    Paint Flaking in Western Virginia

I have the same pool with a hairline crack in the same spot as you. It's been painted many times in its 45+ year life. They are right. The paint doesn't last and doesn't look good for long. I think when I do a renovation I will go for a vinyl liner. I have the same concern about the steps. I...

    Salt lowers freezing point

Just curious...would the concentration of salt in a pool lower the freezing point enough that it could aid in freeze protection? It doesn't apply to me because I have to winterize in Michigan but I don't think I've seen any discussions about it.

    West Texas Pool Build

Re: Our West Texas Pool Build Careful on those "come anytime" invites. Sometimes people really take it to heart and you end up regretting it. I've learned my lesson.

So who had plumbing issues in the big freeze?

The pools is fine here too...of course I can only see a fine outline of it under the 18 inches of snow we got over the weekend. Just had to take a blow torch to the water line inside the house. The light bulb wasn't doing it.

So who had plumbing issues in the big freeze?

This is a little extreme for us too. It's not usually this cold.

Control your Jandy equipment from your PC with a $15 adapter

Re: Control your Jandy equipment from your PC with a $15 ada Let me temper my post by saying this thread is way beyond my scope of knowledge. I run a storage facility and my gate controller connects to my computer using a serial connection (rs232). I had nothing but trouble using the USB to...

    Leaves

How about a half dozen leaf nets put on before they start falling. Then you can peel one off once a week like they do the NASCAR windshields. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Leaves

Wow! And I was irritated by the one, mature silver maple my neighbor has about 15 ft. behind my pool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Opening a pool today, need advice for filter after winter

Re: Opening a pool today, need advice for filter after winte I think I would backwash and rinse it before I started filtering. This way you'll know your clean pressure. The drain plug was probably removed when the pool was closed. Make sure you put that back on first.

    Sorry Grandma

Too funny. The tree causing my problem is my neighbor's as well. Thankfully it doesn't block the sun too much. Helicopters in the spring. Gotta love 'em. I came home Memorial Day to my pump sucking air because my skimmer was full of them.

    Sorry Grandma

Still waiting for my water to hit 60. Near 80 degree weather last week didn't help. I'm keeping the solar cover on because the giant silver maple behind me is now losing its leaves. Ugh. I'm thinking it might be easier to clean up a green pool in the spring than it is to deal with all these...

    Which one is right???

Did you add the bleach slowly in front of the return? If you poured it too fast maybe it sunk to the bottom and took a while to mix?? This could bleach your liner so you want to be careful. They say your stream of bleach should be no bigger than a pencil. Also you could sweep under where you...

New England Pool Needs some Love!

If you're thinking about selling soon I wouldn't spend more in a rehab than it would cost to fill the pool in. Around here (Michigan) it is my understanding that pools do not add to value of your home. They are more or less neutral. I think it's likely you would not recoup your investment. You...

    Sand Filter Tank Storage Question

Your filter will be fine in your garage over the winter. Just make sure you remove the drain plug and let it empty all the way. Mine makes it through every year. As far as the debris, just reach in and grab it out. Your sand will be fine. Many on this site never change their sand.
