    Time to replace salt cells?

I'd love some input on troubleshooting FC levels that just won't hold. We have a Breeze 540 that was installed spring of 2016. At the beginning of May I had a slight algae problem, then had a successful SLAM in the middle of the month, let the FC float down to around 5 ppm on 5/17 hoping to...

Having a hard time maintaining proper FC levels

Jodie, thanks so much. We are in South Carolina so we've had really wonderful spring temps but also plenty of heavy rains, some splash out, and just plain ole evaporation too. I will perform an OCLT to see where we're at there but I think you're right, I think since I've had a hard time...

Having a hard time maintaining proper FC levels

Thank you so much, that was super helpful! So now I think my next study is to determine why I'm always battling my CYA falling (or maybe that's just going to be the case?), and also determine if I should replace the cells. I'll do some searching in the forum but any input is greatly appreciated!

Having a hard time maintaining proper FC levels

Hey there guys - be gentle on me...I'm not very SWG/pool intelligent. Just learning as I go! We have a Breeze 540 that was installed in the spring of 2016. Admittedly, this is the first year I feel like I am trying to actually test once a week and do things right. The problem I seem to be...

Pool Fencing for Child Safety - Looking for input!

Hi all, I have started to dig into the archives for solutions others have come to for keeping their children safe. But in the meantime, I've attached some photos to see if anyone could offer suggestions or thoughts on the best way to enclose our backyard pool with a fence. Our situation is a...

New salt system - CYA/balancing questions

Woody and Griswold, thanks for the input. I will turn the SWG off and go ahead and get the SLAM going. But, if my CYA is minimal, I need to add that first and give it a few days to adjust before starting the SLAM, correct? How do I go about measuring for salt?

New salt system - CYA/balancing questions

I'm trying to get my water balanced and am really confused about my CYA. We had the pool opened last week, new salt system installed (previously used the BBB method), and the pool was slightly green on opening. Installer/pool opening guys put in 20 bags of salt and I believe 6 lb. of shock. Been...

From Bleach to Salt - Am I doing this right?

Hey everyone, After 4 summers of struggling big time with our pool, we saved all winter to have a salt water system installed and yesterday was the big day. We've heard this is THE way to go. We didn't really close properly (I know, mistake) and just covered our pool back in November, so when...

How often do you add bleach?

Thank you all for the good input...I'm definitely still learning and you guys threw lots of good info out there. The water is staying clear but I have wondered if I did need another SLAM...I'll do an OCLT and go from there. Thanks so much!

How often do you add bleach?

After 2 unsuccessful SLAMs this year, my third was finally enough to get our swamp back in gorgeous crystal clear working order (it has never looked so good!), and we are loving our pool this year :) However, I feel like I just cannot keep my FC up and am wondering if my expectations on how...

Recovering the swamp for summer 2015

Great, thanks for the reassurance and references on clear water & getting that leftover powdery stuff. Jwhop, I currently use a Leaf-Gulper for most of my vacuuming needs, and that's been a lifesafer for getting all of the big debris out of the deep end that accumulated over the last two years...

Recovering the swamp for summer 2015

Hey all, checking back in. Still at it, trying to keep the shock level as close to 14/15 (14 is my new shock level with my raised CYA), and haven't let it get below 8.5 since the weekend. Definitely seeing improvement but it is slow, which you all said to expect. Patience is the name of the...

Recovering the swamp for summer 2015

Alrighty, sounds good. And also, no I have not been testing for CC's. Haven't quite understood what that reading says/means... :-/

Recovering the swamp for summer 2015

Awesome feedback, thank you. I think more than anything I need to know that this is a long process and to keep at it. Glad to hear I at least have the concept and am on the right track. I did wonder if I was just not keeping the FC high enough consistently enough. So as crazy as it sounds, that...

Recovering the swamp for summer 2015

I'm a few days into the SLAM process and feeling like things are stalling and would love some input/advice/feedback on what I may be doing wrong. Our pool has stayed open for the past 2 winters and I never did get it revived last year (we're renovating the house it's at, so we live down the...

    Closing The Green Lagoon

I re-tested the pH and got the same thing...very, very bright pink. Just a bit darker than the top of the pH scale. It definitely did not identify with anything close to 7 on the test tube. So, my goals before SLAMing are to... - Lower pH to around 7 using muriatic acid - Lower CYA to around...

    Closing The Green Lagoon

Thanks so much for the detailed info kcindc. I know I will be away this entire weekend...should I wait to start SLAMing until Monday morning? I'll be able to tend to it much better that next week but don't want to start now and lose momentum being gone for about 48 hours. duraleigh - pH was...

    Closing The Green Lagoon

Just took the readings and got... CYA - 60 TA - 50 pH - Off the chart, as expected Chlorine - no reading, also as expected I started the SLAM process earlier this summer but was not successful. We live just down the road from the house but not being there 24/7 makes it challenging. I've read...

    Closing The Green Lagoon

I've been bad this year...we have had a full blown green lagoon for months. I know this can NOT be good for anything in the pool, but I'm finally making time to take care of it. This pool is at a house we are renovating so not having it directly in my backyard has proved a major hurdle in...

Pool rookie needs some help with murky water and not able to maintain chlorine

Awesome, thank you both for laying out some steps to start with. I'll purchase the muriatic acid and CYA tomorrow and get started...will probably be back in 2 or 3 days with more questions! Thanks!

Pool rookie needs some help with murky water and not able to maintain chlorine

Hi guys...go easy on me, we're 3 years into this pool thing and learning as we go. We've learned a little more each year but still have a ways to go. Last year I discovered this forum and finally got into a system and thought I had things figured out. But over the winter, we left our pool...
