I need to replace my pool light. It's an inground light with the cord that runs about 50 feet. Just replacing the bulb isn't an option as the housing and cover plate are beyond repair. The cheapest replacement options I can find are a llittle over $200. Does that sound about right and does...
The motor recently failed. I had a friend help replace it for me. It is a Hayward Super pump 2. It worked for a couple days. Now it is not pumping water. The motor is running. There is kind of a grinding sound in the area of the impeller. I removed the basket and checked for a blockage and could...
I am currently using a Hayward De3600 and the filter housing is cracked. What are some recommendations for a suitable replacement and where I could get one at the best price? I would prefer a filter that would connect to the fittings that are already installed, so I just have to screw in the...
The pump is running. I have tried setting it to the skimmer, vacuum, and both. The skimmer basket at the pool and the basket at the pump are empty and there are no visible obstructions. I came home to see this. I turned the pump off and opened the basket at the pump. There was water inside, but...
Other than tennis balls. My dogs like the foam noodles, but they can get torn up pretty quick. Does anyone have an idea for durable toys that are dog/pool friendly?
"Many species of algae are really just single cells. These cells can survive out of water for long periods of time, often as a resting phase, like a spore. The spores are literally everywhere in the atmosphere of earth. They are kind of like pollen in that regard.
If you sterilized your pool...
What is your CYA level? Did you test it yourself? From what I have read on here 4 ppm a day isn't unusual if you get a lot of sun. Bather loads and how much leaves and such drkp into your pool are also factors. I am at close to 2 ppm in Cenrtal Fl, but I get a good amount of shade and have a...
I have read about a member who uses rainwater runoff from the roof to help fill his pool. I am also in Central Florida and haven't had to add water in some time. Even with a good backwash every couple months, I am at a pretty high level. You must have more direct sun, or perhaps a leak.
I added 3 boxes of Borax and 1 gallon of acid at a time and it worked out. Borax into the skimmer and acid broadcast.
What where you doing with the bucket and (air hose) and liquid shock?
There are chlorine neurtalizer drops when conducting a TA test. . Why can't drops be added when the FC level is higher to get an accurate reading of PH?
Catalina is also what I use to marinate flanks and londons. Another one of my favs is to marinate shrimp and scallop kabobs In teriyaki sauce and toss them in a grill basket with some peppers and onions.
Yes, it is in a screened enclosure. The table area isn't hard to keep clean. The pine needles that get stuck on top of the screen can be a pain, but it's better than all the trees around my pool dropping in leaves.
I have seen a few posts about people who need to leave their pool unattended for an extended period of time (7-10 days). And the use of pucks is often a suggestion. Why couldn't the FC level be raised based on average daily loss? So if you will be leaving for 10 days and your average loss is 2...
idk, but I found this posted elsewhere on this site by Bama Rambler.
"Pucks come in different sizes. Common are 7 & 8 oz sizes. An 8 oz tablet will raise your FC by 2.2 ppm and your CYA by 1.3 ppm in a 25,000 gal pool."...
First, stop adding shock and stop listening to the pool store.
This is what the experts here will be helping you do.

I had a pool service and I took over doing it myself. Only liquid chlorine has been used to chlorinate. The reading I got was from a new TF-100 kit. It could be that this is my first time testing CYA and I misread it. I think the black dot was clouded out a little before 40, but I doubt it is...
It is from a local pool store refillable 2.5 gallon jugs of 10.5% @ $4.77 each (deposit on the jugs). It appears there was a problem with my old test kit getting inaccurate FC readings. There was a color change, but weaker than it should be. I bought a TF-100 and did the basic FC test and the...
A SWG will make it easier to maintain your chlorine level, but from what I have read there really isn't any cost savings as the cells usually have to be replaced every 3 or 4 years. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Can adding it directly without the sock method also cause damage to the filter, since it is acidic and can be stuck there for I'm guessing at least 24 hours even with it running?
I just added 7 lbs using the sock method in front of return jets and they dissolved within hours. I know it is highly acidic, so I'm not sure about any complications with it being stuck in the filter until it dissolves (maybe it does some damage IDK). But the sock method is highly recommended...
I am new to this and still learning. Does algae only get caught in the filter when it is dead because the process somehow makes it larger, or does dead and live algae both get caught, but the live algae multiples so fast that it is impossible for the filter to catch all of it? I suspect the...
I think he means the one's with free water tests that tell you how many hundreds of dollars of their chemicals you need. ;)
I went to one a couple weeks ago, then I found this site.
I think I will be buying my chlorine there, but that is it.
I know they are recommended against for long term use because of the added CYA, but could this person use slow dissolving sticks to maintain a safe amount of chlorine while on vacation?
I'm just new here but if I read that correctly and you lost 5 ppm in less than 2 hours, that does sound like a problem, otherwise I would wonder if there was a problem with your cell. I'm sure the experts here will help you figure it out.
