    TA too high

Myths take hold because people keep repeating it as a fact. :hammer: You do not want the acid laying on the surface of your pool. It will be a slow process every time you add acid to lower your PH you are working on your TA too.

    Help! Pool turned green overnight

I don't think PH in or out of range effects the ability of chlorine to kill algae. Would like to hear from the ModSquad on this statement.

    Concerned About Plaster Discoloration

TA is a constant battle for me anytime the wind blows the pool full of dirt the TA goes up since our soil has high alkalinity it makes sense, I live in an area with BLM (not developed) land all around. My tap water CH is 350 I do not know if all parts of the valley are the same or not but with...

    liquid bleach

Be careful draining your pool if you live in a high water table area or if you have a vinyl liner or if you live somewhere like I do where the sun will blister the plaster when it is exposed without water. You may need to drain a little at a time uses more water but it could save money in the...

    adding muriatic acid to pool.

The bottle I have from Lowes says to wait 2 hours after addition to a swimming pool. We have used our pool when I know it is mixed well after brushing the whole pool and letting the pump run on high for half an hour. I try to do it at night when I know we are done for the day but sometimes that...

    how to distribute CYA "conditioner"?

I have done the in the skimmer to the filter application. I like being able to see it has dissolved. It still won't show up in tests they say for around a week never tested earlier. After application you are to dose your chlorine as if it were there refer to the cya/chlorine chart in pool school.

    how to distribute CYA "conditioner"?

Unless you have stuff growing in there you don't need to shock your pool just keep chlorine in it and add your CYA.

    how to distribute CYA "conditioner"?

I use knee hi's new or retired and just dump the CYA powder in it and tie a knot in the top and hang it from the top of skimmer lid which keeps it in place, in the summer it is gone fast.

Cloudy pool due to new plaster?

Did they plaster and add water or did they plaster and then acid wash your pool the next day and add water?

    Question about chlorine

Testing is the key to operating a pool that gives you few headaches :hammer: and little down time. You need a complete test kit, the money spent on the test kit saves you a ton of time, energy and money in taking care of your pool. I read pool school before our pool was filled with water...

    Question about chlorine

I would trust the blue box test for your chlorine and Ph if it were me. I would see if the pool holds chlorine over night you can not be real precise but you can tell if you have something organic going on then you would have a better idea if the cell was producing chlorine or not.

    Question about chlorine

Do you know if your cell is not working or is your pool not holding chlorine? First thing you need to do is make sure there is chlorine in your pool so break out the bleach and do the over night test with your cell off and see if your pool holds the chlorine. You have to have a way to test the...

Can I use Cal-Hypo only to chlorinate?

You don't want to, our calcium level is 350 out of the tap and the evaporation is constant. CH is a battle to stay below 1000 in our pool. I only have scale to fight on my spill over from the wind and such but I use a lot of acid to keep the TA and PH in check, I would not use cal-hypo here ever.

    Taking the plunge...

Sometimes too many people telling you what to do is more trouble than it is helpful. Jason is giving you good advice. I have read many conversion stories and they are always somewhat discouraging when the end is near. Just my two cents about changing the topic ect. I have not have issues...

This normal for the FAS-DPD test tube?

My cylinders are not right I have to measure my water in another way, I use a syringe or a child's medicine measurer. I like the test kit very disappointed that I have to measure with syringe first. Not having the right amount of water in the sample alters what your ppm is, at least that is my...

Pool and Spa Thermometer with wireless Temperature Sensor

The sensor is typical of any other floating thermometer so it measures just the top part of the water. I had to weight mine too as the wind kept turning it over.

Does anyone here put MA in their pool by pouring...

I do not it will or could cause damage, I pour it slowly out away from the side in front of a return and then I brush the pool surface to make sure it is mixed in.

New pool owner - is the water safe?

What surface does your pool have? Plaster should be brushed three or four times a day the first week or two. No swimming allowed until balanced and plaster dust has stopped being shed off of the surface. Your pool builder or plasterer didn't leave you instructions? What FPM said too about the...

Trouble keeping Ph and TA down

No I don't think so. I think it is just different than what the big box stores carry they have the 14.9% MA in the pool section. It is still better to add acid often than to be in the desert without a pool.

Trouble keeping Ph and TA down

I add acid at about the same rate. We have the spill over spa which drives the Ph up and the acid drives the TA down I have been keeping it has been around 60 - 80 for the last couple of months. Our TA goes up when new water is added or when the wind blows dirt into the water. I am guessing...
