    Almost there....I think!

The chlorine is a little high but nothing to really worry about, I'd be more worried about the PH, I try to target 7.6. I don't know about your salt cell but mine prefers under 3300, I try to keep it at 3000-3100. 86oz of washing soda or 171oz of Borax will get your PH up to the correct range.

    Open date on East Coast?

Opened the pool Sunday, removed the cover, water was clear with a brown bottom. Have SLAM'd since and it is coming along nicely. No combined chlorine, but the CYA is 0 so I'm losing quite a bit during the day. Today the above mentioned Newfoundland realized the pool was open and made a mad dash...

Ready to go! (well, once it warms up :))

I tried to educate a couple in our bible study group. Wife listened intently and told me to talk to her husband about it, he wanted nothing to do with my advice, wanted to stick with the pool store advice, after all, they do that for a living...

    Open date on East Coast?

The wife and I started this conversation this past weekend. I would love to open the pool early and get ahead of the algae bloom however we have a 2 year old Newfoundland that loves to swim and not much way to keep her out of it. I really need to get a safety fence put around it lol. To say...

    SWG Pool Saltiness

Normally pool salt levels are between about 2,800 and 3,600 PPM, sea water is 35,000 ppm, there is a huge difference regardless of the subjective taste test lol. Some people can detect the salt at normal salt pool levels and some can't, I can but it is no where near ocean saltiness.

    Barracuda G3 Pool Cleaner

You need to use the tool that comes with it to adjust the suction, adjust the suction on the host using this tool until the indicator is at #2. This is the optimal suction for the cleaner. We have a single speed Hayward super pump with valves on the main drain and each of our two skimmers. I...

    Green pool

Keep going, it can take a while. You are on the right path however, if you can keep up the SLAM you will get it clear.

    looks like a leak

Well the drop in water has definitely stopped before going below the skimmer intake and there is still water in the skimmers so I think I'm lucky enough for it not to be in the pluming. I'll inspect the liner around the pool especially at the skimmer intakes and the inside of the skimmers for...

    looks like a leak

Ok, I started getting the pool ready a few weeks ago and the water quickly went from green to a beautiful blue. However we have a problem, we are losing water. The wife suggested letting it leak down to see where it stops. It seems to have stopped near the bottom of the opening to the skimmers...

Pressure much higher this year than last.

Just got back from the pool store, new gauge was $7.95. Didn't realize TFTTestkits sold one or I would have gotten that one. Oh well, upgrade for next year.

Pressure much higher this year than last.

Last year my clean filter pressure was around 14psi and I would normally backwash when it hit 17 or so. I've started opening the pool (last weekend) and I've noticed the filter pressure is 20psi. I did notice that the off pressure wasn't 0psi so I'm thinking it might be an issue with the gauge...

Going out of town for a few days

Going out of town for a few days

I don't think I can turn the heat off without turning off the breaker that supplies power to the spa. It's only 4 days that we will be gone.

Going out of town for a few days

I'm going to the beach next week and was wondering about my hot tub. I currently use the BBB method on it and wondered if I brought it up to shock level (10ppm) before we left on Tuesday evening would it be ok until we returned on Saturday. It's a 415 Gallon and it will have the cover on it.

Out of the lagoon and into the doghouse

When the pool turns green she might be convinced, or ear/UTI infections... Hoping that doesn't happen however.

Chlorine floatie keeps getting stuck near ladder!

This site doesn't really recommend using pucks, floaties or granular chlorine for reasons explained in the pool school section of the website. I would suggest you read through pool school.

    New fill slightly cloudy spa

I got a 6oz tub of ahh-some after reading about it on here to use in both our jetted tub and hot tub that are in the house we just purchased. I did the tub over the weekend and you are right, it is pretty gross to think about all that stuff in the bath water. I will be doing the hot tub when I...

    Buying home - includes swamp

As are we, congratulations, I was lucky enough to accidentally meet the woman selling the house during our pest inspection. She had the time wrong. She told me she had no idea how to take care of the pool and that her ex-husband always did it but when she asked him for help he said no and hung...

On the new pool I've noticed there is no timer for the pump, it is either on or off. There should be a timer for the system shouldn't there?

    New year, new pool

The wife and I are purchasing a new house that has an in ground 25,000gallon L shaped pool. Looking forward to moving from the above ground to the in ground. The in ground is having some issues and I'm helping the home owner with it, she doesn't know how to take care of the pool and her...

    Wasn't expecting a pool?!

I read through the entire thread, beautiful pool and even more so now. I do have a question, did you ever find and fix the leak? Also note that the bubbles you had could be caused by the SWG.

    Pool being filled Monday

Actually not bad advice from what I've learned on here, do go with a good test kit and do not rely on strips. Honestly with the help of this forum I didn't have to shock my new pool last year at all, the SWG did its job and the pool was amazingly maintenance free. Pool school gave me the tools I...

I'm new here but I've been reading everything I can

I wanted to thank everyone that helped me last year with this project. I didn't post more because after your wonderful advise and site I had no issues with the pool at all. We had an amazing season swimming in the pool with very little needing to be done other than replacing some chemicals due...

I'm new here but I've been reading everything I can

Ok, gave it about 2 weeks to get used to the chemistry of the pool. PH has been hanging around 7.2. I added borates to the pool last night, 1/2 gallon of muriatic acid then 2 boxes of Borax, then the other half of the gallon and 2 more boxes of Borax. This morning the PH is 6.8, so I added 2...
