Any ideas to find a leak?

Thanks for your reply MITS. No, the pump runs during the day. No multiport valve. I rechecked the supply jets and found one that was leaking. Sealed around it and I'm waiting to see if the water level holds. TS Debby is dumping rain on Central Florida so I can't really tell yet.

Any ideas to find a leak?

I have a 6500 gal. fiberglass that has started losing about an inch of water every night. Only about 1/8" loss during the day. It's not evaporation. I did a bucket test last night. The pool dropped an inch. The bucket nothing noticeable. I've checked all of the supply jets and around the...

    Taylor k-2005?

Mary, the Taylor K-2006 is $71.05 with free shipping if you order direct from Taylor. It's a little pricey, but the reagent sizes are very generous so you'll probably want to refresh them before you run out. The website for Taylor is taylortechnologies.com if you decide to order direct. Chris

    Taylor k-2005?

Here's another vote for springing for the K-2006 kit. I started with a basic test kit from the PB (similar to K-2005) with basic color matching chlorine and PH tests. After reading raves for the K-2006, I upgraded to it and haven't looked back. I find the tests to be more accurate and easier...

    Cartridge filters

My PB recommended SeaKlear at start-up to clear cloudiness. It usually helps clear cloudy water within 24 hours. I don't use it regularly - only if the water gets a little cloudy and my test numbers are otherwise OK. Chris

    Why the sock?

Hadn't thought of that, but since CYA is added rarely, I'm not too worried about ruining the net. Our pool is screened so I don't have much use for it as a leaf net anyway. At least this way, it's being used for something.

    Daily maintenance

I agree with the other posters. I feel better if I test every day. Sometimes every other day, but less often than that and I get nervous that my water won't be just right. Maybe when I get to be a pro in a few years, I'll be brave enough to test once or twice a week.

    Why the sock?

I put mine in my leaf net attached to the pool pole then lay the pole on the deck with the net hanging in the water near a return. Works like a charm.

Harry Potter--Who's seen it and who's reading it?

DD12 saw the movie last week and said it was great. Yes, we got in line at 10:00 p.m. Friday night for the midnight book release. She had her voucher since February. I haven't read any of the books - I'm not a big fantasy fan, but she loves them and practically wears the books out re-reading...

    Swimmers Ear

NWMNMom is correct. Swimmers ear is a result of bacteria that is always present on skin surfaces being able to overgrow in the warm, moist environment of the ear canal. If you take measures to dry the ear canal, the bacteria don't multiply as readily. My daughter got swimmers ear from bathtub...

    Swimmers Ear

DD6 gets swimmers ear frequently. The alcohol/vinegar mixture helps avoid it, but don't try that if the ear is even slightly sore, it won't be a happy event! Her doctor also says to carefully dry her ears with a warm blow dryer after swimming. Once you get swimmers ear, it's time for...

Am I ready for the Ascorbic Acid treatment?

What type of Jack's you need depends on what type of pool you have. As JasonLion said, purple for SWG, blue for new plaster and pink for others. I pay about $24.00 for a bottle at Leslies. After the initial ascorbic acid treatment, you'll only need to add a few ounces (depending on pool size)...

    cheap sequesterant

 I don't think there's anything wrong with seeking advice from others. That's why we're all on this board; trying to learn from others' experience. I can afford my pool, but I'm always looking for solutions that work and if I save a little money that's a bonus. Chris

Am I ready for the Ascorbic Acid treatment?

Seems like your PH may still be a little high, but follow the stain treatment and you should get fantastic results. We have a salt pool, so I use Jack's purple. I've noticed that the stains will start to return if my PH creeps too high (above 7.6). When I start to see them return, I lower the...

how reliable is store water testing?

Waterbear, you're the exception to the rule!!!! :super: And. . . most of the pool store employees I've encountered are about 20 years old and didn't know a pool needed anything but a float and a cold beer until last week when they started working at the pool store.

how reliable is store water testing?

I think the best investment you can make is a good test kit. And the most difficult adjustment you'll make is . . . learning to trust your results. Test the water yourself and post your results here. You'll get great advice and all the help you need to get your water balanced. And the best...

Why is the PH important when using Ascorbic acid?

Just wanted to add my two cents about stain removal. If you follow Mbar's instructions for removing metal stains - especially if your pool is fiberglass, you should have a beautiful result. I did the stain treatment two weeks ago and my FG pool looks better than it did when it was delivered...

    Muriatic Acid

Just a word of caution. I've never worked with dry acid, but be very careful working with the liquid acid. The fumes are really nasty. Always add the acid to water - not vice versa. Also, be sure to immediately rinse it off any painted surfaces. It will remove the paint pretty quickly. Chris

    New pool chemistry calculator

Wow, what a great tool for those of us who aren't chemistry geeks. - No offense ChemGeek! :-D So much easier to have all of the calculations in one sheet instead of separate. I was always having to ask someone for help calculating chemical quantities. Thanks for sharing! Chris

?? for Waterbear - re: acid usage

Thanks for the detailed quantities and instructions Waterbear. My TA is already at 80 so I don't think I'll have to work to reduce that. I'm going to give the borax and acid a try and see how it goes. By the way, all of the chemical analysis you guys are debating makes my brain hurt!!! :D...

?? for Waterbear - re: acid usage

Thanks, Waterbear. I'm a novice at water chemistry (first full pool season) so I'm going to read through the borax link carefully and may give it a go. Since our pools are almost the same size, your instructions should be fairly similar for our pool (I hope). Chris

?? for Waterbear - re: acid usage

Waterbear, I saw your response on Maxsrents post about tweaking your water balance to get your acid use down to 6 oz. every six weeks. If you don't mind me asking, how did you reduce your acid use? We have a 6,550 gallon FG with Reliance SWG, which I love. Currently, I'm adding 8 oz. of acid...

    History of Troublefreepool.com

Thanks for the new site Sean! I'll still visit the other forum, but as a neophyte pool owner, I hated to think all that great expert wisdom might be lost if the site dies. Hopefully, the experts (and I'm not one) will help out on both sites!
