Nope. This used a twist cap.

Hayward sand filter drain plug leaking

The drain plug on my Hayward sand filter was leaking. Teflon tape and plumbers dope wouldn't fix it. The solution was to epoxy a 1" threaded female coupler and then use a 1" plug. Everything was available at LowesDepot for less than $10. It was a fairly easy fix once I figured out what to do.

    A.O. Smith UST-1102 replacement parts

Ok... Tried that. They say that a new pump is cheaper. Lol.

    A.O. Smith UST-1102 replacement parts

I took apart a UST-1102 pump to try to replace the bearings. Unfortunately, a few of the bolts broke and it may be impossible to get them out. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement bell end, thru bolts, and the flange that sits behind the front bearing and is bolted into...

How do I install a drain safety cover

I could bond the safety cover to the existing drain cover but I would like to have a way to secure it down. Worst case, I could probably get a diver to drill some holes and epoxy some screw sleeves in.

How do I install a drain safety cover

I have an old Anthony Sylvan inground plaster pool with a 5 1/2" main drain opening. The drain cover is seated on a lip on the drain opening and there are some tabs on the underside of the drain cover that hold it in place through friction. There aren't any screw holes. How can I install a...

Main drain - what is this?

The main drain does not have a hydrostatic valve. The pool has 2 hydrostatic plugs which look like this - http://blog.poolcenter.com/designdocuments/hydrostatic-relief-plugs.JPG The perforated pipe was clearly coming out of the suction line that connects to the side of the main drain.

Main drain - what is this?

I closed my pool today. In doing so, I blew the main drain line out using a compressor. This usually causes the main drain cover to come off because it is not physically fastened down. When I looked into the main drain, I saw a piece of plastic pipe sticking into the main drain cavity from...

Need help retrofitting new main drain cover

Ok. So just stick a glob of epoxy to the inside of the drain and drill into it once it cures. Sounds easy enough. I have one floor drain and one skimmer. The pool was built by Anthony Sylvan in 1965.

I guess that I'm asking how I would use epoxy to create screw holes.

Need help retrofitting new main drain cover

My plaster inground pool has simple 5 1/2" main drain cover that stays in place using friction. There aren't any screw holes. My wife wants to replace the cover with one of the newer style covers that won't kill the kids. My problem is that I'm going to need to have some place to screw the...

    Innefective bleach?

FC is 5 again this evening. I'm going to up the CYA to 60 and try to maintain a 6-8 FC. That should work nicely.

    CYA test results

Just curious why everyone says that you shouldn't test CYA for a week after adding it.

    CYA test results

But not the opposite... CYA is dissolved and registering but not working.

    CYA test results

When you dissolve CYA in water, does it actually start working right away or does it take time to start working? What does the CYA test measure? Based on the answer to the first question, is it possible to measure CYA in the water that isn't working?

    Innefective bleach?

FC is 5 this evening. I added 60oz of bleach and I'll measure tomorrow evening. I'm going to see if I can maintain my pool like last year. If my FC usage is more than 60oz per day, then I'm going to increase my CYA a bit to slow down consumption. I don't mind maintaining a higher FC level if...

    Innefective bleach?

So, at some point it will level off? I would expect to see it at 8 tomorrow evening? I'm wondering if I should bump my CYA up to 60 or 80 to minimize FC loss. I understand that I need to maintain a higher FC but that doesn't seem like a problem.

    Innefective bleach?

Large FC drop during the day Here's my current test results: FC 11 TC 11 PH 7.5 TA 90 CH 260 CYA 45 Last night, I shocked the pool to FC=20. This morning, I had FC=20. OCLT good. During the day, I seem to have lost a lot of FC. What's going on? Should I add more CYA? I think that I have...

    Innefective bleach?

Overnight FC loss was negligible if any. My startup went extremely well this year so I was expecting to get right on the same schedule as last year. If extra chlorine is required at startup to get everything going, then that would be a reasonable explanation. I'll test every night to figure...

    Innefective bleach?

I'm going to shock the pool because I won't be using it until next weekend at the earliest. The sun is down and FC is 20. We'll do another test in the morning. Thanks.

    I'll give that a try.

    Innefective bleach?

I know that. Last season, I would use 1/3 of a 182oz jug each night. That would keep my FC constant. This worked for the entire season. This season, it's not. Is it the old bleach or could it be something else?

    Innefective bleach?

I opened my pool on Saturday and it didn't take long to get everything balanced nicely: FC 4 CC 0 PH 7.5 TA 90 CH 260 CYA 45 Then, last night, I added 60oz of clorox which was the correct amount to keep my pool balanced all last summer. This afternoon, I was down to 3 FC. I'm using bleach...
