Hard Plumbing of AGP Done (w/ pics and parts list)

Interesting. I've used teflon tape with no problems ever since my pool was installed back in 2005. FWIW, I tried to view the lasco fittings link, and the website is down. I'll keep trying, as I would like to read why they don't recommend teflon tape.

    My 24 Egg Pool

If it's on the pump itself it's commonly called a leaf pot, I do believe. IMHO, I'd probably buy a new pump, especially since that one's 20 years old. If you do opt for a new pump, get a 2-speed. They do help with electricity costs. sent from my Samsung

Be Careful When Working Around Top Rails and Caps

Wolf spiders are actually kinda cool. I found one in my garage once and caught it in a jar. Felt like a kid again... edit: Heard on the news the other night where a huge timber rattler was found and caught here in the neighborhood where I live. The news crew actually showed the street...

Be Careful When Working Around Top Rails and Caps

Just a word of caution - My wife and I replaced the rusted top plates on our AGP this past weekend, which entailed taking the top rails and caps off. When I removed two of the plates, I looked down inside the post and found HUGE black widow spiders. So be careful where you poke your...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

OK, reporting back as I said I would. After using the micromesh cover for a winter, I give it a resounding thumbs up! :goodjob: I took the cover off of the pool this past Saturday, and the only thing on the top of the cover was some dried pollen. The water was a touch hazy, and there was...

The eliminator Pool cover, anyone use them?

I'm using a mesh cover myself this year (first year to try one). The mesh is fine enough that it takes water a little bit of time to migrate through the cover, so I'm hoping that it'll keep most of the dirt out too. Unfortunately it only has grommets spaced around the circumference, so it...

The eliminator Pool cover, anyone use them?

Solid covers aren't made to be pulled tight across the top of the pool. They are not designed to let water drain through the cover material, so the water will pool on top of the cover and have to be pumped off. If you stretch it tight, then the weight of the water that pools on top is going...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

Trust me, it's not fun at all. Well, I take that back..catching the tadpoles this past spring was kind of fun...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

I called Amerimerc today and they confirmed that with the mesh covers, you don't want them lying on the top of the water, but pulled tight so that water will drain through them. I like the look of the pool tree. I think I'm going to start doing something like that as well. Thanks, savdoc2!

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

That's the million dollar question I've got to find an answer for. This isn't a standard winter cover, it's supposedly a micromesh cover that's supposed to let water drain through, much like the center stripe in your cover. I would think it would need to be pulled tight so the water can drain...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

No, you should be fine. I bought this particular cover because it's supposed to be a micromesh cover that lets water through, so come springtime I don't have a mini-swamp on top of my cover. Seriously, last year I rescued about 200 tadpoles from the water on top of my winter cover before I...

OK, here's the first pic, after two days of off and on rain. Methinks I'm gonna like this cover..no standing water..:)

Finally Plumbed my AGP with PVC

Re: Unionization It should be real easy, as I mentioned in my other post. Your skimmer and returns should be threaded, so the existing fittings should come right out. Glue a slip/threaded adapter on one end of the pipe and a ball valve or union on the other, and you should be good to go.

Tim, The pump and pool are both bonded to the grounding rod.

Finally Plumbed my AGP with PVC

Once again I apologize for not checking back in a more timely manner. a slip/threaded union actually refers to the type of connection on each end of the fitting. In this case, the slip fit is on the end the pipe goes into (and it has to be glued, of course), and the threaded end is the union...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

They do make what's called a leaf net that's used in conjunction with a solid cover, but they also make a mesh cover that allows water to drain through to the pool below. The mesh is much finer than the mesh of a leaf net. Here's a link to the one I just bought ...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

Montreal, huh? This is the second time he's left Carolina, correct? Of all the players we let go, I'll miss Steve Sullivan the most. Sully had a real passion for the game, and played like he was ten feet tall, not backing down from anyone. Great pics! Said 13 year old is the spitting...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

OK, I think I'm going to go with a micromesh and see how well it does. Worst case, I use it for a couple of years and go back to a solid cover, seeing how they usually only last a couple of years anyway. Thanks for all that replied!

13 yr old finds more efficient arrangement for solar panels

Re: 13 yr old finds more efficient arrangement for solar pan LOL! "Wow, it came up east again today....does it always do that??" I'm with you though...very, very impressive for a 13 year old. Heck, that would be impressive for collegiate level, I would think.

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

How wide was the mesh?? I'm looking at one that's supposedly a micromesh, and I wonder if it would do a better job of keeping the junk out of the pool. My pool's an above grounder with a gated deck entry, so I'm not real concerned about something falling in the pool (dog or kid) during the winter.

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

Well dang...I might rethink a mesh one then. I'd much rather have to siphon water off the cover as have a green pool when I pulled the cover off in the spring. BTW, I was over in your neck of the woods a few weeks back. A nice little ten hour jaunt from Nashville. Drove by the RBC center a...

Anyone Using a Mesh Winter Cover?

I'm in need of a new winter cover, and was reminded by the DW that winter's just a few months away.. Where did the summer go?? Anyway, I've been looking at the micromesh winter covers that are supposed to allow water to drain through, but keep leaves and debris out. Anyone using one...
