clear, with just a bit of cloudiness in the deep end. The filter isn't catching some very fine...

    Reliable Pool Service in NoVA

Got any ideas? I was lucky to find Cox Pools when I moved here in 1994. Rob was a reputable guy, hired competent staff, and stood by his work. Sadly, he moved on to bigger and better things a few years ago. Since then, I haven't found a competent, reliable, and reasonably expensive outfit...

    Pilot Light Won't Stay Lit

Subject line pretty much says it all. I've got a Teledyne/Laars/Jandy Lite2â„¢ Pool and Spa Heater Model LG (natural gas). Following the instructions that are printed on the heater, the pilot lights, but won't stay lit when the gas control knob is released from the "pilot" position. Anything...

Sand Filter Replacement - What Size?

Well, my Hayward filter self-destructed yesterday - it blew out along about a 10 inch crack about a third of the way down from the top. Looks like a catastrophic pressure vessel failure! My question is, how big a filter do I need to replace it with? The label on the old one long since became...
