Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Ocean State Job Lot in South Plainfield, Clinton, and Freehold NJ (may have other locations) has 12.5% for $6. It may be less expensive for the 8.25% at other places, but one must figure this out. They used to be $3 per gallon. Welcome to Inflation!

Modified Cover for Hayward Super Pump for Closing Swimming Pool

There are some on line places that sell them. It is really worth the money or the headache. You may make $20 if you are lucky, then you have shipping, collection of monies, etc. Not worth the time IMHO.

    Pool Closing-Where to Buy

Be careful if ordering on Amazon. It may have been a returned item. I had an issue with a small jack and fought with the company out of warranty and they sent me a replacement unit (which I have to fix). It is best to deal with a reputable online pool supplier. Sometimes, they have them on...

    Pool Closing-Where to Buy

There are many pool places on line. The shipping is the factor. Try Pool Zoom as they ship for free over $50. It all depends on what size plugs you need. Maybe ask a neighbor or friend to borrow them. I like the #10 plugs as they are snug around the outside. I also use the # 11 plugs for the...

    Cyclone Blower

This thread is hard to follow. What I will recommend is to drain the water below the skimmer (1"). Then suction the water out of the skimmer(s) with a wet vac. If the main drain and skimmer are linked together, then use the air hose from the Cyclone and push the air and water toward the...

Attention Canadians - time to switch from natural gas heaters to heat pumps?

Wayner: I have no idea why I can see the thread, but can see what you wrote in the e-mail. I guess Gas prices are through the roof in Canada. I am merely stating that you can never heat up the pool in 60-degree weather, maybe even low 70s to 85 degrees in enough time with a heat pump. Gas is...

Attention Canadians - time to switch from natural gas heaters to heat pumps?

Wayner: The only thing I can tell you from having a heat pump is that it takes quite a long time to heat up your pool. Another problem you are going to have whether you have a heat pump or NG heater is overnight heat loss. In NJ, we are getting very cool nights. The heat pump this week has been...

Replacement steps for an inground ladder

It is in pieces. I checked the last step of the ladder and there is nothing to identify what it is made of. This ladder is showing the correct measurements. The one on Amazon is stating made in the USA of high-quality plastic. The less expensive one in its description is showing ABS type of...

    Pool Start-up Question

Jeremy, If you have a mesh cover, purchase small tarps and lay them over the mesh, and space them out, support them so they do not blow away. You must bring up the pool to SLAM level before closing and your CC should be .5 or less. I have a friend who this year forgot to place the tarps on and...

Replacement steps for an inground ladder

I have to replace only the white steps (3 of them) on my ladder. One is still perfectly fine, which is the bottom one, but the middle and top steps just snapped off. They lasted about 9 years. There are a lot of options. For anyone who has replaced steps, which ones did you purchase? There are...

    water bag alternatives

You keep your pool full over the winter? And add chemicals all winter? And run your pump in winter? Because water evaporates under the solid tarp cover, and then water accumulates over the cover, I use a pump attached to a hose and pump it back under the cover. Rain water lowers PH so I add...

    water bag alternatives

The water bags lasted 2 seasons and the ones that were not damaged I gave away. Luckily, I was able to purchase the Acqua Blocks at a reasonable cost years ago, because now they are triple the cost. I personally filled by blocks with concrete, put the tops on and used tie straps to hold them in...

    Cellulose Fiber Clear conversion

With a Sand Filter, the Fiber Clear should sit on top of the sand, but it is a fine soft powder, so it may get mixed up inside the sand, not sure. I know that is does not come back into the pool because I had shut off one side of the 8 returns at one point (4 of them) and close the 2 step...

    Cellulose Fiber Clear conversion

I was merely suggesting and recommending based on my experience with Fiber Clear on a Sand Filter. I have no experience with a DE Filter. If the Cellulose falls of the DE Grids, would it not kick back dirt back in the pool, or would it stick to the Cellulose, and does DE stay on the grids...

How do you push foam rope into main drain line for winterizing???

Lines usually run straight down, or have a slight curve. Push down with your fingers as far as you can go. Even if some sticks out, that is fine. A bottle of antifreeze in the skimmer housing is also recommended if not using a Gizmo.

    Cellulose Fiber Clear conversion

I would not recommend fiber clear, but DE for a DE Filter. For a Sand Filter, 200%. It really makes a difference in the clarity of the water. I backwash 3X per season at most during the season. Initial startup and closing another time.

    Summer waves pump lid leak

Michelle & Mike, please specify exactly where the leak is. Is it at the pump, or the pump basket. My pump can leak at the 4 bolts with the washers, or at the lid where the gasket sits. You can use the Teflon lube at the lid gasket, and if at the bolts, then they may need to be tightened.

    Nature2 cartridge?

I looked at the unit on line, and this is new to the industry, I guess. It appears that they are coming up with ways where you have to purchase the replacment, etc. If you can not empty the system, then operate the cell only. Eventually the metals should dissolve (I assume), if that is the...

    Nature2 cartridge?

If the system needs the cartridge to operate with the salt system, then I would most definitely empty the cartridge out. The cartridge should have the metals inside. Short term, I do not believe this will do any harm. I used mine for 6 months and then left it empty when I switched to liquid...

    Nature2 cartridge?

You can leave the cartridge empty in the plumbing, as this will do no harm. However, how do you have a Salt Pool, which should come with an SWG and board, and still have a Nature 2 system, which contains metals. I had the frog at one point, but removed the system, and placed a chlorinator in...

Jandy HP Plus pump - adapter for cyclone blower

Search "Modified Cover" in the forum. Things have been moved around. You also can purchase a small hand saw. Once you get the saw in, after the holes, you can easily work with the plastic. Some other members have shown the actual tools needed as well. I gave mine to a friend and they did it at...

Jandy HP Plus pump - adapter for cyclone blower

Dphanes: It is really not that difficult to create your own cover. My thread will provide you with the parts needed. You just have to then cut the circle out. You literally could draw the circle and drill small holes all the way around it, and then pop it out, or use a small saw. It does not...

    Plugging lines

LED Light winterization...I need a sanity check here

Toronto's weather is different than NJ, or even NY. Draining 12" below the lights in a Vinyl Pool may not be the best idea. I would call the builder and light manufacturer to get more information. If water freezes, it should expand, but I can not tell you if the freezing water will damage the...

    Winterization Plugs

I had those plugs and they leaked. This does not mean that water is entering back in. I feel that in regular winter plugs (#10), there is some residual air from where the threaded part starts inside, and technically a plug has sealed on the inside and outside, but there is that small gap. Once...

    Winterization Plugs

The key to the Gizzmo's is to remove old Teflon Tape, add new tape, and slowly thread them in, as to not cross-thread them. They are of inexpensive quality. The pool we just closed, the Gizzmo was so bad, we installed a # 10 plug and called it a day. Would not go in properly.

    Use of Antifreeze in Closing

Antifreeze in the skimmer lines is fine, and not needed in the main drain. There is room for expansion on the main drains. I doubt water will freeze 6' to 8'. The skimmers, depending on the area is recommended as well. There is latent heat in the ground 3' to 4' deep. Most pipes crack...
