Re: HELP: Fiberglass stairs/buddy seat yellowing after shock outta curiosity, any reason why only the fiberglass is discolored slightly, whereas the vinyl liner is clean and clear? Also, any particular brand/size of vit c tablet to use? thx again

HELP: Fiberglass stairs/buddy seat yellowing after shocking

Re: HELP: Fiberglass stairs/buddy seat yellowing after shock I don't know if I have metals in the water or not. How should I check? I used to have a pool frog, and it had a mineral reservior, but not sure what minerals were in that. I had been running that when the pool was initially opened...

Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in range

Re: Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in ran When reading the shock "repeat steps", is it correct that UNTIL i have a CC reading of .5 or less I need to continue shocking and should perform the overnight test until that point? Just asking because I've been at this all weekend...

HELP: Fiberglass stairs/buddy seat yellowing after shocking

I'm in the middle of shocking my pool for the first time. Prior to this (2 years), the stairs and buddy seat were white - except for some graying at/above the water line. I am pretty sure the recommendation when adding bleach was to slowly pour it in front of the return jets - so it would get...

Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in range

Re: Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in ran Shock process is going well, but I do have a quick question when testing FC. I'm using Dave's TF-100, but do not have the speedstir. So, as I'm testing the FC, adding 1 drop at a time and swirling - waiting for it to turn clear, how...

Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in range

Re: Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in ran Thanks for the feedback. No - I AM going to complete the process. I just didn't know what the ramifications were if it's not truly completed. As for it being "convenient", it's a matter of being physically around to test as often...

Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in range

Re: Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in ran just to clarify - your statement about "shock level is the minimum your FC should be..." - that's only during the SHOCK process, right? Once the process is complete, then I should just use the daily test kit - testing FC once a week...

Shock process interrupted by weekend trip, levels in range

This is my first season as a DIY pool guy. I got a lot of great help on the introduction forum with getting started with the shock process - THANK YOU! I started the shock process last thursday: dissolving 4lbs of CYA in a sock to reach a CYA of 30, then started shocking friday morning - with...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye yes, that's exactly what happened. I added the initial drops - 1 by 1 - until it went clear. Then, after it sat for maybe 10 - 15 seconds, it started to turn slightly pink again before I started to test for CC. I thought it might...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye 0700: put 290oz 8.25% (for FC 0 -> 12) 1500: FC 7, CC 8: put 121oz (for FC 7 -> 12) is it normal for CC to ramp up like this when shocking? also, when testing FC - not all the powder dissolved, and just when I thought it was clear...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye Hanging a pair of tights from the pool pole dangling in front of the return jet definitely catches the eye :o Got 4 lbs of CYA dissolving over night and will start the SHOCK treatment tomorrow morning. Which brings up a new...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye When you say you "hang it in front of the return jet", is it right against the jet, or somehow suspended out a few inches? Also, it seems to me that I need to wait until the stabilizer is fully dissolved before I begin...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye Thanks for the clarification. I believe the pool store sold me stabilizer at some point in the past 2 years. Is this commonly sold in granular form? If so, I believe their instructions said to simply add it into the skimmer slowly...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye TF-100 just arrived and inventory checked out - all items are there. Since this will be my first test and the pool has just been opened, I have a few questions: 1) what tests should be performed? 2) should the CYA test be performed...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye k - i added 3x24 oz 8.25% Clorox regular bleach last night to the deep-end inlet port - taking 1 min per 24ox. This morning, I did a check using some 5-point test strips I had from last year. The FC level on the strip was between 0...

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye So, if I'm picking this up, I can plug my 16K into the Pool Calculator and it should tell me how much 6% bleach to mix in, correct? I just did it and for 16,000 gals, with a starting FC = 0, target FC = 3, it gave me 100 oz of 6% bleach.

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye Thanks Dave. I definitely do NOT intend to re-test for phosphates. I just want to avoid getting any algae going - since there is no chlorine at all right now and the TF-100 probably won't be here until wed. Is it ok to let it go...

Where does a Pool Frog 5150 fit into the puzzle?

After taking a look tonight, the water is pretty clear now, but not sharp/sparkling - still a bit of cloudiness, but I can now see the holes in the bottom drain fairly clearly. Doing a quick test with my 5-part strips from last year, the FC and TC are pretty much 0 - as I would expect after the...

Where does a Pool Frog 5150 fit into the puzzle?

In response to linen, it's not really an appt - just the earliest they said to come back in - so.........no need to go back in :-) With regard to the pool - i'll check when I get home in about an hour and post back.

Re: grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r ye As I commented on another post, my TF-100 should be here wed! That timing actually works out well because the pool store just told me I should wait 96 hours for the whole phosphate removal process to work its course. Then, they'll...

WOW - I am thoroughly impressed by the responses I have gotten in just a couple hours of being a member! I have already ordered my TF-100, so hopefully it'll be here by wed. Turns out, wed was the earliest the pool place said to come back in to have my phosphates [re]-tested. Only after that...

Where does a Pool Frog 5150 fit into the puzzle?

I hope this is the best place for this question. I am starting the transition to DIY pool guy! That said, I already have a Pool Frog 5150 inline unit that has an outer containing mineral reservoir that holds a chlorine bac-pac. Am I correct in assuming this would be the 1st B in the BBB...

grew up with pools, now IG pool owner (starting my 3r years)

Hi All! My name is Bob, and I am a fairly new in-ground vinyl pool owner (starting my 3rd year). I grew up with an inground pool, so I was used to doing the basic chlorine + ph test with the red/yellow drops. Times and equipment have definitely changed a bit since then. While this is my...
