What would you do? Replacement pump...

Superflo is $340, assuming I stay with the 1HP model. I'm sort of hesitant to 'frankenstein' a pump as I'm not too familiar with changing out internals. I did come across one page in my research that showed a ton of steps to add a higher HP motor to a pump and everything that needed to be...

What would you do? Replacement pump...

Thank you all for your replies. You pretty much said what I had anticipated, but as said, it's hard not to consider a free pump. It seems that the most simple route would be to go with the superflo as it would satisfy my pools needs and not have any added running costs that would come with the...

What would you do? Replacement pump...

My pumps life came to an end about a week ago, and I am in the market for a new one, maybe. Here's the thing. I have been researching pumps and flow ratings and everything I could think of to find a suitable replacement. I eventually decided on a 'Pentair 340038 SuperFlo High Performance Single...

    Size of pool plumbling

A picture of my pool plumbing from this past year... The returns 1-Skimmer, 1.5" piping 1-Deep end wall about 3' deep, 1.5" piping These combine in a 3-way valve, into another 1.5" pipe before entering the suction side of the pump. The suction and discharge of the pump are 2.5" ports, both...

    Starting conversion tonight!

Good luck! Hopefully there are some overcast days coming up to save you from rapid chlorine loss, and you won't need to go through so much chlorine. I converted when I opened my pool this year and it has been the best thing I've done for the pool yet.

    Changed sand...sand in pool

Thanks for the thread Richard. I read through from post 72, it seems this person had a much more severe problem than I do. I can put my hand in front of a return, and I don't feel any sand. If I take a brush to the accumulated stuff, it disperses into the water like dust, or algae I guess. (It's...

    Changed sand...sand in pool

I recently changed the sand in my pools filter. Prior to sand replacement I had no issues. The sand I used is pool filter sand, but it looked like normal sand. The sand I removed was all white in color. I was careful removing sand, and didn't see any damage on the downcomer or laterals. The one...

    Removing Multi-port on Sand filter

I know...that's what I'm afraid of. I don't want to break that valve and then have even bigger problems. Baquacil is the devil! Haha. It's frustrating for sure. I'm mechanically inclined, as I'm sure many here are...and it drives me nuts that I can't get this off. Looks like I may have to pay to...

    Removing Multi-port on Sand filter

Jv had found the website for the valve, and of the 3 options available, mine HAS to be a screw in type of valve. The problem is it's so tight. I put as much torque on it as I feel comfortable with, and is still doesn't move. The conversion calls for sand removal unfortunately.

First post - Opening, Converting, Enjoying

I passed my OCLT last night, and have been struggling with my sand replacement. IT has come down to having to call the local pool store up to replace it, as I am unable to remove the multi-port valve. Do I have to hold off on adding my CYA or can I do that now, and have my sand replaced a few...

    Removing Multi-port on Sand filter

There was no clamp, nor any bolts. In the picture posted, all I had done was remove the pipes. If it is a screw down...they must have glued it...I'm using wooden handles (think garden tools) in the ports to get more leverage and this thing isn't budging at all. I'm impressed you found the...

    Removing Multi-port on Sand filter

Yea, I was thinking the same. I still got get it to even budge though. I wouldn't think there would be any reason for it to be reverse threaded...so I haven't tried to really budge it the other way with any force. I'm just thinking...plastic. I don't want to crack it and have to replace...

    Removing Multi-port on Sand filter

The thing is pretty heavy (300lbs + sand). I took another look at the top, and it does look like what I thought was the top of the tank body, is actually the bottom of the multiport valve. I also went through the receipts from the former owner and she did have the sand changed often as well as...

    Removing Multi-port on Sand filter

Hey guys, I'm changing my sand (just finished baquacil conversion) and have so far, removed the plumbing going into the multi-port. I removed the top of the multiport and seen that there is only a port for water flow...so that can't be the way to get the sand out. The drain plug does have a...

Richard - I think you were spot on with the ladder. I removed it and the underside of the rungs were sort of caked with white baquagoo. Unfortunately, I also saw it on the inside of the rails, and have no real good way of getting it out all the way. I'm letting it soak in bleach right now, but I...

I'll give it a good once over. I just put the ladder in the pool the other day, I could have introduced more baquacil to it from that. I'm going to keep my pool at shock level today (first day since conversion that has the sun shining on the pool) and try again tonight. I put my robot in the...

Well, didn't pass. FC - 13 CC - 0.5 last night FC - 10 CC - 0.5 this morning. (It was light out, sun wasn't out yet and overcast day, so I don't think that tainted my results)

pH - 7.2 FC - 1.5 CC - 1.0 TA - 130 CH - 130 CYA - 0 Just for my record keeping. I'll add some chlorine tonight, let it circulate, and test when the sun goes down. I'll test tomorrow before the sun comes up and see what I have for my FC and CC numbers. Today is only day 4...So I won't get my...

Ok. How about my pH? Recommended level says 7.5-7.8. In a matter of a day it went from 7.8 to 7.2.

Alright my pool water is clear. My last 2 tests show my CC at 0.5 ppm. OF course my FC drops steadily with no stabilizer. However my pH has gone from 7.8 at the beginning of the conversion, (it was also 7.8 yesterday) to 7.2 today. I tested it twice to be sure. I've had a little more sunlight...

Been using Baquacil for 6 summers. Time to try BBB

Casey - You got it! All I have done is follow the 'script' and everything is going great. All the info I have and have shared I learned from reading from the experts and those who have done it before. I'm new to pools, new to the forum, and as long as you have some patience, and take your time...

    Skimmer with no Weir

Alright Fellers...I measured it and it looks like the weir you posted Steve, is what I need. I even managed to find a place that has it for $42 shipped. On a side note...I feel like an idiot here. For some reason I turned over my skimmers lid...and sure enough... Looks like a Model 'W'...

    Skimmer with no Weir

Haha. Yes, good job steve. I'll have to give the ole hole a measurement, and talk to some suppliers to get something that works. $70 for a floating piece of plastic...wow. Someone is making out on that deal. I'm almost half temped to find a gallon jug that has a bottom similar to the top of the...

    Skimmer with no Weir

It looks like #12 is a floating weir. I don't have that, but it could be that the 2 tabs I was mentioning before are there to keep a floating weir in place or in alignment. I guess the quest would be to find a floating weir like that, which fits appropriately in the space I have...whatever that...

    Skimmer with no Weir

I'm not sure what part 17 is on the right side, but the skimmer body looks pretty close. So I guess it's not supposed to have a weir? Seems odd. In the mean time, I did change my suction valving, so that all the water my pump is sucking in comes from the skimmer. It seems to be keeping the...

Been using Baquacil for 6 summers. Time to try BBB

I'm not an experienced feller here as you know, however, all the white particles will start to disappear, and to aid this, I have done a little vac-to-waste (which requires adding more water to pool) and vac-to-filter to get rid of some of it sooner. I don't think your FC level will stabilize...
