    Pool Leak Help

Well the pool filled up quite a bit from some recent storms. What is really weird is that it no longer seems to be leaking as the water level hasn't moved. This doesn't make any sense to me, I dont see how a leak could fix itself. The only thing i know to do is to continue watching the water...

    Pool Leak Help

Hi Texas Splash, the return is not plugged as we are in SC and i dont lower the pool below the return lines in the winter although I should probably get some plugs and start plugging them in the future. Since the return hole is still under water I assume the line itself isnt leaking but it...

    Pool Leak Help

Our pool is currently closed for winter but in December a few days before Christmas I noticed that our pool was leaking. From eyeballing it I would assume it was losing about an inch of water a day. Our back yard is slopped and there are two retaining walls going down the hill behind the pool...

Replacing Single Speed with 2 Speed Pump

I am thinking of buying the AO Smith STS1152R which is a 1.5 HP 2 speed motor and also purchasing the rear motor plate that has the built in switch for high and low. This way I dont have to run any new external wires for a new switch and can change the speeds manually. This should work, correct?

Replacing Single Speed with 2 Speed Pump

After doing some more reading I found that some 2 speed motors have a High-Low switch on the motor itself. I think it would be the easiest to just buy a motor that has this switch built in and wire the motor with my existing wiring and timer. If the pool requires a 1.5HP motor now, what...

Replacing Single Speed with 2 Speed Pump

Ok, seems I need more education on the subject. Yes you are correct, I do only need the motor and did not plan on replacing the pump but just the motor. My understanding was that to make the two speed motor work correctly I needed a timer that had the additional wire so you could go from one...

Replacing Single Speed with 2 Speed Pump

Hi, my pool guy installed a new pump when I moved into the house about a year and a half ago as I knew nothing about pools and the old pump was locked up. He replaced the old Hayward Super Pump with a Centurion Century B229SE which is a single speed 1.5 HP pump. With minimal use (pool is...

Dark Stains - Should Have Known Better Before I Filled the Pool

The vitamin C took a small stain off right away, do looks like I have some metal stains. Might just try to live with them for the summer and wait to do the AA treatment at the end. Just got the water all balanced up and the whole AA process sounds kind of like a bear.

Dark Stains - Should Have Known Better Before I Filled the Pool

Let me see if I can find some vitamin C and I'll trying holding it on a spot to see if the stain changes. If it does chance I assume I'd need to perform an AA treatment?

Dark Stains - Should Have Known Better Before I Filled the Pool

My calcium has always been low for the most part, I always have to add. I think the pool wasnt really cleaned good enough when I drained it to clean out all the debris. At that time I was really concerned with trying to minimize the damage to the surface. I just got the salt up to 3200 and...

Dark Stains - Should Have Known Better Before I Filled the Pool

Any ideas on lightening these up, they dont really look bad when the pool is running and the sun is out but are much more noticeable when its dim and the pool is off.

Dark Stains - Should Have Known Better Before I Filled the Pool

What kind of stains do you think these are? Almost looks like they may have gotten worse.

Going Back to SWG From Chlorine

They had two 6.5lb jugs left so I picked up both of them for $20 each. Not a bad deal, I'm sure you could order it on their web site and they will send it to the store for free I think. I'll take a look at the salt cell tomorrow, best I can remember it was clean inside but I can tell it's...

Dark Stains - Should Have Known Better Before I Filled the Pool

I purchased a new house late last July that is 27k with a pebble stone finish. The pool was a complete swamp and had to be drained. Once I had it drained and shoveled out I cleaned the pool with a stiff bristle brush and diluted bleach. At that time some dark stains (more on the black side)...

Going Back to SWG From Chlorine

We are on the same page, had planned to start with 15 bags of the solar salt and go from there. I really hope the cell is working correctly as there really isnt any way to test it. The head unit lights up and powers on fine but the cell itself looks old so I could have to replace it at some...

Going Back to SWG From Chlorine

Thank you! The pool was completely cleaned and refilled last summer at which time some stabilizer was added but I have not added anymore. Everywhere I look it seems the stabilizer is very expensive, would you suggest I go from 20 to 70 PPM? What would that be, about 12 lbs? I tested the salt...

Going Back to SWG From Chlorine

Bought my house last summer and the pool was a swamp, cleaned up the pool and treated it as a chlorine pool (adding bleach) for the remainder of the summer. The pool is a 27k gallon pebble stone with an Auqa Rite SWG and T-15 cell. Now that summer has begun, I'd like to switch the pool back to...

    Morton Salt differences.

Sam's Club currently has Morton Solar Salt Crystals (40lb) for $2.96 and Morton Pool Salt (40lb) for $5.69. My understanding from doing some reading on the forum is that the Solar Salt would be fine to use but wanted to make sure that's still the case. As you can see there is quite a...

So embarrassed...Defeating the Giant Green Monster

Re: So embarrassed.... My pool looked that way when I uncovered it on Saturday. I started the SLAM process on Sunday once the pool was full of water. 24 hours later its looking so much better but the bad part is I've been having to backwash my DE filter every 3-4 hours so at night I just...

First Time Opening Pool - Looking Green

Thank you, pool is probably 8 inches low at the moment with the cover still on. I will uncover it tomorrow and fill the pool and get the pump running. Looks like I just need to add the appropriate amount of acid and SLAM the pool with bleach. How about the DE filter? How much DE do i need...

First Time Opening Pool - Looking Green

I closed my pool last year by adding no additional chemicals other than raising the chlorine level and then covering it with the mesh cover. I looked in the pool maybe two weeks ago and the water was clear but I know there is some trash in there. Fast forward to today and when I took a look...

South Carolina / North Carolina Pool Closing

When I first moved into this house this summer I had to completely drain the pool clean it out and refill. My water has always been crystal clear. I had a pool guy get me started and then I maintained using bleach until I get my SWG going next spring. I went ahead and closed the pool this...

South Carolina / North Carolina Pool Closing

Hey, I read it and it looks like I need to SLAM and pick up some Polyquat. I still have some of the same questions about water level due to my geography, do I really need to lower the pool level and drain the skimmers and put antifreeze in them? I would think pool closings diff greatly...

What Brand Mesh Cover is this?

I went back and ordered a loop loc 'mesh' patch kit in blue and it matched perfectly. Seems I ordered a 'non-mesh' in green before and the design is quite different. Thanks!

South Carolina / North Carolina Pool Closing

This is my first winter with a pool and the first time closing one. From my details below you can see what type of pool I have. I live right on the SC/NC line in Lake Wylie. I have a loop loc mesh cover with the pool and I'd like to close the pool for the winter and use the cover as I'm...

    Polaris 380 wheels not turning

After taking mine completely apart I'd say it could only be a couple of things if yours isn't working correctly. You've probably got some trash in the unit that stopping up your propulsion jet or a hose inside is loose or off. I'd suggest taking a Philips head screwdriver and taking the 380...

    Polaris 380 wheels not turning

tbenton, mine just started doing this same thing you describe above. Where you able to get yours fixed? I took mine apart and I cant find anything wrong with it. Update - took the unit completely apart this time where I was able to get to the jet that propels the unit. The jet was clogged...

Unfortunately I can no longer get in touch with the previous owner. I know the cover was made in 2006 if that helps any.
