    Do over

    - - - Updated - - - It was what I thought would be easiest after having lived with a vinyl after many years. Frankly, it is what caused me to start this thread because I'm not sure where I might end up.

    Do over

Not sure which forum is best for this. We had a pool for 10 years, but moved to a non-pool home about 4 years ago. I never thought we would go down that path again, but my wife continues to long for another hole in the backyard. That got me thinking - if you had to do it over again, what...

Re: How to clean a cartridge filter

Re: How to clean a cartridge filter I had this post bookmarked and thought the "dishwasher detergent" in the instructions was a bit more specific. I recall using Electrasol last year. It now appears to be called Finish. Will this be adequate? It is lemon scent - could not locate anything...

My pool seems to insist on a low TA

It has been a rather wet summer in our area (South Central PA). I wonder how much that contributed to keeping the PH in check? Also, if liquid chlorine does not cause the PH to rise, what does? The only things I ever add to the pool are liquid chlorine and muriatic acid.

My pool seems to insist on a low TA

This topic seemed similar enough, so I am going to further it with another question. For the previous two years on the BBB, I would add liquid chlorine (12%) to maintain FC. This would cause PH to creep up and I would be adding acid at least once every two weeks. Alkalinity was typically in...

When do those who live in the northeast open their pools?

It's a maple tree for us. Every gust of wind brings an army of "helicopters" down into the pool area. The frustrating part is that it is the neighbor's tree. Sure, it was there first, but there is no solace in that logic.

    Blowing out lines

I've been told by my PB that blowing out the lines in our inground pool is not necessary. Nor have we ever put antifreeze in. We've been through 4 winters so far and no problems (knock on wood). I've ready many posts here that include this step in the process and am a bit concerned that I'm...

    Algae and "perfect" water

Not sure if you are upset with those results, but 0 is what you are looking for. Perhaps it is the lack of probable cause that got you down.

    Worms?

Just an update. There have been significant amounts of small flies around the pool, somewhat mosquito like. After much research, I am quite certain they are midges. I suppose they are the reason for the worm-like larvae in the pool. Link to Midges - http://bugguide.net/node/view/52163

    Worms?

Well, they are back this morning. The only thing I can think as to why there were none yesterday is that we had the solar cover on Friday night. I also noticed them on the skimmer socks, so it is more than just the steps. Pictures attached. Any help with identification is appreciated...

    Worms?

Now that's just plain creepy. How did that thing fit in the cricket? Anyway, go figure, there was none this morning to take a photo of. I'm glad, but now somewhat disappointed in a strange way that I can't share this with you. FYI - I've never seen them move, which makes me happy. Also, I...

    Worms?

Results, courtesy of my wife: FC - 9.5 CC - 0.0 TC - 9.5 PH - 7.7 Alk - 100 Temp - 80 CYA - 30 I must say, I'm a bit suprised on the chlorine as I tested it last evening and got 4.5. I put in a gallon of the good stuff which should have yielded a 4.1 increase (per Pool Calculator). Perhaps...

    Worms?

I'm pretty comfortable it's not maggots. :-D A pic will likely have to wait until tomorrow morning as I've fished out today's crop. I have "toyed" with one before while it was on the net and I can't make out any discernable features to it. It seems to lose its defined edges once removed...

    Worms?

Not sure if this is the right place to pose this question, but it didn't seem to fit anywhere else. For the past few mornings I have noticed small worm-like creatures on our walk in steps. They appear white/ivory in the water and, when I scoop them out with the net, they seem somewhat...

    Disposal of old test reagents

I've been using the same reagents for the past two seasons (maybe three for some). I decided to get a refill kit this year (TFP kit, of course). What is the best way to dispose of the old reagents?
