What Are Some Good Pumps These Days

I tried to swap out the motor on my 16 year old Pentair Ultra-Flow pump but two of the bolts coming out of the seal plate which mount the motor are corroded onto the motor flange. Tried half a can of PB Blaster with not luck (still entertaining suggestions on how to get the old motor off). So...

    Need Help With Multi-Port Valve

Thanks proavia and JamesW. Now that I actually took the time to take your advice the valve is quiet and has no leak. The only thing that was obviously broken was the handle (see below). Not sure if it was like that or it happened during disassembly. Hopefully this won't cause a problem. Now to...

    Need Help With Multi-Port Valve

I see the o-ring in the exploded view a few replies above but not in mine. The stem on mine seems to go through a bushing like element that is located at the hole in the lid. Could the o-ring be between the bushing and the washer on the outside of the lid?

    Need Help With Multi-Port Valve

No go; still have the same drip leak. However, the "crackling" sound that seemed to be continuous before now is more intermittent. The spring looked fine but that's not saying much. Any other ideas? This is what it looks like:

    Need Help With Multi-Port Valve

I finally got around to opening up the valve. The spider gasket looks as good as it did when installed last season. My valve doesn't appear to have any 0-rings in it except to seal the cover. One end of the spring sits directly on the diverter the other on a washer at the valve cover. There was...

    Need Help With Multi-Port Valve

When my pump is off my multi-port valve makes noise and the pump basket loses water over time. Last year I replaced the spider gasket because it was leaking a lot of water out the backwash port. Now it is still leaking (a drip at a time) enough to cause my pump basket to lose water. When I plug...

    Suction side leak Question

At one point I had quite a lot of bubbles in my pump basket. After new lid and drain plug o-rings there usually are only a few bubbles here and there. So, not so sure the problem is remedied. However, when running my Polaris 360 pressure side cleaner the bubbles are 100% gone. Any idea why...

CYA Not Increasing as it Should

Who knows? Full sun today. The first try = 20ppm, second try = 35ppm, third try = 20ppm. I have no idea whether my eyes (brain) were playing tricks on me or what but the second try results did actually occur.

CYA Not Increasing as it Should

No backwashing of any type. I have been testing with my back to indoor light though. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny. So, I'll do another test with my back to the sun. Hopefully, this is all user error.

CYA Not Increasing as it Should

All of the CYA was added via a sock in the skimmer.

CYA Not Increasing as it Should

When I opened my pool this year the CYA was undetectable with my K-2006. This was not surprising since I keep it low and the pool level was dropped substantially over the winter. So, I added 24 oz of CYA I had left over from last year. After a week there was no change in the reading. I’ve since...

Problem With Pump When Using Timer

We inherited our pool ten years ago. The equipment pad is elevated on an incline 15 ft. from the pool. The first year trying to use the timer the pump didn’t want to prime on its own. So, I’ve always just ran it 24/7. This year I decided to become more of a conservationist and use the timer for...

Still Leaking After New Spider Gasket Install

Thanks, I like your thinking. In fact, while staring at my MPV I noticed drips from my filter drain plug. This leak comes and goes and my thoughts are just let it leak.

Still Leaking After New Spider Gasket Install

The night before I changed my spider valve my pool lost about six inches of water out the waste line in twelve hours. Now it still trickles a bit to the tune of about a quart in twelve hours. Do you think the spring is week? Any Ideas would be helpful.

How Does This Spider Valve Look

I started a thread trying to sort out my leak. I've narrowed it down to the spider valve. So, I'm starting this thread to see if the experts think my gasket looks worn enough for replacement. It's a crappy picture so the tiny pieces of leaf at 11 o'clock and 3 o'clock look like gasket damage but...

    Where's The Leak?

Yep; I'm thinking (hoping) it might just be the spider gasket in the multi-port valve. In the recent past while in the waste setting I've seen "dirt" going back into the pool via the returns. I'm refilling the pool now and will confirm if the water is in fact going out the waste hose while the...

    Where's The Leak?

Yesterday evening I let out some water using the waist setting since it was pouring down rain. This morning the level looked low compared to how much rain we got. So, I replenished some not thinking much about it. Just now I looked out and the level was a good 5-6" less than 12 hours ago and...

    FC Use During the Day

My CYA has been low and I have added 30 oz of conditioner so far. The last was just a couple of days ago. So, that application probably isn't reading yet. Yesterday morning my FC was 0. I added enough bleach to bring it to 4. At 1 pm the FC was 0 again. I elevated the FC 8.5 a dusk. Did an...

    Natural Gas Regulator Vent Issue

Just in case your vent pipe gets clogged by varmint activity over the winter you can remove it. I'ts held in place with a simple reusable compression fitting. A third of the pipe on my regulator was filled with debris. Once debris was removed Old Bessei (2001 Mini Max Plus 400) fired right up...

    Natural Gas Regulator Vent Issue

This is a small regulator dedicated to the heater. It is located right next to the heater and has a maybe 3/8" U-shaped metal vent pipe threaded on it. Not sure if there is a seal, yellow teflon tape or what. It is attached using a hex fitting of some sort. So, it would be easy to remove and...

    Natural Gas Regulator Vent Issue

I think there might be some serious bug or the like stuff jammed into my gas regulator vent pipe. Doing my usual vacuuming and tapping didn't get everything. So, I tried getting at it with some thin wire. It seems I can feel a log jam of something in there. Is it safe to remove the vent for...

Need Help Diagnosing Dirty Water Coming Back Into the Pool

The spider gasket seems more likely the problem. I didn't think water should be coming back in during the process of getting rid of water. It makes sense that something let go seeing that it started to happen after a few minutes of running in the waist setting .

Need Help Diagnosing Dirty Water Coming Back Into the Pool

Thanks. Just to add clarity, this was happening while in the waste setting. In other words, while water was being pumped out of the pool dirty water was coming out of the jets into the pool. If what you are saying could happen from previous use of the waste setting and not rinsing afterwards...
