Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Just want to close this thread out in case anyone else goes on the same journey. So I bought some bubble solar cover and tried this approach. Unfortunately my autocover sits right on the water and it was very difficult to get the bubble cover properly under the autocover without bunching up...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

I would do it again in a heartbeat. I didn't want a raised spa because I wanted the autocover. My spa isn't tiny, so if I had to reheat from air temp every time I wanted to use it, it'd be really expensive and take well over an hour in the winter. If you have a smaller spa, it probably...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

I like this! Might also be good to couple with the bubble wrap solution proposed to stick under the autocover. Thanks for the idea!! Edit: Now I just need to find a cheap piece of bubble wrap to try and float under the cover.

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Not that I can think of, open to other ideas. All I have without the tarp as a secondary cover is the thin vinyl autocover. It found that it isn't very good at holding heat overnight when cold, same with the pool. Maybe since your spa is so big it holds the heat better than my 8x7 spa?

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

I looked at those in the store but then got worried where I would store 2 huge pieces of foam in the summer! I could still shove them under the tarp if I could figure out how to store them. I am interested to find out how much better that would hold the heat, the tarp keeps the spa at 78-80...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

What do you mean by 3m backing? I could do some blue tape on the autocover bar and then put velcro on top of that. That could be removable after winter. Does 3M have a similar type product that is removable?

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

2x4 could have worked but it gets wet so the pressure treated ones are much heavier then regular I found. Outdoor rated 2x2’s were just about right. We’ll see how it holds up to the wind but so far so good. Should save me a small fortune on the spa heating bills!! If only I could find a good...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

To close this thread out, I found that 2x4’s were too heavy. I opted for 2 outdoor rated 2x2x8. I wrapped the tarp around them and then used grommets to create a pocket for them to sit in. Then I used grommets to reduce the size of the tarp to slightly bigger than the spa by folding over the...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

It’s heavy duty but i think a light tarp would work almost just as well. The real key is it makes a thin layer of air between the covers and minimizes the wind. It’s mostly in the low 40’s here at night

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Thanks! I’ll look into it. My concern would be that the autocover drags on the water and the solar cover wouldn’t stay in place, but that provides a much cleaner look as my wife hates the extra tarp on top (but she hates paying the gas bill even more!!). That would be a great solution if I...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Great idea! Definite improvement on my current situation, thanks AJ!! Not having to navigate the spa wall would be great, especially after a few beers in the tub. 🍻 I could couple this with the other suggestions I’ve gotten in the past to use the primer and paint spray all in one and have...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

So gas prices are insanely expensive. It costs me $500/month to heat my 7'x8' spa in winter. If I only use the autocover the spa temp drops to the 60's every night, if I put a tarp over the autocover it holds 79-80. It makes a huge difference in the heating bill as well as is ready to go in...

What did you do to your pool today?

I'm kicking myself for ever adding CH. Pool almost a year old now. I brought the CH up to the minimum recommended amount. Now it's up to 625 and still rising. I don't really get it. My fill water is only 125 and I have an autocover so I barely add water. Only thing I can figure is that...

Taylor sample sizer. Unnecessary and love it

This. The free water bottle sampler from Leslie's works amazing, best thing I've gotten from there! It's really easy to just fill it up once from the pool and then get just the right amount into each test. I tried just dipping the tests into the pool and it was always off, I tried using a...

Advice on what to do with pool contractor $14000 unexpected charge

I cut them a big check and then badger them for warranty service on my pool cover which already has small holes from dragging over the spa dam wall.

Advice on what to do with pool contractor $14000 unexpected charge

Update about this, my pool builder and I were able to come to an agreement on an amount and we settled. Both sides are probably not thrilled but satisfied. Mega thanks for all the input and ideas here, it really helped us form a strategy and agree on a path forward.

Dolphin Getting Stuck on Drains - (Partial) Solution

I love this hack. Has anyone found a place to get adhesive teflon like this? I can't seem to find it on Amazon (or any other place for that matter)

    Spillover mode.

Agree, but I have 2 ways to run spillover. 1). drain from pool, return via spa and pool (manual) 2). drain from pool, return via spa (automated) I had been doing #1, now just figured out how to enable "spillover" mode and do #2. Now I'm wondering if it makes sense to ever bother with #1 again.

    Spillover mode.

I just wanted to say thanks for these instructions. The builder didn't setup my spillover either in my omnipl and I was always annoyed that I had to manually turn the spa valve on or off when in pool mode depending on if I wanted to mix the spa water. Many times I wanted to keep the spa water...

What did you do to your pool today?

Wow, looks amazing. Is that a kit or do you just have serious skills? (or both!) My wife has been bugging me to do the same and I'm struggling with where to start, besides hiring someone.

Travertine Coping - Colors Not Matching

Funny. Was just gonna post the exact same story, same exact details even! We were annoyed at first but it wasn’t an issue once it was all done for us, but also agree that in this case that one peice of coping just doesn’t look right.

Ideas to adding a simple remote for family and friends to control spa and lights

Like everyone else has said, I have an old iphone in a waterproof case. I mounted a wireless charger in a plastic bag on the post with our outlet and the phone just stays outside all the time. Always charged, assuming the kids put it back, and right where you need it.

My pool builder put a hose valve at the equipment pad. I hook up a hose, open it and turn on the pool pump. You don’t have one?

    Muriatic Acid Price Check

No strong stuff at any Lowe's or HD around me, the half strength is $8.50 a gallon. I was in Leslie's about a week ago and got regular strength 31.45% for ~$9 gallon but I just now checked their website and it's up to $15 a gallon!!! Right before Christmas I got 31.45% from Leslies for only...

What did you do to your pool today?

So, if I get my pool pretty clean with a couple of robot cycles, skimming and filtering, and it's properly chlorinated (3.5ppm with 50 CYA) and the CC's are relatively low (somewhere between 0 and .5), it sounds like I can keep the autocover closed for about a week at a time before needing to open?
