Question: Glass Mosaic Tile. The Good and the Bad?

Here are my thoughts. I love glass and currently have 1x1's as the waterline tile and on the perimeter overflow spa. The 1x1s (or smaller) can be troublesome. Typically, small glass tile's use some type of mesh backing to keep the tile together. Regardless of how thorough the installation...

PebbleTec Drain & Acid Wash 2 Month Old Pool!?!

Why even bother. No acid wash will be perfect and you'll end up with the same mottling effect in different places. Even if they are able to get it close to perfect, it will certainly mottle over time. I think it looks fine and dont understand why everyone is so concerned about color variations...

in-floor not moving much dirt or leaves into the drain

Where is the distribution valve for the cleaning heads located? Did you see the engineering diagram from paramount and ensure the pool builder executed against the plan? What RPM are you running your pump and how long (high speed cleaning)? That being said, you will always have dead spots, but...

Need help with new Pentair IntelliChem system please

You clearly aren't listening. I never knocked the product as I use it myself and love it. Running a salt cell with CYA at 50 puts WAY more stress on the cell then running the cell with CYA of 80. I spend no time adjusting my cell - I keep it at 40% and my FC is always between 3 and 5. That being...

Need help with new Pentair IntelliChem system please

You are missing the point - the initial setup of the intellichem is more difficult then just setting the cell at fixed output. Further, there is more strain on the cell with cya at 50, and finally, a cya of 50 will start to make the orp readings wonky. I'm not saying your solution doesn't work...

Need help with new Pentair IntelliChem system please

This could work - but its much much easier to just set the salt cell to a fixed percentage with CYA at 80. With this setup, the salt cell will run less and thus, last longer.

SWG question - Add to floor popup line or return line?

The returns are completely redundant in a pool with in floor cleaning. Both, A&A and Paramount recommend against installing a separate return loop - its not needed. The in floor heads will always pop up, regardless of whether pump is running on high or low speed (although they will just barely...

    So done.

I dont see anything wrong with any of these images. The decking looks fine and the variations are how the product is supposed to be - not smooth. The variation in color on the travertine is normal - its natural stone. Just my opinion

My thoughts after using Paramount PCC2000 In-Floor Cleaning system for 6 months

Great overview of the paramount in-floor cleaning system. In my personal opinion, if you have your choice between A&A or paramount, I would choose A&A. The engineering and design is superior, in my opinion. * A&A uses a single variable speed pump (ie intelliflo) to drive the system. There is...

Need help with new Pentair IntelliChem system please

Dont bother - my recommendation is to keep the CYA at 80 and run the salt cell independently of the intellichem. The intellichem should only control acid injection. Here's why. The use of a salt cell creates hydrogen gas, which does funny things to the ORP sensor the intellichem uses to...

Pool Quote - Please Review & Input

I think the contract is fine - seems very standard for the industry. At the end of the day, it doesnt really matter much what the contract says. If you have a major problem with the pool, and the builder refuses to fix it, you are looking at potentially 15-20k in attorney fees to get it settled...

Can you have a separate spa schedule with no heat?

There is a configuration setting within easytouch the disables the auto on heat when moving to spa mode - can't think of it off the top of my head and the name is not obvious but it's definitely there

    IntelliPH and IntelliChem insight

All valid points - although I will say I am over 1 year in service and never had to clean or calibrate the ph sensor. Acid tubing is still good as well although I will probably replace that this coming spring just as a precaution

    IntelliPH and IntelliChem insight

Yes, I keep it set at 7.6 and the intellichem handles the rest. One thing to note on installation is that I don't like pentairs recommended way of installing the intake and outlet for the flow cell. With pentairs recommended method, I find you have to run the pump at 2200 rpm to get the...

    IntelliPH and IntelliChem insight

I keep my cya at 80 - I don't use the orp sensor for chlorine dosing, however. Just set the salt cell at a fixed percentage. This does not make the orp sensor useless however, it can still be used to measure relative chlorine values. Even without the orp sensor managing the chlorine dosing...

    East Dallas New Construction Help

Give John a call @ Southernwind Pools. If you are wanting a pool that size, you are going to want to ensure it is engineered and built properly. That being said, I would never consider a pool of that size and price without a shotcrete shell. Check out Southernwind's website. They are a...

PH levels in winter and CSI Index

Anyone have any thoughts on PH levels in winter time? I have an intellichem on my pool. All of my levels are in range. However, with the water temp in the high 30's, I would need to have my PH somewhere around 8 to be at an ideal level on the CSI index. At 7.5 PH, the intellichem is reporting...

Building a New Pool in Dallas Suburb Advice Needed Please!

Totally understand, you have to call the budget at some point. The fact is every builder in this area has raised prices significantly due to demand. Hauk builds a fine pool all things considered

Building a New Pool in Dallas Suburb Advice Needed Please!

+1 - John and Southernwind are/have been great for me. One of the big differences between Hauk and Southernwind is that Southernwind shoots the pools with Shotcrete (wet-mix), not Gunite (dry mix). This is significantly more expensive and well worth the 10% premium. Also, Southernwind uses #4...

New pool build in North Texas! A long and skinny pool....

Pavers all the way. Stamped concrete can and will crack eventually. Difficult to expand decking in future due to color matching concrete batches. If plumbing goes bad under the slab, no choice but to jack hammer. Concrete decking requires sealing which often leads to a slippery deck. Concrete...

New pool/spa build in North Texas Updated: PICS

Yes, lot was always empty so we knew the house was eventually going to go in. We have a row of nelly r Stevens holly across the back off the property which should form a 20-30 foot screen, eventually. Yes, spillway was leveled but I wouldn't call it perfect. Builder has commited to getting it...
