when I backwash the water comes out clean but I know filter water must be extremly dirty from all the dead algea etc' I vacumned on backwash cycle so to clean filter sand do I need to remove top & claen sand manually with garden hose untill water runs over top clear & I'm sure sand is clean all...

I have a push pull valve on pac fab filter , was told to vacumn on backwash by pool store , but when I turn to filter setting all the debri goes back into the pool , should I be vacumning on filter or backwash setting ? thank you
