    replacing skimmer in concrete pool

I talked to a guy today who has already jack hammered out his old skimmer on a 20x40 concrete inground. He was planning on sliding the new one in and siliconing it to the old concrete. I dont do a lot of work on concrete/gunite pools. What is the proper method of replacement? Do you need to...

    amp meter pump

Lately I have been running into a lot of older pumps that have trouble holding a prime with no air leaks or obstruction. I will prime them with forced flow from a hose and rag in the skimmer, they will seem to run ok, and then slowly lose prime over night. I dont have an amp meter and Im not...

    Waterfall Curtains and Cantilever decking

the link you left sent me to what my store refers to as sheer decents. They are very cool, we often use them on stone walls that border one side of the pool or if we have a natural rock water feature that comes up to the edge of the pool, we will use those to create the illusion of the feature...

    Monopersulfate question.

chem geek, their is an article in pool and spa news about the use of non chlorine shock in indoor pools, it seemed to conclude that that was safer for air quality than break point chlorination. If you can find it let me know what you think. Im not sure when I saw it but it wasnt too long ago.

    Hayward heater

I have used a compressor with an air clean up nozzle on tough ones, the one with the triggger to just blow stuff off. The head fits into the tube pretty nicely.

    Pump's Circuit Breaker Tripping

if its an isolated incident I would not worry about it. If it keeps happening, check to make sure the electrical connections are not corroded, and inspect the wire where it comes into the pump. If these look ok then it is probobly the pump.

    Broken Thru Bolt

that is pretty unlikely, most shafts are one piece. If the shaft is actually broken, your pump is probobly so beat up you should just replace it. It is more likely that your impellor has a brass thread insert. Post a pic.

As long as I'm replacing my concrete deck...

I would absolutly replace the plumbing lines and probobly the skimmers too, they tend to get destroyed when the concrete is ripped up. As far as the coping goes, if you are going to replace that I would concider replacing it with simple track and having your deck poured with stagmir forms, they...

    Valve actuator wiring

that is what the diagram indicates, and yes they are all the same. I use them interchangably. Next you need a diagram for your controls wiring and you should be set. I only deal with the hayward and pentair automation. They use the plug in, its not hardwired so I have never manually...

Help me build a 20x40 pool...

there is a lot of research into that and it seems that it does. It also makes tweeking water feature flow rates possible and extremely easy. Its worth looking into. My favorite filter is the clean and clear 520. This is from pentair as well. If you buy an intelliflo, clean and clear 520...

Help me build a 20x40 pool...

What area are you located Tara, sorry if I missed it. The intelliflos are very nice and energy efficient pumps, but they are about 2 times more expensive. I think that they pay themselves off well.

New gunite, plaster, liner? -how to do MAJOR repair of leaks

since none of the conduit or lights are designed to be cut in I dont think a liner will work well, but I would have to see it. I would get a quote from a gunite company that does free quotes since some wont take the job.

    Valve actuator wiring

not 100% but i believe white is the center and the other 2 dont matter, you will just have to flip the switch on the valve if it is wrong. Strip back the wire and if white is centered in the shielding then this is a fairly accurate confirmation.

Do I need an eyeball return?

The eyeballs help by focusing and directing the water. Its only a few bucks, I would probobly buy them. Its not going to do any damage or anything not having them.

    Best Paint For Pool Coping

I know they make special coping paint that I got through my distributor last year. This is the only one I could find online: http://www.waterwarehouse.com/poolsuppl ... -3569.html hope that helps, its pretty expensive. I think appliance paint will work pretty well though

Thinking about buying a spa, need advice please re: bad back

Thats a tough one to give advice on since most people dont sit in a ton of different tubs and most PB only know the line they carry well. The company hotsprings is one line that the store I work for sells. You might want to look into them. If what my salesman tells me is true, they are the...

DIY IG LINER POOLS -- part 5 -- plumbing and lighting

I didnt realize we were so close. We might be able to work something out. Unfortuantly my company does not pressure test lines, we fill the pool before backfill to prevent wall pushing during that time and visually inspect the lines for leaks. Pressure testing would be a much more...

DIY IG LINER POOLS -- part 5 -- plumbing and lighting

Have any of you guys concidered heat bending 20ft lengths of hard pipe? I think this is what I will do when I build a pool for myself. Right now I use tigerflex for speed, but hydralic efficiency would be a lot better with heat bent pipe and using 20ft lengths would really reduce the number of...

To Bury or Not to Bury an Above Ground Pool!

Sorry. -The walls are not intended for such a purpose. The corrosive resistant coating is not meant for the rigors or being buried and exposed to mosture like that. In addition to this, the ph of the soil in many areas is acidic and will speed the corrosion of these thin walls. -as was...

To Bury or Not to Bury an Above Ground Pool!

I do not suggest doing this, its just a really bad idea. For 10 grand you could have bought a do it yourself inground kit and paid for the excavation.

    please help with aquarite goldline

continue to circulate the water and set it to the auto setting for 24 hours after doing a power down reset. Wait till then and check once more. If it is still giving you those errors take a sample to a pool store and have them do an independent meter to double check. M

    Liner Wrinkles

This is often indicitive of a groundwater problem. Was a french drain put in at the footer of your pool? Do you have any sort of grade coming toward the pool? It would be prudent to talk to your builder about this.
