Getting the pool ready for the season!

Ugh, you're right. I'm blaming DST. I'm good at 350. Thank you! One less thing to take care of! See, this is why I post here... Y'all keep me honest!

Getting the pool ready for the season!

Thanks! After cleaning the filter, I went to hang the CYA from the ladder and realized my Zen little "overlooker" offered the perfect mechanism for hanging in front of a return :)

Getting the pool ready for the season!

Hello, all! This is my second pool following these methods and 2nd year with this particular pool. The first year, we fought a battle keeping it balanced as the TA and CH were consistently high. I got that all worked out at about this time last year and we had a perfect pool all summer. Over...

New Pool Owner - Might dynomite soon

I'm just going to say... If I can figure this out, and you have a Masters, you certainly can. Breathe deep, order a test kit and Speed Stir (and get an extra stirring "pill" while you're at it - trust me), visit your nearby warehouse store and pick up some bleach, go back to the pool store only...

Borates - I've got my supplies

I was lucky enough to work from home this week, so I spent Sunday and yesterday tuning in. Added Borates Sunday night. Everything tested pretty perfectly today and here's a before and after :) Today's test: FC - 7 CC - 0 pH - 7.5 TA - 80 CYA - 40 CH - high at 550, but I'm not worrying about...

Borates - I've got my supplies

I've got my supplies, and I'm ready to go. I've actually been ready to go for a few days, but left town for a couple nights and had to SLAM and wait for the FC to come down. Next time, I'll ask the dog sitter to throw some bleach in. Today's test: FC -10 CC -0 pH - 7.8 TA - 90 CH - 550 CYA...

Garden hose filter for adding water to pool?

Hi Smooth2222! I had the same issue with my last pool (well, fill water) and came up with this - which was very effective. Good luck! http://www.bohowillow.com/2013/09/a-tale-of-pool-and-well-water.html?m=1

    First ever battle with algae

Thanks so much! Passed the OCLT this morning. Time to give that pump a short break for the day and change the filter for good! Whew!

    First ever battle with algae

Sun's over the pool now. Hard to believe I'm still SLAMming when the water looks so inviting! And I NEVER registered any CC. Goes to show!

    First ever battle with algae

Oh it's as clear as it's ever been. Just still losing chlorine at night :( Hard to get a good shot while it's still in the shade.

    First ever battle with algae

Oh, I didn't mean add them to avoid hives... I meant last time I used MA, I got hives. I've got super sensitive skin. I'd prefer to not have to use gallons of it to add Borax. Anyway, FC dropped 1 1/2ppm overnight last night. Day three about to commence!

    First ever battle with algae

Once I get this cleaned up, I was thinking of adding borates, but going the easy route with something like ProTeam Supreme Plus. I had hives all day last time I used any MA. Thoughts?

    First ever battle with algae

Thanks, all. Not done yet. Dropped 2ppm. :( Patrick_B - I think the dirt usually just comes through the screen. We're a block from the beach on a busy road and we've figured out through millions of noseeum bites that the cage is screened with regular screen. Looks a whole lot better, though!

    First ever battle with algae

Hello! So it rained all day yesterday here, and it's not unusual for us to have quite a bit of dirt/sand in the pool after a big rain, but this looked different. I tested and everything tested OK, but I still felt like this was a little more than the usual. I ran the vac yesterday afternoon...

New home, new state, new pool!

Hello! I spent a lot of time here last year as a new pool owner with a 18' above ground SWG pool in PA. We just moved to Florida and the new house and new climate came with a new to us pool! The pool was put in back in the 70's and as we understand, it's painted concrete. It's 20'x40' with a...

    Our 27' round deck build

Very nice! I wish we would have gone with deck all the way around, at least enough to walk on. Can't wait to see the final result!

    Officially open!

So... even with the home made filter when I filled, I'm still getting a lot of sediment in the bottom. I used the pool vac and it would fill up, but the next day, there's the brown stuff again. Now I'm not sure if it's just sediment or iron falling out? Any ideas? I even got a Slime Bag, and...

    Officially open!

Thanks! It was nice to open to a clear pool. I was going to have water to top off from a truck again, but tested our well water and it seemed kind of perfect to use, other than the sludge that comes up from time to time. Took it slow and used my homemade filter setup I shared last year (pic...
