Opened to a green liner but water is pretty clear.

Thanks! I think this is the stuff I have purchased at BJs in the past. 12% I wonder?

I will definitely get some. It's just that before I started using the tabs my friend donated to me, I never had these issues, at least not to this degree. Those Clorox tabs are terrible.

So my new kit tells me my FC still sucks and while I can't do The Chlorinator right now, why the heck aren't my tabs doing anything?

Opened to a green liner but water is pretty clear.

Had to be done. Also, I noticed the filter pressure is understandably up after 18 hours of the cloud of doom started. Cloud is dissipating, but I am going to backwash. Can't be healthy for the system. Should I add more shock to it when I go out there? Remember, I can't really tell the levels...

I went ahead and did the deed, brushing the walls and floor into the hopefully superchlorinated water. I guess time will tell!

Ok, so picked up some 12.5% LC today and plopped two of the 128 oz jugs into the pool. After an hour I checked the FC level and it was MAYBE a touch above the color legend for 3. I am starting to lean toward the FC test chemicals (which, again, I am replacing but will take a week to get here)...

Just me. I will check tomorrow, but probably will be another brand and another store!

Opened to a green liner but water is pretty clear.

Not sure what you mean by "add in enough of the chlorine up by 5," but I added a 4th gallon and it did not really budge. I ordered new reagents and will get some different liquid shock. This is a pain in the butt as the reagents will take a week to get here thanks to the Covid-slowed Amazon and...

Opened to a green liner but water is pretty clear.

Seems like they may well be all fresh or all old, but I am not going to waste my time brushing if the resulting cloud of doom is hitting a FC level of 3 or 4 in the water. That's a waste.

Date Code: 20 133 2019 Q2 CYA: Around 30 last night I am guessing the bolded portion should tell me the LC I bought was old. Or is 20 133 the 133rd day of this year, making it May 13, 2020?

Opened to a green liner but water is pretty clear.

How is it possible to have poured four 128 oz. 10% liquid shock jugs into my pool with all other levels being excellent and still not get above 4% TC, tops? It was a 0 before, but according to Pool Math, it should be at 10 anyway. Unless my CL testing chemicals are totally junk, which is a...

Congrats on the new grand baby! I recently became a great uncle for the first time myself.

I think I will go this route as well. Too much BS associated with putting THAT MUCH algae and debris into the water!

    CYA Next to Non-Existent

By the way, my filter pressure spiked after the addition of the highly diluted sock of CYA this morning. Is this normal? And can I backwash it so soon? I don't want to kill my system.

    CYA Next to Non-Existent

Thanks, yes, I totally get the delivery being key with a pool's system. It actually is dissolving nicely in the sock at the moment in front of the return jet. No kids, just a frustrated pool owner trying to get stuff in order before starting to entertain family and friends!

    CYA Next to Non-Existent

Thanks, Richard and DorsalSpine. I read another CYA thread where you had mentioned a knee-high stocking may offer a better dissolving rate and still ensure proper delivery into the pool. Is that still sound advice? :)

    CYA Next to Non-Existent

So, at the risk of sounding impatient, typically how long does it take for CYA granules to dissolve using the sock method? I have about 75% of a 4-lb container in the sock hanging from a telescopic pole right in front of a strong return jet. Thanks.

    CYA Next to Non-Existent

Hi folks. I am a little baffled here as this has NEVER been an issue with my pool before, but my CYA levels are WELL below the minimum levels. I live on Long Island, NY here in the northeast, which had a pretty wet late winter and most of the spring, so perhaps the large amount of water that...

New Hayward DE4820 Leaking at Clamp

I had to purchase a new Hayward DE4820 filter thanks to my old one finally cracking over this past winter. I have been running it for a couple of days and did not notice or see any leakage, but now that I finally got to clean and SLAM my pool, I have noticed a very small bit of leakage at the...

Brush before or after superchlorinating during SLAM?

Thanks, that's great info and I now know how much I should add. I'm trying to do this in a no sunlight environment and that includes brushing the walls. With a setup of a 26,000 gallon pool, a 1 HP pump and 48 sf filter, how long would it take the added chlorine to fully circulate, give or...

Brush before or after superchlorinating during SLAM?

If I can please ask you another question, I'm putting liquid chlorine into a 26000 gallon pool. Typically, what should the initial dose be?

Brush before or after superchlorinating during SLAM?

Hi all, I started the process of opening/cleaning my pool which has a pretty healthy growth of algae on the walls as well as the floor of the more shallow ends of the pool. The chemistry is good and at optimal levels for the liquid chlorine to do its work. The only real confusion I have is...

    Vacuuming and/or brushing green pool?!

Ok, here’s my quandary for you folks. I opened my pool the other day and then my pump went. So, my not so green pool started to get a bit swampy thanks to 86 degree temps, poor chemical balance and no circulation. I’ve been doing this for 16 years, but I this has never happened, so I want to...
