Bubbles, Filter Drains Down - normal?

I think there are two possible places to put a gauge. On the valve, and on the top. The valve appears to be a small NPT fitting. The top seems to be something sealed with an O-ring. Is one preferred over another?

    Pool plumbing- 90 degrees angles

When I looked for long radius sweep elbows all that I found were DW fittings rated for something like 5 PSI. Are long radius sweeps common for pressure applications?

Bubbles, Filter Drains Down - normal?

I could hear the air being pulled in. Found a wet plug on the filter valve (I guess a plug for a pressure gauge?) and a water "bubble" on the PVC pipe coming out of the pump. Addressing these seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you for the quick reply and excellent debugging suggestions.

Bubbles, Filter Drains Down - normal?

When my pump shuts off I get lots of bubbles in the system. It seems as if the filter is draining out into the pool. If I leave the pump running non-stop for a few days, I have zero bubbles in the pump housing. There are no check valves in the system that I can see. Should the filter hold...

Suction side leak that I can't find

Is that success? Something you wrapped in plastic must be the problem. Now you just need to narrow it down if you wrapped multiple things right?

Adding CYA vi sock method - SWG Generator off for how long?

I found this excellent description about using the sock method: As a follow up, specific for SWG pools, should the SWG generator be off for 24 hours if this method is used? More generally, is there a write-up that discusses best practices for adding chemicals in an SWG pool?

    Softener vs pool salt

Thanks for the quick replies. I got 5 bags in and the brushing isn't bad at all. I poured them around the entire pool. I think I'm just going to dump the next 5 right into the deep end - any reason to not do that?

    Softener vs pool salt

What is the difference between softener salt and pool salt. From what I can tell the water softener is bigger crystals - does that mean it's harder to dissolve? I have to put ~10 bags in. $90 for pool salt vs $70 for softener salt. If the pool salt will save me a few hours of brushing to get...

Can an older sand filter be laid on it's side?

I found the manual and it showed it as a removable part, so I removed it. It was loud - I thought it might shatter, but it came out whole. Now, to fix - the manual has part number : S200EB, but online I seen to find SX200EB more easily. Is there a place to cross reference Hayward numbers?

Can an older sand filter be laid on it's side?

I tried to cut a view port into the base, but I picked a bad spot so I couldn't see anything. I pulled it apart, put it up on blocks, filled it with water and found the leak from the drain pipe. I can't tell for sure if it's coming from the pipe or where it's attached to the filter. Does this...

Can an older sand filter be laid on it's side?

I have a Hayward sand filter that's leaking from the bottom. It's more than 10 years old. I can't see what's going on without turning it on it's side. The filter is egg shaped with ports on the side and removable top. What is the best way to inspect the exterior bottom of the filter?

    Floaters under diving board

That makes sense, just "top off" with bleach.

    Single Serving Chlorine Containers

Just reporting back. The single serving approach is working well. We have about 10 premixed containers that raise the chlorine level by 1ppm (vs the 0.5 I was originally targeting). It's nice to be able to read the chlorine level in the morning, toss in the right number of containers to get us...

    Floaters under diving board

We have a new liner (so don't want to mess it up...) and want to leave a floater with 6 tabs in the pool for a week. We've never used a floater before - We used to put pucks in the skimmer. Pump will be on for 8 hours per day and a 2 hour run in the middle of the "off" time. CYA is about 30...

    Single Serving Chlorine Containers

I'll try this. Right now I only have 2 bottles. I need a bigger collection before I can set one aside for testing. With so few bottles I'll be mixing a new batch every day or two. I was considering this. Get some spray paint that's for plastic. For now, I have them "labeled" with a sharpie -...

    Single Serving Chlorine Containers

I was thinking about recycling used bleach containers into "single serving" containers. The idea is to figure out how much bleach is needed for a 0.5 PPM raise and then add that to a bleach jug and top off with water (well water first and then bleach). If my math is right (22K Gallons with...
