    Daily FC Loss

If your CYA is at least 100, your minimum FC is 8. Letting it get below that is just asking for problems. You may need to SLAM and then try and keep your FC above 8.

Zero CYA and FC but want to SLAM

I found the SDS for the Pool Mate Black Algaecide on Home Depot's website. It's odd the manufacturer does not have this information on their website. The SDS does not give more information other than what's on the label, so we don't know what the "other ingredients" are. But the main...

Zero CYA and FC but want to SLAM

I actually wouldn't put any CYA in at this point. You do not know if you have bacteria in your water that could consume the CYA you would be adding which would lead to a really large chlorine demand. Also, you said you had dumped in super shock and algaecide. Do you know how much you added...

Purple Blackish Stains at bottom of pool surface

What are you using to test your water? Saying 3-5 ppm sounds like the results from a test strip.

    Drained and cleaned pool...

That's normal. You have cold groundwater (well) plus humid air which equals condensation on the pipes. Same as you would would get on the outside of a glass of ice water.

    Problem with SLAM

Just a question. When adding your chlorine to get to the SLAM level and performing the OCLT, are you testing again after the addition or just the following morning? Reading your posts, it seems like you test and add to get to the target and that's it until the next day. Maybe you're not really...

Should we do a partial drain and fill?

You used 200 drops performing the DPD chlorine test? When you added the DPD powder to your water sample, did it turn purple at all?

    Winter Cover Confusion

I do what you do when I close - drain water below skimmer, inflate pillow, cover and use the ratchet the cable around the pool. However, I do periodically drain the water that collects on the cover around the pillow.

    Who's Still Swimming in Maryland?

I swam yesterday (Sunday) in NJ. The water was 72, which is surprising this time of year. A little brisk but refreshing.

    PH Meter

I use a similar foreign-made pH meter and I find it comparable to the color block test. Sometimes I have trouble distinguishing the different shades of red and the digital meter helps confirm my findings. I do find I have to calibrate it every season though.

    Yellow/Mustard Algae?

I've been having a similar issue with the SLAM target FC. My CYA is 30 and it's saying to go to 16. When I tap the arrow to go back to the apps home screen and then go into the FC and check the SLAM target, it shows 12. One of the updates end of July beginning of August was supposed to have...

SOS - White-foamed due to use of HDX Germicidal Bleach

Hi nearby neighbor! I also started getting my liquid chlorine at Ocean State Job Lot. I think the closest one is in South Plainfield in the Middlesex Mall. Cheapest price and fresh!

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

I think @bjsbuds is shocking for mustard algae. That would explain the 24 ppm.

Clear Blue Water but still new algae everyday

You really need to test your CYA again. If you're at 30, you're just wasting bleach. Take a step back for a moment and stop adding bleach until you test CYA.

New Algae Growth When I Don't Think It Should Be There

Could be it, but how would you get the 0.5 FC if you didn't divide. Test again and see.

New Algae Growth When I Don't Think It Should Be There

The only thing I can think of is that your pool volume is incorrect.

    Are these iron stains?

I opened my pool this weekend and decided I would attempt to tackle the iron staining. I opened on Sunday, May 14 and the water looked pretty good. It even had 3 ppm of chlorine left (I closed with 12 ppm). pH was 7.2 and my TA was 70. After adding some water and starting up the filter, my...

    Are these iron stains?

I tested my fill water and no iron registered on the test. So I'm leaning towards the rocks I have in the weight in the stairs. Next spring I plan on addressing the staining in the pool. Does this sound like a plan? Upon opening and adding enough fill water, I'll make sure the pH is ~7.2...

    Are these iron stains?

Thanks for the replies. There's no exposed dirt around the pool. Surrounding the pool is pea stone and beyond that for 2/3 of the pool is a patio and grass for the remaining 1/3. I'll test the water from the outdoor faucet I use to fill the pool after work today.

    Are these iron stains?

Hello everyone. I have an above ground oval pool with a vinyl liner with a DE filter. I switched to the TFP method about 3 years ago. Prior to the TFP method, I was constantly fighting algae and shocking the pool with bags of shock from the pool store at least every week. Now that I've taken...

Concerned about angle of Hayword Skimmer Intex rectangular pool

Lisbeck's skimmer looks like it's mounted lower than yours, so I don't know how much "skimming" it will do with the water level above the opening. I guess it just looks weird to me at that angle.

Yeah, that won't work right at that angle.
