Time for a new pool pump?

I planned to replace the pump at the end of the season anyways. Actually have the new variable speed pump purchased and sitting in the house waiting to be installed. But I definitely didn't want to have to install it now. Kevin T

Time for a new pool pump?

I have a Sta-Rite pool pump that is going on 9-10 years old. Today I went to turn my pump on and noticed that it would not keep prime. It would suck and suck and then catch prime, hold it for about 30-45 seconds and lose prime again. This is all it will do now. I tried cleaning out the the...

    Mixing PVC Plumbing 1.5" & 2"

I'm in the process of replacing my years old pump & sand filter. Presently, my pool is plumbed with 1.5" PVC. The run is fairly long (estimate 30+ feet to the pump & then more on the return). I ordered a 2HP variable speed pump which comes with both 1.5" & 2" adapters. The filter will be...

    Mistcooling Pool Cooler

Well that didn't go as planned. Apparently some time in the night, the water pressure blew the sprinkler off of the fountain. Guess I should've put it on the lower pressure return. I'll tighten it down and try again tonight. Kevin T

    Mistcooling Pool Cooler

My wife actual bought that same "fountain" at our local pool store. I have it hooked up now and will be running it at night. I'm going to use it at night for a week and see what effect it has on water temp. Kevin T

    Mistcooling Pool Cooler

Thanks. I actually made a pool aerator for when I need to lower TA, but it wouldn't work for cooling. I might just try my hand with PVC. I'm always fighting high pH though so I'll have to weigh cooling vs. even more increased pH. But there's nothing worse than slipping into a pool that feels...

    Mistcooling Pool Cooler

So I'm thinking about trying one of these Mistcooling Pool Coolers: Amazon.com : Pool Cooler : Automatic Lawn Watering Equipment Accessories : Patio, Lawn Garden My pool has two returns so I assume I should just one of these as I assumed the circulation would be compromised if both my returns...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

I doubt it will get much clearer than that. Just waiting on the chems for my kit to verify what I believe. That I'm done with the SLAM. But I'll keep dousing the pool with chlorine until they arrive. Kevin T

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

Just a quick update, I'm about done with the SLAM, but I ran out of reagents so I ordered all new chems this morning for my TF-100 kit. Once that arrives, I'm pretty sure it'll verify that I'm close to done. Here are pics of my pool today around noon. A lot less green than before. The steps...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

No SWG. My only source of chlorine is manually dosing with 10.5% liquid chlorine. Measuring around 6:30 p.m. this evening my result was FC 19 / CC 1.5. I added 4 quarts of chlorine to bring the level up. Last night it was was FC 16 / CC 2, but I added 2.5 gallons of chlorine to bring it up to...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

What effect does water temperature have on the FAS/DPD test? My water is still cold from the mild winter we had here. Water temp is 60-62 F. Just want to make sure the low temp isn't skewing my results. I probably need to order some fresh chems for my TF-100 kit, but the sale doesn't start for...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

Not certain what's in my fill water. It's not well water. I'm on city water. I have a septic system so water should be cheaper, ie no sewage fee. Just looking at my pool, it appears that the stairs are starting to yellow again. The wife suggest I just throw "something" else into the pool for the...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

At this point, I'm attempting to SLAM so messing with TA isn't on the horizon until I'm done with that. I just don't know where to turn to next once I'm done SLAM-ing. TA? Metals? My wife thinks we should just drain and refill, but I'm not so sure. Kevin T

Would this be a good sequestrant to use? VINYL LINER BLUE STUFF - Stain and Scale Control - 32 oz - #JMBLUEVINYL032 - Stuff for the Pool - Our Stuff - Product Catalog - Jack's Magic Products, Inc. I still have to solve my pH rise problem so I'm probably gonna be fighting this for a while. My...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

The water is green and clear at this point so I assume it's the metal. It was slight green yesterday morning and noticeably green yesterday evening. I've never known algae to take over that fast, especially since my water temp is 60-62 F. Plus, there are no blooms in the corners of my pool where...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

Added 2.5 gallons of 10.5% last night around 6:30 p.m. and tested the water about 7:20 p.m. Readings were: FC 14.5 CC 1.5 I did the OCLT test, but I must've not waited long enough last night because this morning around 6:30 a.m. my readings were: FC 17 CC .5 I went ahead and tested...

    Green Water after Chlorine Addition

So I'm pretty sure I know what's happening. I did the ascorbic acid treatment in my pool about a month ago because my steps were yellowed. I followed all the steps, except the part where I add sequestrant. After I started adding chlorine, the water turned a pale green. I assumed it was causing...

Leaking pipe: Pool Repair business or Plumber?

Thanks for the input. I dug up the pipe this evening. It's actually pretty close to the surface. Maybe 6" or so. Looks like somebody (previous homeowner?) may have done some manner of repair. It's leaking from a fitting. I tried to upload the photo, but can't seem to get it done. I called a...

Leaking pipe: Pool Repair business or Plumber?

I have a leak in one of my underground pipes. It's out in the yard so digging it up to get to it shouldn't be hard. My plumbing is 1.5" PVC. Just wondering if I should call a pool specialist or just a regular plumber for this? I cracked a pipe once a while back and called Roto-Rooter. They did...
