    Losing FC

Thing is the pool is crystal clear and there is no dead algae visible on the pool floor. So he just has to maintain the SLAM level of 24ppm, but for how long? Until he passes the OCLT test?

    Losing FC

Hello, Need some guidance as to why my friend's pool is losing tremendous amount of FC, no matter how much liquid chlorine we put in it. Today's reading: FC: 7.5 CC: 0.5 CH: 500 TA: 160 CYA: 55 PH: 7.8 Pool has been opened for about 2 weeks, water looks great, no cloudiness or algae...

    Question

Hello all, Question: On my CYA test, if I can no longer see the black dot on the tube at the 25 mark. Do I need to add 38oz by volume of stabilizer as indicated on PoolMath to reach the goal of 40?

OCLT was successful, had <1ppm for FC Loss last night and water is crystal clear. I would like to say "Thanks" to all that replied to this thread and I really appreciated it. I will continue to test the water on a daily basis to ensure the pool gets the proper care it needs.

7.5 is not aquedate enough? Water is clear, I see no signs of algae. I was hoping to use the OCLT to determine FC loss. Would you not agree?

Thursday's Update: The last time I put a bottle of bleach was last night after sunset. No bleach today as it's been drizzling sporadically. FC: 7.5 CC: 0 pH: 7.2 I will perform the OCLT test tonight to monitor any FC loss.

Wow, duly noted. Guess I need another trip to Walmart tomorrow. As far as CYA level is concern, what is the recommended level that I should be set to? Also, would a solar pool cover be a good investment here? We used to have one years ago until its time was up but never got a replacement.

Based on your previous response, I guess I'm shooting for 30, which is what I've already added to the pool. So on that Chlorine/CYA Chart, my target FC should be 4. Is 30ppm for CYA acceptable for my pool? Also, the CYA test won't reveal anything until a week later when it's fully...

Yes, I dosed it back up with the addition of another 2 bottles (that's all I have left at the moment), after 30 minutes, it's reading 3.5 FC and .5 CC Forgive me, but what target are you referring to with the CYA comment?

    Added 10ppm of Clorox Bleach and here are the results: FC - 6 drops x 0.5 = 3 CC - 1 drops x 0.5 = 0.5 I will continue to SLAM within 30 minutes from now. Thanks.

Monday's Update: TC level is still low about 3 TA = 100 Calcium = 275 CYA = At level 20, I can still see the black dot on the bottom, but starting to get a little hazy. I've added about 4.5 pints of pH Stablizer in my vacuum bag, placed it in front of my return. Seems to have dissolved most...

pH, according to the Blue Kit is between 7.2 - 7.5 According to PoolMath, in order to obtain FC of 10ppm, I need to add: 2 gallons 2 cups or 2.2 (121 oz) jugs, is that correct? What's a good effective stabilizer I can purchase at my local hardware store? Also, I'm having to backwash alot...

My kit arrived today. On the Weekly Test is as follows: FC = 1.5 CC = 2.5 So my TC is 4 (If I leave the tube alone, it turns back to pink (is that normal?) CYA Test: Filled the water to the top of Level 20 and I can still see the black dot on the bottom of the tube TA Test: After putting...

Sorry, 2x Chlorine tablets, 1 in the skimmer and 1 in the floater. 1 lb bag shock treatment after rain or heavy usage. WAG? Looked it up and couldn't find the definition of it.

We've always had a slow start up when opening up the pool. It would take us days if not weeks to get it clear. I would also have a difficult time keeping the pool chlorinated throughout the season. Perhaps, bad pollen season or my pool chemistry was never on point. I would bring water...

Almost clear to a hint of light yellow. Correct. Weather has been cloudy for the past couple of days, with temperature in the low to mid 70's. I will add one bottle per day until the kit comes so that I can post some solid numbers. Will be back next week and thanks for the replies.

Hello, New to the site here but I've been lurking for the past couple of days, obtaining as much information as much as I possibly can. Didn't know household bleach and baking soda were used for pool maintenance until this week. :( Ordered the TF-100 kit yesterday, so won't be here until...
